For the 2002 DTM season Opel fine-tuned their Astra V8 Coupe to make it even more competitive. Much work has gone in the bodywork to ensure air splitting aerodynamics. Driver's safety is very important in the DTM championship and in 2001 the series saw the introduction of the HANS (head and neck system) to protect driver's head and neck in an accident. The added safety features still allow for a very quick exit from the car if needed, the Astra V8 Coupe can be exited by a fully strapped driver in under four seconds.
