Niche French automaker, PGO, first introduced the Cevennes Water Snake Concept at the Shanghai Motor Show.

While it offered little in the way of details at that time, it has finally given us new details and photos of the exclusive sports roadster. And what it shows us is a car that looks more like it is ready to tackle the streets of the globe rather than sit in a design studio as a “concept.”

For what it’s worth, the company has indeed come a long way since it returned in 2005 after Al Sayer International acquired the fledgling coachbuilder. The company was actually born in the 1980s and started off by building replicas of classic European sports cars->ke506, namely Porsches->ke1.

But with the financial backing provided by Al Sayer International, PGO has evolved into having multiple models to its name, including the Cevennes Water Snake Concept.

Pros
Cons

Exterior

The Cevennes Water Snake Concept has been dressed in a fine blue carbon finish that, to be honest, looks pretty hot. On top of that, PGO also built a new sports body kit to give the concept a more aggressive stance than the standard Cevennes.

The angular headlights are distinguished by LED daytime running lights and the French automaker capped it off by installing a set of 18-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires.

Granted, that's not much in the way of exterior upgrades from the standard Cevennes, but where it lacked in quantity, it more than made up for in quality.

Interior

With its retro looks, the Cevennes Water Snake Concept has an interior that matches the advertisement. Leather looks to be pre-dominantly used, particularly on the upholstery, the dash and the flat-bottom steering wheel.

The classic look of the material matches well with the more modern carbon-fiber trim and the use of metallic accents that we can only assume were put there to add more glam to the interior.

Finally, there's also a Pioneer infotainment system, which is always a good idea these days for cars. Not the Pioneer part, although having a reputable brand helps. We're talking about the infotainment system part.

Despite its old-school looks, you still need new school equipment, right?

Performance

The PGO Cevennes Water Snake Concept is powered by a BMW-sourced 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine that produces 184 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. Those figures are good enough to allow the car to hit a top speed of 140 mph with an estimated 0-to-60 mph time of around 7 seconds.

Pricing

No word yet on how much the car is going to cost. Rest assured, we'll have all the updates when they become available.

Competition

Wiesmann MF5 Roadster

The Wiesmann MF5 Roadster is far superior to the Cevennes Water Snake Concept when it comes to performance credentials. For the record, the former is powered by a BMW M5-sourced 5.0-liter V-10 that produces 507 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque, allowing it to rocket from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds on its way to reaching a top speed of 192 mph.

But it's also likely to be more than just an expensive purchase. The Cevennes Water Snake Concept hasn't been priced yet, but we expect it to be more affordable than €189,500 ($250,000) price tag of the MF5 Roadster.

Conclusion

Unfortunately, the PGO Cevennes Water Snake Concept won't be hitting US shores any time soon. That being said, if you have a way of getting a piece, we're not going to stop you from doing so.
