2011 Morgan 4/4 75th Anniversary Edition

The Morgan 4/4 is a car that has been around longer than a lot of us have been alive. Unless you lived through the second World War, there’s a good chance that you still weren’t around when the 4/4 was first introduced back in 1936. 75 years later, Morgan is rolling out a special edition model of the 4/4, appropriately called the "75th Anniversary Edition."

With an overall weight of just 920 kg/2028 lbs, the Morgan 4/4 75th Anniversary Edition is as light as a feather, which bodes well for it considering that it’s powertrain is a relatively subdued 2.0-liter Ford Duratec engine that only produces 145 horsepower. It doesn’t sound like a record-setter, but when you combine the output with its lightweight, then you have a car that can hit 0-62 mph in just 7.2 seconds and boasts a top speed of 118 mph.

Aesthetically, the Morgan 4/4 75th Anniversary Edition comes in a choice of three color options - Black Sport, Sport Red, and Old Español White - with a matte black longitudinal stripe and a "4/4 75th" inscribed on it. Other unique details of the 4/4 75th Anniversary Edition include chrome mirrors, a set of black 15" spoke wheels, black leather seats, and wood details on the steering wheel and the dashboard courtesy of Moto Lita.

Ownership of the Morgan 4/4 75th Anniversary Edition will cost you £38,750, which is around $60,000 based on current exchange rates. For a car that’s clearly long in the tooth, special edition models come few and far in between. That’s what has made the Morgan 4/4 75th Anniversary Edition such a compelling model for numerous generations.

2012 Morgan Eva GT

When you first look at Morgan’s new luxury car, the Morgan EvaGT, you would never expect it to be large enough to fit a family of four. However, this is exactly what Morgan says the vehicle is capable of. According to Morgan, "the car can seat four adults and has a large boot (reference the current Morgan Aero SuperSport, but it is considerably deeper on the EvaGT with a full hatch style entry)." The vehicle was built with practicality in mind and offers a comfortable ride for a family’s everyday traveling needs.

Inspired by UK’s early 1950s sport saloons, the Eva GT is based on the Aero SuperSports platform currently used in production for the Morgan Aero SuperSports GT3 race cars. Back in 2010, Morgan announced details on their latest creation which was already available for order. A deposit of £5000 was needed to reserve your EvaGT and the first 100 cars are planned for production to begin in mid 2012.

The Eva GT is powered by a BMW Twin Turbo straight six engine that develops a total of 306 HP and 400 NM of torque and is mated to a 6 speed manual or automatic gearbox. The car sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and can hit a top speed of 170 mph.

UPDATE 12/16/2011: The Worcestershire-based car builder has announced that customers will have to wait another two years to finally see the EvaGT put into production. Originally scheduled for a Geneva Motor Show debut in 2012, the Morgan Eva GT will actually be making its appearance at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show due to the fact that the company wants to integrate magnesium alloy technology - which is currently under development - into the vehicle.

During the past few months, Morgan has spent more than £1.4 million for this revolutionary material which will be used for the car’s chassis. The company hopes that by using magnesium it will make the car less dense and will improve both weight and structural performance.

2012 Morgan Plus 8

The return of classic auto brand Morgan is coming with the rebirth of some of its classic vehicles. We’ve already touched on reincarnated versions for some of their old model line-up, including the highly-anticipated Three-Wheeler.

Fast forward to today and we just got word that another old-school Morgan will be making a comeback at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, after a brief hiatus in the retirement block. Discontinued in 2004 after being born in 1968, the Plus 8 has an enduring appeal that very few cars can boast of, further emphasizing the car’s stature as one of Morgan’s all-time classics.

Details behind the reincarnated Plus 8 are still being kept under wraps, but a few details about the car have already leaked out, including the addition of modern components to go with the retro-futuristic styling and a choice of eight exterior finishes as well as an interior that will carry a multitude of wood-finished options. But the most important piece of news surrounding the new Plus 8 is the expected price tag its going to carry. In this case, the facelifted Plus 8 will cost £71,000, which is around $112,000 based on current exchange rates.

It’s not exactly the most affordable option out on the market, but if the new Plus 8 is being touted as a modern-day version of the classic machine, then the price may very well be justified.

