This fall's second Mitsubishi->ke58 lifestyle concept car looks good enough to cause a double take. The 2014 Outlander H360 Winter Edition adds rich white paint and 20-inch wheels outside, plus a gorgeous quilted leather and suede cabin, to create a very cozy and fashionable way to hit the slopes.

In partnership with lifestyle brand H360 and professional snowboarder Bryan "Guch" Iguchi, Mitsubishi ->ke58 has transformed their popular seven-seat crossover into the ultimate winter shuttle. The styling outside is refined and classy, with those giant wheels really transforming the regular Outlander's lines into something much sleeker and sportier than the standard model.

The beauty of these H360 makeovers is that they can inspire other Mitsubishi ->ke58 owners to personalize their own cars, and draw people into the brands by reinforcing their outdoor credentials.

Looking like a mix between a Range Rover Evoque and an Audi RS4 Avant, the Outlander H360 Winter Edition is powered by a smooth V-6 engine with S-AWC traction and a very quick sprint pace versus some four-cylinder crossover competitors.

More importantly, the H360 Winter Edition will look at home in Beaver Creek Ski Resort's valet parking line. A host of interior and exterior additions make up this concept car, which will do the rounds at major auto shows this year.

These H360 concepts are just design exercises, and are not for sale themselves. Even so, they show the scope of accessories and versatility of one of the only value-priced crossovers to offer a third row of seats.

Exterior

The exterior capitalizes on a relatively new trend in the premium car business: white paint. For decades, white paint was the cheapest available and therefore not a quick seller on premium cars.

Boredom with silver, and hot interiors from black cars is causing a big shift toward metallic whites. A snow white Range Rover, for example, can be worth up to $10,000 more than a tan or grey car, and will generally sell in just a few days once arriving at a dealer.

This white is a BASF shade called Casablanca Weiss, and it has a lovely and almost porcelain-like sheen that looks deep and very, very expensive. We could be wrong, but this looks like the same paint as on the SSC Tuatara hypercar->ke177.

2013 Mitsubishi Outlander H360 Winter Edition - Exterior Features:

- BASF Casablanca Weiss

- Niche Targa Brushed silver 20-inch wheels

- Thule roof rack

- Falken tires

- Volcom and K2 snowboards for him and her, plus ski apparel, boots and goggles

- StopTech front big brake kit

Interior

The interior of the H360 Winter Edition is much calmer and easier on the eyes than the bright metallic orange accents throughout the Outlander Sport Summer Edition. Classy white, grey and black leather and suede are used throughout, including a full dash and headliner wrap, complete seats and trim overhauls, and even matching quilted leather for the Recaro child booster seats in the second row.

The Outlander's classy finishes typically do not need such a revamp, but the seats alone are quite nice looking, very much like a Range Rover or Bentley. In back, one of the third-row seats is traded for a parcel rack for snowboard boots and the matching goggles and gloves in this special custom.

A highlight is a color-matched Keurig K-cup coffee maker, for a quick but of warmth on cold and dark ski mornings.

Drivetrain, Suspension and Brakes

The H360 Outlander Winter Edition is built off of the top-line GT S-AWC model, which is quite a hidden gem for car enthusiasts who live in the real world: with budget constraints and family needs.

Powered by a 3.0-liter V-6 through a torque-converter six-speed automatic, the Outlander GT can hit 60 mph in 7.9 seconds as a stock model, thanks to its 224 horsepower and 215 pound-feet of torque.

Even so, the improvements from H360 and the V-6 trim level are well worth it, because mountain driving is hard on underpowered cars even on sunny summer days. On winter blizzard days, having extra power and traction available is a real safety feature.

The larger wheels help inspire confidence with extra road holding strength, and they barely harm the Mitsubishi crossover's highway smoothness.

Pricing and Availability

The H360 custom Mitsubishi Outlander Winter Edition is just a concept, but the 2014 Outlander has a number of tech and style upgrades. Full review coming soon.

Conclusion

The Outlander is almost as efficient and maneuverable in tight areas as the smaller Outlander Sport, but fuel economy of this top powertrain is not as good as the lower-range CVT automatics and front-drive. Both of the Outlander size options have a really tight turning radius and can fit 20-inch wheels, which is even more impressive for this V-6 model.

Many front-drive V-6 compact cars become basically unable to do tight U-turns, adding almost 6 feet to the four-cylinder versions' turning circle. Well done, Mitsubishi->ke58!

This concept does not even wear a body kit or other style changes, just this super-premium paint and the Niche Targa 20-inch wheel/tire upgrade. Something about that paint and the new stance on 20-inch rims really brings the bumper and profile lines of the Outlander to life.

Falken all-season rubber grips the roads, while gold StopTech big brake kit calipers are very visible up front. Helpful when coming down the mountain, where the Audi Avant crowd never hits the brakes in favor of engine braking.

No brake fade possible in this Outlander H360 Winter Edition. Paddle shifters for the S-AWC and six-speed box give you ultimate control - both for staying safe with the family or hanging the tail out in the snow with your buddies.
