2012 Nissan Pathfinder Concept

The Nissan Pathfinder entered the market in 1986 and is currently only in its third generation (which began in 2005). With seven years under its belt, it’s high time for this SUV to enter the next chapter of its life and Nissan is prepping that with its first concept version unveiled at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show in January.

The concept’s exterior will mostly be remained untouched in the production version and includes a wide chrome grille and large aerodynamic headlights, recessed front windshield wipers, chrome door handles and large rear combination lights.

The new Pathfinder Concept is powered by a refined V6 engine and next-generation Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) that ensure a fuel economy increase of over 25%.

"Nissan is in a great position today. Sales are up, market share is increasing and our dealers have a great selection of 2012 Nissan cars, trucks and SUVs in inventory," said Al Castignetti, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division, Nissan North America, Inc. "This new Pathfinder Concept is just the beginning of a far-reaching wave of new products on the horizon for Nissan. By the end of 2012, more than 70 percent of our sales volume will be all-new or redesigned."

UPDATE 02/08/12: A full month after the Pathfinder Concept’s unveiling, Nissan is offering new details on the preview SUV’s interior features. It seems that the concept, and the future production version, will be offered with leather upholstery, heated / cooled front seats, a power tilt / telescoping steering wheel, and a Bose audio system. There’s also a push-button ignition, tri-zone climate control, Bluetooth/iPod connectivity, GPS navigation, and a rear seat entertainment system. As a bonus to this news, Nissan is also offering new images and a new video showing the concept during cold weather testing.

Official details on the 2013 Nissan 370Z Facelift Released

2013 Nissan 370Z Facelift
2013 Nissan 370Z Facelift

As we previously reported, Nissan will be bringing a facelift version of their 370Z sports car to the 2012 Chicago Auto Show and since the show is only a few hours away, the first details of the vehicle have been released. The new 370Z will be offered in Coupe, Roadster, and NISMO Z configurations and will go on sale in June 2012.

Updates for the refreshed 370Z include a revised front fascia with vertical LED daytime running lights, the addition of a red reflector to the rear fascia, revised 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, and a new set of 18" wheels for the Coupe version. The models equipped with the Sport Package will receive red-finished brake calipers and Euro-tuned shock absorbers. Nissan will also offer two new exterior colors – Magma Red and Midnight Blue - and will combine them with a dark-finish fuel gauge trim.

The list of standard equipment will include a new Bose Premium Audio Package with two additional speakers and two subwoofers, premium gun metallic dark-finish 19-inch wheels, and Nissan GT-R style high-rigidity brake hoses and performance brake fluid.

Under the hood, Nissan has kept the usual 332 HP 3.7-liter DOHC V6 engine and the choice of either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed automatic transmission.

More details will be revealed tomorrow when the 2013 Nissan 370Z makes its debut in Chicago, so stay tuned!

2012 Nissan Invitation

Nissan will be unveiling a preview version of a new addition to the B-segment at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The Invitation concept will be introduced next to the Micra city car and the Juke crossover. The production version of the Invitation will follow sometime in 2013.

The first details of the Invitation offered by Nissan state that the concept will combine "fresh style, innovation, and excitement." The concept’s sides are dominated by a distinctive character line, known internally as the "Squash Line," which adds a powerful dynamism to its profile with distinctive sculpted front and rear wings. The interior combines the latest technologies with high quality materials.

At this point, Nissan hasn’t revealed what engine will be used for the Invitation, but they have confirmed that it will offer an ultra-low CO2 emission target of under 100g/km. This tells us that we should expect to see the supercharged 1.0-litre engine already used in the Micra. However, whichever engine ends up underneath that hood, Nissan has promised class-leading levels of fuel efficiency and emissions.

Refreshed Nissan 370Z to debut in Chicago

This news may come as a surprise considering that, before this, we have never heard about an updated version of the 370Z nor have we seen spy shots to indicate its existence. However, it has now been reported that Nissan will be bringing an updated version of the 370Z, both coupe and roadster models, to next week’s Chicago Auto Show.