2011 Morgan 3-Wheeler Superdry Edition

morgan 3-wheeler superdry edition picture

Morgan hasn’t been back in the game for a year and they’re already coming out with a special edition model for their reincarnated 3-Wheeler. We’re guessing these guys are going full steam ahead with their comeback.

The new special edition 3-Wheeler comes courtesy of a tie-up between the famed automaker and English clothing brand, Superdry. The whole package comes with a unique leather jacket and a 3-Wheeler model that comes with a custom shifter, a new fuel filter cap, an orange stripe on the tires, a matte silver paint with custom graphics, a Superdry leather interior, and plaques of recognition of the special edition series.

Together with all these new goodies, the 3-Wheeler also comes with an impressive 2.0-liter twin SS engine that produces 115 horsepower and a weight of just 500 kg (about 1102 lbs) with a 0-62 mph time of just 4.5 seconds.

The car will only run on a limited number - only 200 models are being built - with the price tag still being kept under wraps. Since the standard model costs £46,000 - $75,500 - you can expect the 3-Wheeler Superdry Edition to fetch more than that.

2012 Morgan Electric Aero Supersports

As if we haven’t been inundated with all these companies releasing EV sports cars recently, Morgan - yep, the very same brand that brought back the Three Wheeler - is laying the groundwork for its own electric sports car concept.

Together with British companies Zytek and Radshape, Morgan is in the development stages of building a prototype model that’s based on the Supersports chassis. If everything goes according to plan, two electric concepts being built under the Morgan +E program will be featured next year carrying a new high power-density electric powertrain courtesy of Zytek. This powertrain is being prepared as a new derivative of the company’s 70kW, 300 Nm electric powertrain that is already being used on some cars in the US.

For their part, Morgan is looking into exploring different avenues to further enhance their brand ever since its recent revival from obscurity. “This is an exciting investigation into the potential for a zero-emissions Morgan with near supercar performance,” says Morgan’s Operations Director, Steve Morris.

“By working closely with Zytek and Radshape, who already have considerable expertise in this field, we aim to make this a realistic concept that could lead to further developments if demand and other factors prove favorable.”

While this smells like an attempt by Morgan to keep abreast of the times by introducing an electric sports car concept, we’d be very surprised if this whole project makes it past the prototype phase. Not that we don’t want to see one on the road; it’s just that it speaks more about it being a feasibility study than it is about actually producing the car.

2011 Morgan Three-Wheeler

Fifty-eight years after Morgan rode off into the sunset with what was then their last three-wheeler, the iconic model is going to be brought back from the ashes to celebrate Morgan’s 100th birthday.

The news was first brought to our attention after Jill Price, the sister of Mogan managing director Charles Morgan, confirmed to the Morgan Three Wheeler Club that the company is currently developing the new three-wheeler.

Understandably so, a lot of us never got a chance to see an old-school Morgan three-wheeler in action because the company decided to stop production of the iconic vehicle back in 1953. But for those who got a taste of what it feels like to drive around the block with one of these bad boys, news of the car’s impending return is being met by gleeful excitement.

It’s no stretch to think that the three-wheeler’s return could open doors for Morgan to a new market of enthusiasts, those that will experience the thrill of a Morgan Three-Wheeler for the first time in their lives.

UPDATE 06/25/11: Who said that three-wheelers can’t do burnouts? Even if they can technically smoke only one tire, it doesn’t mean that smoke’s not coming out of it. And as proof, Morgan released this cool video of the new Three-Wheeler smoking its tires like the best of ’em! Check it out!

UPDATE 06/28/11: The new Morgan Three-Wheeler is powered by a fuel-injected, 115-horsepower V-Twin engine mated to a Mazda five-speed gearbox and is being built on the same platform as the upcoming EvaGT set to be launched in 2013. The company is now accepting orders for their new model and 480 buyers have already showed interest. The car is priced at £25,000 or about $40,000 at the current exchange rates.

UPDATE 07/19/11: Jay Leno has earned himself the right to test out some of the world’s most unique vehicles, having established a reputation as one of the foremost automotive collectors this side of the galaxy. So when he was given the keys to the new Morgan Three-Wheeler, it didn’t surprise us that he had a ball with it. Check out the video after the jump to hear Leno’s thoughts on the reborn classic three-wheelie.

