2010 Rapier SL-C Superlite Coupe

  Review

For the past five years, Rapier Automotive has been working on its mid-engine, custom, hand-built supercar. We are ecstatic to announce that they are now ready to take orders. Just make sure you do some hard-core thinking before calling the reservation line (617-909-0024) because this car has tons of options. Grab a pen (maybe a pencil if you are the indecisive type) and a piece of paper to take notes on all of the customizable options this car offers.

It would only be logical to start with the engine options for this vehicle. The first model is the LS376 which has a 6.2L, 469lb.-ft. of torque and which produces 480hp. It can do the quarter mile in 10.6 seconds and the 0-60 sprint in 3.2 seconds with a top speed of 222mph. If you are looking for a little more power, the LS7 and the supercharged, LS9 are also available. The LS7 has a 7.0L, 470lb.-ft. of torque engine and produces 505hp while the LS9 comes with a 6.2L SC, 604lb.-ft. of torque engine and produces 638hp.

Follow the jump for the full story.

This beast comes with an aluminum, tig-welded, Monocoque chassis/space frame hybrid with composite body panels and tips the scale at 2,375lbs. The vertical opening motorized doors and functional roof scoop feed cabin with aircraft style vents create the sporty look for this supercar. The exterior is finished off by 18X10 multispoke, aluminum wheels in the front and 18X13 multispoke, aluminum wheels in the rear that can be completed in an array of finishes.

The interior can also be customized with choices of either leather trim, carbon fibre, or a combination of both. The SL-C comes with a Digital Dash 2 Pro+ with data logging, 2-axis G-sensors, and infra-red lap timer and receiver. The standard audio system includes an Alpine DVD/CD/MP3 receiver/AV head unit and a navigational system while the upgraded premium system includes an Escort 9500 CI concealed radar detector/laser shifter.

1.

Apparently, Rapier Automotive is taking the recession into account as well because they offer an “aggressive” payment plan to help offset the cost of the SL-C which starts at $179,000. A 50% deposit will get them started on your vehicle and in 9 months your supercar will be ready for delivery. Rapier will also provide a customer log-in portal with photos posted bi-weekly to help keep you updated on the build or you can visit them anytime to take a look at their work in progress.

If you have the money to spend then this would definitely be a cool car to have. Unfortunately, our pockets are not that deep so we will have to live vicariously through the lucky people who can afford this type of supercar dream.

Speedy run, mighty engine and exotic style. The striking looks definitely creates an impact, design does equal decisions sometimes. You won’t be disappointed with the specifications anyway.

But you can’t please everyone and we know that.. and we look forward to criticism as it only helps us to improve our cars and our customer service. We’re not just re-badging RCR’s cars... far from it. We offer a bumper to bumper 1-year warranty, one point of contact during your build with bi-weekly photo and video updates and ability to grow with the car.

I’ve posted a few photos of the engine bay that show the quality of some of these components and we’ll have a free DVD available soon. Of course I’m going to push the Rapier and plug it, but it’s all based on feedback we’ve gotten from others at the shows so far.

Pretty car, but I would remove the wing for everyday use. Simple but effective. I wonder if the interior matches the price.

Too bad its been in development for 5 years, the styling is already dated. What I question is its performance. Anyone can develop a light chassis and slap in in a v-8, but it takes a lot more that a great weight to power ration to be able to compete with the true exotic supercars of the world.

The car doors are annoying but so cool! Now each of you can choose from three Chevrolet engine of your choice, probably I’ll go for the base 6.2 litter LS3 V8 with 480 horsepower.

It `s faster than a Ferrari Enzo and looks similar to the stunning ferrari FXX.

Surprisingly, the power is sent rearward via a six-speed Ricardo manual transmission, and with a kerb weight of just 2,375 pounds, the Rapier SL-C Superlite will rock to 62 mph from rest in less than 3.0 seconds and go all the way to a top speed of 222 mph. I think this car is a monster.

What a rear wing for sure it generate a tremendous air drag. Good thing that it came out from carbon.

Yes, it’s all about the weight. That’s why it has a max speed of 222MPH. Well, also the aerodynamic kit’s should take in to account.