With an announcement like this, no other information was necessary to create a buzz, so no other details were provided. But since the updated sports car has kept its "370Z" nomenclature, don’t expect any major changes under the hood. We expect it to keep its usual 3.7-liter V6 engine with an output of 332 HP at 7,000 rpm and 270 lb-ft of torque at 5,200 rpm. However, we do expect changes in terms of fuel economy because it’s what many, if not all, automakers are focusing on.

Changes will also be made to both the exterior and interior, but considering the model was just launched in 2009, nothing major is expected.

More details will be revealed next week at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show, so stay tuned!

Nissan introduces "self-healing" iPhone case

Japanese automaker Nissan is introducing a new, state-of-the-art technology that promises "self-healing" capabilities. We’d love to tell you that this is some kind of joke, but the truth is, it’s not.

In all seriousness, Nissan is unveiling a cell phone accessory that features their new Scratch Shield paint technology. According to Nissan, the Scratch Shield paint technology promises to heal small scratches within an hour for less-serious instances, and up to a week’s time in more serious occurrences.

The technology was developed by Nissan in collaboration with University of Tokyo and Advanced Softmaterials Inc. This material is expected to be used in a number of future Nissan and Infiniti models, but will make its debut as an protective accessory for the iPhone 4 and 4S models.

The case is made out of ABS plastic, a material that’s stronger and tougher than any other kind of plastic and, when combined with their new Scratch Shield technology, promises to be a revolutionary new safety accessory to protect our beloved iPhones.

We’ve seen some pretty crazy things being invented the past couple of years, but a cell phone case that heals itself?

That’s something we’d love to take a look at.

2012 Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3

JR Motorsport announced their Nissan Nismo GT-R GT3 back in September 2011, but Nissan themselves have already gone to work on a GT-R GT3 Nismo that they plan to unveil at next week’s Dubai 24 Hours. The new car will compete in the A6 class at the hands of Michael Krumm (GER), Tom Kimber-Smith (UK), Franck Mailleux (FRA), and Alex Buncombe (UK).

The new GT-R GT3 Nismo is powered by a 3.8 liter V6 twin-turbo engine mated to a Hewland 6-speed sequential gearbox with a Sachs 4- plate sintered clutch and a semi automatic pneumatic paddle.

The GT3 Nismo has also been equipped with a new set of 18" RAYS center-lock, aluminum forged wheels and a new set of Brembo brakes. Nissan then replaced the standard exhaust system with a new side-exit exhaust with optional catalytic converter. The panels and doors are made of carbon composite and, for a better aerodynamic, Nissan has attached a wind tunnel developed front splitter, bumper, and flat floor, as well as an adjustable rear wing.

UPDATE 01/23/12: Nismo and JR Motorsports (JRM) have released new details and a new image on the Nismo GT-R that will be used for GT3 racing worldwide. The model will use a 3.8 V6 twin-turbo engine based off the standard car, with the output increased to 530 HP at 6,400. If anyone interested, the starting price for this racer is 298,000 Euro, or about $388,000 at the current exchange rates.

UPDATE 03/26/12: The Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 is finally out on track. Check out how the racer takes to the asphalt by clicking on the photo above!

Video: Nissan Juke-R blows away fancy European exotics

If there was every any skepticism surrounding the Nissan Juke-R, this amateur video of the Nissan UK project taking on some of the world’s most powerful supercars is all the evidence Nissan needs to validate the tuned-up crossover.

The site of this race is the Dunlop 24 Hours of Dubai, where the Juke-R incidentally served as the official safety car. We can imagine that this race was set up pretty quickly with the Juke-R taking on a Lamborghini Gallardo, a Ferrari 458 Italia, and a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG on a short and improvised sprint track.

With the credentials of the European exotics, it appears that the Juke-R has some serious competition - at least until the light turned green. That’s when the Juke-R simply flexed its GT-R-powered muscles, blasting the three exotics like they were plastic traffic cones.

