Elegant, dynamic styling, impressive performance plus high equipment and safety standards - all at affordable prices - are the most striking features of the new Opel Astra Coupé that goes on sale throughout Europe in spring 2000.
Three modern, four-valve ECOTEC engines power the aerodynamic two-door four-seater (cD = 0.28). The top-of-the-line Turbo features a new 2.0-liter power unit with 190 hp, which takes the coupé to a top speed of 149 mph. An all-new 147 hp, 2.2-liter aluminum power plant and Opel´s proven 1.8 with 115 hp complete the line-up. All three gasoline engines combine strong performance with low fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. The coupé´s dynamic character is underpinned by its specially tuned, self-stabilizing DSA sports chassis. The newcomer´s attractive styling blends a sense of pace with understated elegance. The sleek exterior of the two-door, front-wheel drive coupé conceals surprisingly ample seating space for four adults and a generous trunk with a capacity of 460 liters (VDA test method).
Opel´s elegantly sporty newcomer is built by Bertone, the respected Italian coachbuilding and design specialists. Around 30,000 Astra Coupes a year will roll off an all-new assembly line at Bertone´s plant near Turin, where Opel’s strict quality control process is in place. Like every other member of the Astra family, the new coupé comes with a 12-year anti-perforation warranty.