Rare 1964 Morgan Four Plus Four for sale

As with all classic cars being sold these days, this 1964 Morgan Plus Four Plus is widely coveted not so much for its performance, but more so because it’s incredibly rare. How rare, you ask?

Morgan only made 26 of them between ’64-’67 and since then, most of these cars have gone under the radar or worse, gone the way of the heap shops. Distressing as all that sounds, there still remains a few that are in tip top condition, like this one.

This particular 1964 Morgan Plus Four Plus is now being sold by a Morgan dealer in California for a price tag befitting its rarity and exclusivity: $225,000.

Before looking like this, this rare gem of a classic went through a “nut and bolt restoration”. After all the repairs were done, the 1964 Morgan Plus Four Plus is now decked in British Racing Green and a yellow two-tone paint finish. The Plus Four Plus also has Cognac ostrich hides that are used on the interior, as well as a Full SuperSport specification motor and a set of Chrome wire wheels.

So for $225,000, would you buy this classic model? Heck, if we had that kind of cash, we would’ve called up that Morgan dealer in California by now.

Morgan to bring back three-wheeler after 60 years

Almost 60 years ago, Morgan rolled out the last of its three-wheelers never to be seen in a production line again. Well, you know what they say about never, right?

Never say never.

For the first time since the 1950’s, Morgan is bringing back the iconic three-wheeler as part of the company’s 100th year anniversary this year. The three-wheeler, which rose to prominence in the 50’s partly because it was the first car ever driven by Sir Stirling Moss, is set to return to a time when not a lot of people know anything about it.

But if you ask those who lived around the time of its popularity, they’d tell you that the three-wheeler was one of the coolest things on wheels. In addition to Moss, other notable personalities that owned a Morgan three-wheeler included Brigitte Bardot, Queen Noor of Jordan, Ralph Lauren, and Mick Jagger.

Now, it looks like the vehicle is set to be reborn, paving the way for a new generation of enthusiasts to experience the thrill of a Morgan three-wheeler.

Morgan prepares two new models

The Eva GT is not the only car Morgan has planned for the future, and with the EvaGT’s unique look and 1950s sport saloon style, the next two vehicles are sure to be as pleasing to the crowds as the EvaGT was at Pebble Beach.

According to British press, Morgan has two new cars in the works with a planned production during the next three years. One of the models will be called the LIFEcar 2, and the second one will be a "fun weekend vehicle".

The LIFEcar 2 will be an electric-diesel hybrid sportscar with an autonomy of more than 1000 miles, according to Morgan. The other model, on the other hand, is "more extreme, with real entertainment value."

As for the Eva GT, the production version will be very similar to the concept unveiled at the Pebble Beach: "We’ve got a reputation for translating show cars into road cars almost unchanged,” said Humphries. That’s our plan for the Eva GT. It needs a high-level brake light at the rear, but that’s about all." The Eva GT is powered by a BMW Twin Turbo straight six engine that develops a total of 306 HP and 400 NM of torque and is mated to a 6 speed manual or automatic gearbox. The car sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and can hit a top speed of 170 mph.

First sketch of the future Morgan EvaGT

A couple of months ago we got a first look at Morgan Motor Company’s plans for an EvaGT when they released a teaser image of the future luxury car. The image was a little dark, but it intrigued us nonetheless. The car is set to debut this weekend at the Pebble Beach Concours, but apparently Morgan thought that an extra little teaser a couple of days before the event wouldn’t hurt. They provided the world with this sketch of the EvaGT and, although it is much better than the obscure teasers Ford provided for the Explorer, it still leaves us wanting more. Ahhh, the beauty of teasers.

The EvaGT is built on a modified version of the aluminum chassis featured on the Aero Supersports and is powered by a BMW 3-liter straight six engine that uses mono twin turbo and direct injection technologies and develops a total of 306 hp and a maximum torque of 295 lb-ft. It’s mated to a six speed automatic gearbox or to a six speed manual transmission. The engine sprints the car from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, while top speed goes up to 170 mph.

If the specifications and teasers are enough to make you want to take a closer look at the EvaGT then come back this weekend as we will have official details once the car debuts at Pebble Beach. But if you are seriously interested then you better act fast; the EvaGT is set to go into production in 2012 with only 100 units planned and Morgan will be taking deposits on Sunday.
