2014 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X FQ-440 MR

Mitsubishi hasn’t had a major piece of the European market in years, but the Japanese brand is still churning out models there. It’s recent one, though, just may be what the company needs to get Europeans’ attention. Just for the UK market, Mitsubishi is unveiling the Lancer Evolution X FQ-440 MR Special Edition in time to celebrate the company’s 40th anniversary in the UK.

Even if Mitsubishi has struggled to gain some traction in the business, the one model that has been its gleaming beacon of hope has been the Lancer Evolution X . So its no surprise that when it came time to celebrate something special, Mitsubishi tapped its pride and joy to do so with.

The Lancer Evolution X FQ-440 MR Special Edition comes with a modest amount of cosmetic changes. Outside, bi-xenon headlights, front fog lamps, new wiper blades, and a set of 18-inch, forged BBS alloy wheels are the only thing you’re getting.

Inside, there’s a few more new additions, none fancier than the Recaro-branded leather bucket seats and the Rockford Fosgate premium audio system with an SD card-based music server. That should make it a sweet deal for audiophiles across the pond.

The biggest upgrades, though, come under the hood, which has more than enough to justify why the car has been priced at a pretty steep £50,000, which is about $82,900.

The biggest upgrade for this special-edition Evo X is the massive performance upgrade Mitsubishi put into the car. Whereas its stock 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine is capable of producing 291 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque, Mitsubishi added an HKS turbo pack, a new Janspeed exhaust system with a high-flow sports catalytic convertor, and a bespoke ECU remap to increase the output to a staggering 440 horsepower at 6,800 rpm and 412 pound-feet of torque at 3,100 rpm.

Other technical upgrades include a new six-speed twin clutch Sports Shift Transmission (SST), a Janspeed tubular manifold, a motorsport specification high-flow fuel injectors, Eibach coil springs, and an Alcon braking system.
