Real Racing 3

Real Racing was officially unveiled in 2009 and 2013 brings the game’s third installment. Real Racing 3 is produced by Electronic Arts and it is offered for the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and most Android devices at no charge.

The game offers a total of 46 licensed vehicles covering three classes, a 22-car grid across real world tracks, eight varied event types and over 900 events. The game is also offered with a neat feature called Time Shifted Multiplayer (TSM) - a multiplayer mode that allows players to race against their friends, even if they have different devices or if they’re offline.

The game also offers hours of gameplay and there is no need for you to pay in order to progress. However, in order to speed up car servicing and upgrade wait times you will need to earn and spend virtual currency. You can earn currency through racing events, leveling-up, obtaining trophies and competing with friends, or you can simply buy it.

The game can be downloaded for free at http://www.firemonkeys.com.au/downloadR3.

Video: Need For Speed: The Run trailer for the iPhone and the iPad

The good thing about technology these days, as far as video game developers are concerned, is the wide array of platforms they can come on. No longer are we limited to video game consoles now that smartphones and tablets have become a popular tool for the vast majority of the population.

EA Games, the developer of Need For Speed: The Run, is taking advantage of this wider access to video games with the release of the trailer for the game on the iPad and the iPhone.

You read that right, folks. We now have iPad and iPhone trailers.

Since the game is already out for the PS3 and Xbox platforms, the next step is to bring all the action to the iPad and iPhone. That’s what the trailer is for. And even if it doesn’t come with the same cutting edge graphics as that of the console versions, it still something that should be a good download.

Besides, the iPad and the iPhone have one thing going for them that the PS3 and the Xbox don’t: you can take those two anywhere you go, and in doing so, play NFS: The Run anytime and anywhere.

Video: Michael Bay directs new Need For Speed: The Run trailer

Michael Bay’s addiction for high-octane action and mindless explosions has earned him a reputation as one of Hollywood’s most fascinating directors. For his latest project, Bay is switching genres and stepping into the world of video games, directing the official trailer for Need For Speed: The Run.

While this project was lacking in real-life actors, Bay didn’t seem to have any problems putting his imprint on the trailer. There are cars flying everywhere, helicopters shooting at runaway vehicles, and of course, lots and lots of explosions.

At the end of the day, Bay seems to have done a good job in translating his Hollywood-style directing by turning the trailer into a pulse-pounding, action-packed, two-and-a-half-minute video for the latest installment in the highly-popular Need For Speed franchise.

As a reminder, the game is set to come out November 15, 2011, so if you’re still having second thoughts on making the purchase, this Michael Bay-directed trailer will more than likely sway your decision towards forking over that $50.

2011 F1 Game hits the world of 3D

2011 f1 game hits the world of 3d picture

The Nintendo 3DS is cool for a number of reasons. One, it’s hand-held, which means that you can play it anywhere and at anytime. Two, it’s the first hand-held video game unit that boasts of 3D technology, and those that have the 3DS have had nothing but praise for all the 3D awesomeness they enjoy.

And now, die-hard fans of Formula One will be happy to know that F1 2011, the sequel to the BAFTA award-winning F1 2010 game, is getting prepped to have versions for both the 3DS and the Sony’s successor to the PSP, the NGP. The 3DS and the NGP joins the Playstation 3, the Xbox 360, and PC as available consoles where F1 2011 can be played in. As it stands, the game is scheduled to drop in stores starting September 20, 2011.

While it should make for some pretty exciting racing with all these consoles, the 3DS version is what’s looking to be the most interesting of the lot. Watching a Formula One race in 3D is one thing, but actually playing a game that supports the same high-tech format is a completely different thing.

As part of the game, players will be tasked to compete in a wide rage of competitive and co-operative multiplayer components, including a career mode that puts you in the driver seat of one of the fastest machines on the planet going nose-to-nose with the official teams and race drivers of the 2011 FIA F1 World Championship.

Needless to say, the 3DS version of the 2011 F1 game is what’s getting us all geeked up about it. September can’t come soon enough, can it?

Top Gear: Where’s Stig? by BBC Interactive

It seems only fitting that with all the controversy he has been involved with in the past year, The Stig would end up taking a much-needed hiatus from his job as Top Gear’s resident driver. But while our definition of a vacation involves white sand beaches or a round of golf at the local clubhouse, the Stig has a different approach: end up in God-knows-where and ask you to find him while being surrounded by people from all walks of life.

This is “Top Gear: Where’s Stig?”, the latest game from BBC Interactive. Taking a ‘page’ from the hit book of the same title, which, in turn was inspired by the ‘Where’s Waldo’ franchise, Top Gear: Where’s Stig? will test not just your familiarity with Top Gear’s inaudible test driver, but will also test how sharp your eyes are, as well as your attention-to-detail.

Find the Stig, his Top Gear buddies, and a boatload of other items, and you’ll be well on your way to unlocking the mysterious driver’s whereabouts. Are you up for it?

Buy the app and find out.

Split/Second by Disney Interactive

Sometimes, the best racing strategy doesn’t involve a fast car or superior driving skills; all you need to do is have bottles of lightning in your bag and the ability to just throw them at your hapless opponents at the right possible time. That’s exactly what Disney’s Split/Second iPhone racing game is all about. It’s not so much about the car as it is about what kind of sneaky Power Plays you have up our sleeve, all in the name of winning a reality competition.

To be fair, Split/Second is as action-packed a racing game as there is on the iPhone. Add that to the fact that the whole story-line is pretty different – you’re a contestant in a reality show, if you can believe that – and you’ve got a game that should deliver a lot of adrenaline-pumping racing right from the first ‘episode’ of the reality show.

Whether it does, though, is entirely dependent on how you enjoy the spectacle of racing in such a chaotic environment where no lead is safe – even if you’re racing in first place and you’re about ten feet from the finish line.

GT Racing: Motor Academy by Gameloft

When you’ve played a game like Gran Turismo 5, your standards for all other racing games are pretty high. Unfair as it sounds, car racing games on the iPhone don’t really have a chance to give you the same sense of satisfaction when you’ve played an hour – or about 1,000 hours – of GT5.

Having said that though, Gameloft’s GT Racing: Motor Academy is one of the few games on the iPhone that can go above and beyond the invisible GT Wall because, well, it kind of looks and plays like one of those old Gran Turismo games.

The whole concept of the game is pretty much the same as the GT series. You need to earn a license to be able to race. You can buy cars from the dealerships with over 100 models from 24 real life brands with some pretty awesome car selections. You can go over to the tuning shops and put in some new performance packages. And when you win races, you win money that you can spend on – what else? – cars!

Needless to say, GT Racing took the whole Gran Turismo formula and turned into a pretty awesome iPhone game.

Reckless Racing by Pixelbite

Some people enjoy the whole spectacle of luxury supercars tangled in a heated race around the streets of Monaco. While there’s nothing wrong with car racing games of that nature, you can’t expect these very same folks to enjoy a little dirt on their fenders – and possibly even some scrapes here and there. For that particular crowd, the perfect rough and tumble game is Reckless Racing.

Featuring a steady diet of imposing pick-ups, muscle cars, and the occasional big rigs, Reckless Racing takes us to a world where exotic vehicles are about as welcome as a LeBron James is in Cleveland.

This game is all about the muscle. Climb behind the wheel of a pick up and navigate your way around a makeshift course that’s full of dirt, pot holes, and of course, ramps that just so happen to be there, waiting and willing for you to take your rigger and fly it through the air. Reckless Racing is definitely not for the high-brow, but it is perfect for everyday folks like us who don’t mind getting a little down and dirty on occasion.
