When you first look at Morgan’s new luxury car, the Morgan EvaGT, you would never expect it to be large enough to fit a family of four. However, this is exactly what Morgan says the vehicle is capable of. According to Morgan, "the car can seat four adults and has a large boot (reference the current Morgan Aero SuperSport, but it is considerably deeper on the EvaGT with a full hatch style entry)." The vehicle was built with practicality in mind and offers a comfortable ride for a family’s everyday traveling needs.
Inspired by UK’s early 1950s sport saloons, the Eva GT is based on the Aero SuperSports platform currently used in production for the Morgan Aero SuperSports GT3 race cars. Back in 2010, Morgan announced details on their latest creation which was already available for order. A deposit of £5000 was needed to reserve your EvaGT and the first 100 cars are planned for production to begin in mid 2012.
The Eva GT is powered by a BMW Twin Turbo straight six engine that develops a total of 306 HP and 400 NM of torque and is mated to a 6 speed manual or automatic gearbox. The car sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and can hit a top speed of 170 mph.
UPDATE 12/16/2011: The Worcestershire-based car builder has announced that customers will have to wait another two years to finally see the EvaGT put into production. Originally scheduled for a Geneva Motor Show debut in 2012, the Morgan Eva GT will actually be making its appearance at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show due to the fact that the company wants to integrate magnesium alloy technology - which is currently under development - into the vehicle.
During the past few months, Morgan has spent more than £1.4 million for this revolutionary material which will be used for the car’s chassis. The company hopes that by using magnesium it will make the car less dense and will improve both weight and structural performance.
When most people think of Pebble Beach they think of hitting a little while ball with a club next to the most beautiful scenery in the United States. We don’t think of those sort of things though. We think of the automotive festivities that take place on the coast.
This year, we had many cars that were shown. There were new cars like the new Ford Mustang Boss 302 , and there were old cars like the Ferrari F40 birthday collection. In total, 2010 was a spectacular year at the beach for petrol heads.
With all the new car introductions and high-end auctions, automotive lovers of any age will love the extravaganza that was the Pebble Beach Week in California.
We have compiled a list of every new car that was shown in Cali, and some of them are truly amazing. There is even a F1 looking car.
A couple of months ago we got a first look at Morgan Motor Company’s plans for an EvaGT when they released a teaser image of the future luxury car. The image was a little dark, but it intrigued us nonetheless. The car is set to debut this weekend at the Pebble Beach Concours , but apparently Morgan thought that an extra little teaser a couple of days before the event wouldn’t hurt. They provided the world with this sketch of the EvaGT and, although it is much better than the obscure teasers Ford provided for the Explorer, it still leaves us wanting more. Ahhh, the beauty of teasers.
The EvaGT is built on a modified version of the aluminum chassis featured on the Aero Supersports and is powered by a BMW 3-liter straight six engine that uses mono twin turbo and direct injection technologies and develops a total of 306 hp and a maximum torque of 295 lb-ft. It’s mated to a six speed automatic gearbox or to a six speed manual transmission. The engine sprints the car from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, while top speed goes up to 170 mph.
If the specifications and teasers are enough to make you want to take a closer look at the EvaGT then come back this weekend as we will have official details once the car debuts at Pebble Beach. But if you are seriously interested then you better act fast; the EvaGT is set to go into production in 2012 with only 100 units planned and Morgan will be taking deposits on Sunday.
