Refreshed Nissan 370Z to debut in Chicago
  This news may come as a surprise considering that, before this, we have never heard about an updated version of the 370Z nor have we seen spy shots to indicate its existence. However, it has now been reported that Nissan will be bringing an updated version of the 370Z, both coupe and roadster models, to next week’s Chicago Auto Show. With an announcement like this, no other information was necessary to create a buzz, so no other details were provided. But since the updated sports car has kept its "370Z" nomenclature, don’t expect any major changes under the hood. We expect it to keep its usual 3.7-liter V6 engine with an output of 332 HP at 7,000 rpm and 270 lb-ft of torque at 5,200 rpm. However, we do expect changes in terms of fuel economy because it’s what many, if not all, automakers are focusing on. Changes will also be made to both the exterior and interior, but considering the model was just launched in 2009, nothing major is expected. Anybody that has any interest in the art that is digital animation will thoroughly enjoy "TheDriver" animated series that has just hit YouTube. If you remember, the series was first introduced a little under two years ago, only this time, it’s back with sharper details and additional footage that looks pretty impressive. The scene of the animated series is Los Angeles and The Driver is a mysterious Stig-like driver that drives a stealth black Nissan GT-R and resides in billboards. If that sentence doesn’t sound ridiculous enough for you, The Driver also possesses some sort of magic powers, capable of teleporting everywhere, leaving only a cloud of purple of smoke in its wake. As a vigilante of the streets of LA, the Driver apprehends law-breaking drivers that are hell bent on turning Los Angeles into their own personal race track. Street racers, petty criminals, drunk drivers, and the like are the enemies of The Driver. Nissan unveiled the 370Z Coupe in 2009 as a replacement for the 350Z, and the roadster version followed one year later. Over its short life, the car has largely remained the same, with only minor modifications made to the list of equipment. Compared to the 350Z, the new Nissan 370Z features a more aggressive design language, intentionally picking up elements from the 240Z’s design. These elements provide a sleek aerodynamic shape, a "dynamic motion" feel with a dramatic cantilevered roof, and a "low visual gravity." Both the coupe and roadster versions of the 370Z are offered in standard and Touring variants, with a 332 HP 3.7-liter DOHC V6 engine and choice of a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed automatic transmission. It seems Nissan Motorsport engineers have been fiddling around in the shop lately and have combined a Nissan 370Z with a street-legal 370Z Nismo Coupe to create the new 370 Nismo RC. This new race car conforms to FIA GT4 and World Challenge GTS class specifications and can even be modified to compete in the Grand Am Continental Tire Challenge GS class. Nissan has already begun taking orders. The new Nismo 370Z RC is significantly lighter than its production variant, coming in at 2,954 lbs to the Nismo 370Z’s 3,314 lbs and the standard 370Z’s 3,245 lbs. The Nismo 370Z RC is powered by a 3.7-liter VQ-series V6 engine that delivers a total of 355 HP at 7,400 rpm with 276 lbs of torque at 5,200 rpm, 5 HP more than the Nismo 370Z. Helping the engine along is a Nismo race exhaust, a Nismo tuned ECM, and high capacity Nismo clutch, flywheel, engine oil, transmission, and differential coolers. The engine is also stocked with numerous hose and connector upgrades to meet the rigorous demands of track use. The new Nismo 370Z RC comes equipped with an FIA-compliant roll cage, a fire extinguisher, a Recaro racing seat with 6-point racing harness, a Sparco racing steering wheel, a revamped, and a race-ready carbon fiber switch panel. 2011 Nissan 370Z by Stillen
The Nissan 370Z isn’t the most powerful sports car in Nissan’s line-up. That honor belongs to the almighty Godzilla, the GT-R. But suppose you wanted to turn your 370Z into something in the league of the GT-R, then you best give Steve Millen and the folks over at Stillen a call. Known for their aftermarket work on Nissan sports cars, Stillen has come up with a new project for the 370Z that’s street legal in all 50 states. The power upgrade consists of a Vortech V-3 Centrifugal supercharger kit, an air intake with a polished air charge pipe and genuine K&N intake filters, fuel injectors, an air-to-water intercooler, and an UpRev ECU tuning cable and software. Add all these performance enhancements together and you get a 370Z that carries a 3.7 liter V6 engine with an increased output of 500 horsepower, a significant increase from the standard model’s 332-horsepower output. And in case you don’t have a Nissan 370Z, Stillen’s tuning program also works for the Infiniti G37. Someday when you’re out on the road and you see a BMW M3, you won’t have to worry about being left in its dust. Rumors about a successor for the Nissan 200SX started circulating back in 2008, but now the car is coming out of the woodwork to pay a little competitive visit to the seemingly untouchable Mazda MX-5. Nissan’s plan to launch 52 new cars by 2016 has carved a path towards production for the 200SX, which may be seen as early as 2013. Prices will start from about £20,000 - or about $33,000 at the current exchange rates. The new 200SX will be built on a new mid-size platform supplied by Daimler that will also be used for the 370Z replacement and the next GT-R. There aren’t any details on the powertrain that will be used for the future 200SX, but rumors hint towards a tuned version of the Leaf’s drivetrain or a hybrid set-up as a couple of options. Other rumors suggest that an all-electric rear-wheel-drive version may be the way to go. These rumors stem from the Nissan ESFLOW concept, which debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March and ignited the fires about a future hybrid Nissan sportscar.  