Next to the Insignia Sport Tourer, Opel is also testing a new addition to the Insignia family: a Cross Four version aiming against models like VW Passat Alltrack or Audi Allroad. This decision shouldn't be such a surprise for you considering that in Europe offering Off-Road look on wagons has become very popular.

This car was in fact previewed by Opel->ke65's in house tuner Irmscher back in 2011, but now Opel finally decided to make it official in order to improve sales on the Insignia->ke2972. The new Cross Four version will be based on the Insignia Sport Tourer version, but it will add a raised ground clearance, bigger wheels, black flared fenders and different bumpers with aluminum details. There will also be different and wider side sills.

We expect the new Cross Four version to arrive in the same time with the revised Insignia lineup, so keep an eye on the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Competitors

Audi Allroad

As no surprise to anyone, when it comes about all-road models, Audi does one of the most amazing jobs. Its models look great, offers pretty much the same capabilities as any other SUV and in the same time all models come equipped with Quattro system.

The A4 Allroad Quattro received a small revision in 2011 when Audi installed a revised grille, restyled headlights and a modified hood. Under the hood Audi will offer the same engines as in the standard A4, all of them equipped with standard quattro permanent all-wheel drive system.

Volkswagen Passat Alltrack

Passat Alltrack is one of the best sold models in its segment on the European market. The model has been specially designed to fill the gap between models like Passat Station Wagon and the smallest SUV is VW's linup: Tiguan. It received a greater off-road ramp angle, approach angle, departure angle, and higher ground clearance.

The model comes with a wide choice of petrol and diesel engines, with the most powerful version delivering a total of 210 horsepower.