Surprising is an understatement, but we do have to pay attention to the track conditions. It wasn’t the best one for racing, but all things considered, elements included, the Juke-R more than held its own against three of the most powerful exotic cars in the world.

Consider us very impressed.

2013 Nissan GT-R

The Nissan GT-R just gets better and better every year and 2013 will be no exception. The original version launched back at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show delivered a total of 473 HP; the most recent model - Model Year 2012 - went up to an impressive 530 HP; and things aren’t slowing down for the Japanese automaker. The new version (2012 in Japan, 2013 in USA) has made its official debut at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show, and Nissan has delivered the kind of performance the GTR is known for, but not what we expected.

The bad news from this reveal is that, despite previous rumors, the 2013 GT-R will not deliver 560 HP. Its output has been increased indeed, but "only" to 542 HP - an increase of 12 HP over the current model. The most impressive part however is that the 466 lb-ft of torque will be delivered from 3,200 rpm all the way up to 5,800 rpm.

For 2013, the GT-R will also offer a new "For Track Pack" special edition that adds new high-friction seats, a stiffer suspension, and lighter wheels.

UPDATE 01/20/2012: Nissan has just announced prices for the 2013 Nissan GT-R, which is on sale now at Nissan dealers nationwide. The model will be offered in two versions: the GT-R Premium at a starting price of $96,820 and the GT-R Black Edition priced at $106,320. An optional Special Paint-Super Silver will add another $3,000 to the car’s price.

2011 Nissan GTR 35RX by GReddy

GReddy takes pride in the fact that they are a company "founded and managed by racers and enthusiasts" and their latest take on the Nissan GT-R is proof of that fact.

The new GTR 35RX by GReddy is powered by a 4.3 liter stroker VR engine that has been tweaked, pushed, and pulled for amazing results. It starts with a Twin Turbo upgrade kit and a Type-29R Cross-flow intercooler kit that rev the power all the way to 1,084 HP, while a Ti 94mm full Y-back titanium exhaust system ensures the engine growl sounds just right. Other features for the 35RX include a tuned GR6 transmission cooled down by a DCT transmission cooler kit, a Dodson/Exedy clutch kit, a Dodson first gear upgrade, and WPC treated full gear set and clutch steel plates. The power is sent to MT drag radial tires with Ray’s Engineering Volk Racing G2 wheels. Visually, the first thing anyone will notice is the giant BOMEX rear wing, but GReddy is also working on a top secret front bumper for the kit.

All of the hard work put into the Nissan GTR 35RX by GReddy came to a head on September 18, 2011, when it recorded a 202.5mph top speed at the Fuji Speedway with World Champion Time Attack Challenge pilot, "Tarzan" Yamada behind the wheel. The vehicle currently does the quarter mile in the nine second range, but GReddy is still working on it to achieve a time in the eight second range.

UPDATE 01/18/2012: GReddy has unveiled an official video presenting their 35RX GT-R during a testing session. Fearless Option Video driver, Tarzan Yamada, takes to the Fuji Speedway for the high speed test, achieving over 200mph! Enjoy!

Video: TheDriver animated short film returns to the Web to fight crime

Anybody that has any interest in the art that is digital animation will thoroughly enjoy "TheDriver" animated series that has just hit YouTube.

If you remember, the series was first introduced a little under two years ago, only this time, it’s back with sharper details and additional footage that looks pretty impressive.

The scene of the animated series is Los Angeles and The Driver is a mysterious Stig-like driver that drives a stealth black Nissan GT-R and resides in billboards. If that sentence doesn’t sound ridiculous enough for you, The Driver also possesses some sort of magic powers, capable of teleporting everywhere, leaving only a cloud of purple of smoke in its wake.

As a vigilante of the streets of LA, the Driver apprehends law-breaking drivers that are hell bent on turning Los Angeles into their own personal race track. Street racers, petty criminals, drunk drivers, and the like are the enemies of The Driver.

Check out the re-introduced video and watch a goon driving a Nissan 370Z get his comeuppance courtesy of this mysterious crime-fighter.
