Mitsubishi Pajero Sport

Mitsubishi will unveil at the Moscow Motor Show the new Pajero Sport SUV that will go on sale starting this fall in selected regions such as Russia, the ASEAN area, the Middle East, Latin America and Oceania.

Pajero Sport will be powered by a choice of three engines which all deliver outstanding motive performance and fuel economy: 2.5-liter and 3.2-liter common rail direct injection diesel units and a 3.5-liter V6 gasoline unit.

The new Pajero Sport features dynamic and sporty exterior lines, complemented by a stylish and vast interior space that engenders a sense of comfort, purpose and safety. This cabin, available in either a 2-row (5-passenger) or 3-row (7-passenger) seating configuration is also very practical with water-repellent seats and a waterproof luggage compartment floor, ideal for leisure use.

Mitsubishi Will Unveil Pajero Sport at Moscow Motor Show

Mitsubishi Will Unveil Pajero Sport at Moscow Motor Show

Mitsubishi is debuting its third SUV in Russia at the Moscow Motor Show. The Pajero Sport is a similar type of vehicle to the Montero Sport sold in the U.S. But this is not the replacement for the Montero Sport, nor will it be coming to our shores. Instead the Pajero Sport will be sold under various names only to Russia, Latin America, Southeast Asia, Middle East and Australia.

The new SUV will be available in five and seven passenger forms and offer a four-wheel drive version. Power will come from a choice of three engines: 2.5-liter and 3.2-liter common rail direct injection diesel units and a 3.5-liter V6 gasoline unit. But in a very communist-like decision, Mitsubishi is not giving the Russians a decision at all. The country will only be receiving a model with the 3.2-liter diesel engine and two-row, five-passenger capacity seating arrangement.

The Pajero Sport’s debut in Moscow is proof of Russia becoming an increasingly important market for Mitsubishi. They sold 100,000 cars in Russia last year, and Mitsubishi is hoping that the Pajero Sport can help boost sales past 140,000 this year.

2009 Mitsubishi Racing Lancer

Mitsubishi Racing Lancer

Mitsubishi unveiled today a new competition car, the Racing Lancer, whose mission will be to target victory on next year’s Dakar which breaks new ground in 2009 with a switch from Africa to South America.

The Racing Lancer is a Super Production Cross-Country Rally car, which has been developed in compliance with the FIA’s Group T1 regulations (modified cross-country rally cars). It also complies with the new rules due to come into force in 2010.

The car will be powered by the 3.0-liter V6 turbocharged diesel engine which the company is currently developing on qualifying rounds of the 2008 Dakar Series and the 2008 FIA Cross-Country Rally World Cup. The carbon-fibre bodywork of the MRX09 is redolent of the Lancer Sportback, a new sporty hatchback due to be released on the European market this summer. The new car will be equipped with the same 4WD system, drive train, suspension and brakes following their modification in accordance with the new technical regulations and as a function of the characteristics of the diesel turbo powerplant.

Mitsubishi Sportback-2009 Launch

Mitsubishi

Although Mitsubishi U.S’s sales have been declining consistently due to lack of model line-up and sufficient marketing, the Japanese auto-maker seems to have taken positive response from it’s fuel-efficient and hot selling Lancer variants. Mitsubishi, infamous for it’s rally heritage than anything else, plans a hatchback version of it’s Lancer series. It seems they have the new Impreza bang on target.

Based on the EVO X, the Lancer sportback is primarily a hatch version of the big Mitsu. Although the boot has been chopped off, the designers have thankfully left the C-pillar geometry alone to keep the overall shut lines intact, thus keeping the rear quarter eye-pleasing, yet fresh.

The rear seems to have borrowed cues from the the Lexus RH 400 hybrid, with the tail lights & quarter panel bearing striking resemblances to the Toyota. Needless to say, that’s not necessarily a bad thing, since most of the newer designs have more less become a mixture of sorts. The new Accord, for example. The side profile reminisces of the erstwhile 5-series. But that doesn’t make the Honda sloppy now, does it.

Mitsubishi

Although no official powertrain figures are available yet, there are pieces doing rounds that the Lancer Sportback will be offered in 3 engine variants; a 1.8 litre powerplant with 141 galloping horses, a fuel-efficient 2.0 litre oil-burner (read-diesel) pumping out 138+ horses (and enough torque to knock your socks off), and finally, the "sport" powertrain, with the EVO X’s gear. Hopefully, that will take the mighty Subaru head-on.

Here’s to Mitsubishi, the legend that re-wrote many a rulebook with it’s WRC chomping dynamics, heart-throbbing performance and legendary Japanese reliability...

Mitsubishi Concept cX will become the new baby Outlander

2008 Mitsubishi Galant Fortis Ralliart

Mitsubishi Galant Fortis Ralliart

Mitsubishi added today a new version to the Galiart line-up: the Galant Fortis Ralliart, a premium sporty sedan that will go on sale at affiliated dealership throughout Japan today.

It is powered by an intercooler-turbocharged 4B11-type 2.0-liter 16-valve DOHC MIVEC high-performance engine that delivers 177 kW (240 PS) / 6000 rpm and 343 Nm (35.0 kg-m) / 3000 rpm.

The car features a unique front bumper designed to reduce air resistance. Increasing the size of the “jet-fighter” grille, an element of the MMC sedan design identity, both improves engine cooling and with the chrome treatment of its perimeter enhances the premium look to the car. The bottom edge of the bumper is designed as an air dam for improved handling and vehicle stability at higher speeds.

When the Evo Is Too Expensive…

Mitsubishi launched the new Lancer Ralliart in Japan today. The sedan, known as the Galant Fortis Ralliart in Japan, offers a compromise between the everyday Lancer and the rally-like Evolution X. In the past, Ralliart editions have been a slightly upgraded Lancer, but the new version is built more like a de-tuned Evo.

From the Evo’s parts bin include the 2.0-liter, 16-valve four-cylinder turbocharged engine, which will make 240 horsepower (80 less than the Evo.) The dual-clutch automated manual transmission is also lifted from the Evo, but this will be geared for better fuel economy and everyday use. To keep the rubber on the road, the Ralliart gets the four-wheel drive system from the Evo as well.

So everyone knows you’re driving more than just a Lancer, Mitsubishi gives the Ralliart distinctive exterior features, including a more aerodynamic bumper and an aluminum hood with turbocharger intakes. The package also adds a few slightly prestigious Ralliart badges to the interior and exterior.

Prices in Japan start at 2,982,000 yen (about $27,700), and a North American version should be on sale by next year.