Nissan is rumored to be working on an affordable sports car, as a rival to the Mazda MX-5. The catch? Nissan’s sports car will feature an electric or plug-in hybrid drivetrain. The Mazda MX-5 Miata is the car that usually comes up in discussion when automakers set their sights on developing an affordable sports car. Since its debut in 1989, the Mazda MX-5 has become the standard for world-class handling in a package to fit anyone’s budget. Some would accuse the MX-5 of being underpowered, but when it comes to the ability to carve corners with razor-like precision, the MX-5 has few rivals, and none in its price range. If new rumors surrounding Nissan are correct, that’s about to change. As part of its plan to launch 52 new cars over the next five years, Nissan is rumored to be working on an affordable rear-drive sports car. While everyone’s attention at Nissan’s stand in Geneva was aimed at their new Esflow concept, the 370Z GT Edition sitting idly by almost passed by unnoticed. It’s a little unnerving, but it’s a good thing it didn’t escape altogether because it is a very cool car. The model was created as a special celebration of Nissan’s huge success in GT racing all over the world and as part of the celebration the special edition gets subtle suspension revisions, special racing strips, new wheels, and three special body color choices. The V6 engine remains unchanged. "The 370Z is an iconic sports car and the GT Edition underlines its appeal to enthusiasts everywhere," said Pierre Loing, Vice President Product Planning, Nissan International SA. "The combination of outstanding performance and the dramatic looks of this very special 370Z more than lives up to the heritage of its illustrious forebear while its strong links to the race track shows its true pedigree." UPDATE 05/18/2011: The Nissan 370Z GT will be going on sale in the UK on June 1, 2011, for a starting price of £35,000 - or about $57,000 at the current exchange rates. UPDATE 11/21/11: The Nissan 370Z GT Edition is dropping in the Spanish market courtesy of Nissan Motor Iberica. Interested customers might need to keep their Christmas bonuses on their pockets because the car will carry a pretty hefty price tag of €47,400 ($63,700) for the Black Pearl version and €49,850 ($67,000) for the Black Rose version. We see a lot of funny commercials now and again, but rarely does one make us sit back in our chairs and let out a loud guffaw. Ladies and Gentleman, meet Pepe, a Mexican chicken ready to start its battle with the popular Nissan 370Z. There will be no eye-gouging or scratching, but there will be plenty of laughs and speed. The marketing geniuses that came up with this idea have summed it up as follows: "A Mexican chicken? Up against the meat-eating Nissan 370Z? The things we do to prove a point. By the way, those of a nervous disposition, look away now." This is the point where we have to clear up some things for the boneheads out there. Do NOT try this at home. A chicken is an innocent animal that should not do battle against anything, let alone a 332 HP sports car. The snow has melted in most parts of the world, so customers are gearing up for what will be a hot Spring and an even hotter Summer. And if you just so happen to be an owner of a 2008-2010 Nissan 370Z Roadster, then you’ll want to pay attention. Schmidt Revolution has prepared a tuning package for the roadster that offers a new set of wheels, a new coilover suspension and a stainless steel exhaust system to get the car ready for those long, top down rides. Starting from the bottom up, Schmidt Revolution will have two sets of wheels for customers to choose from. Variant 1 includes a new set of three-part C-Line wheels, size 9.5x20-inch front and 12x20-inch rear, with 245/30-20 and 305/25-20 Hankook tires for a price of $7,200. The next version, Variant 2, will include wheels, size 21", with 245/30-21 and 295/25-21 tires. This set goes for $8,600. Both sets come with Radinox-coated rims that are washable and suitable for everyday use. Further customization for the Nissan 370Z Roadster comes from a new H&R coilover system that allows the 370Z to hug the ground a little tighter and a new stainless steel exhaust system along with dampers for a more appropriate engine sound. The coilover system can be had for $1,600, while the exhaust system pushes the envelope further at $6,500. No changes were made to boost performance for the 370Z Roadster, so the customer will have to make due with the 3.7 Liter DOHC V6 engine already situated under its hood. This engine will produce 332 HP, up 26 HP from the old VQ35 engine thanks to the new Variable Valve Event and Lift control (VVEL) which manipulate the motor’s breathing too ensure optimum respiration and allow for the car’s redline to be raised by 1000 revs all the way up to 7500 RPM.
