2015 David Brown Automotive Project Judi

A lot of you may not be familiar with the name David Brown, but in a few months’ time, you’re going to get really acquainted with the name and maybe even have strong desire to buy what it’s planning to offer.

This coming April, the recently formed David Brown Automotive is set to premier a new sports car , that borrows technology from legendary sports car maker, Jaguar.

The vehicle, which has been tentatively christened "Project Judi", will also boast a classically-inspired exterior design that will perfectly blend with the best and newest in automotive performance, luxury , and technology.

Clearly, David Brown Automotive isn’t mixing words with the high expectations it has set for itself, leading us to believe that it is either preparing a sports car that will catch the industry’s attention, or it’s setting itself up for a massive disappointment.

We’d like to skew towards believing in the former, partly because we always support anybody with an enterprising eye towards making a splash in the auto industry. It’s got some good people in the fold, too, led by former Land Rover designer Alana Mobberley, who will be in charge of building the sports car.

Like everybody else, we’re looking forward to seeing what David Brown Automotive has under its sheets with the hope that it’s going to blow our expectations out of the water.

Update 2/10/2014: DBA has revealed the engine and chassis details on "Ptoject Judi," plus that it will make its debut on April 17, 2014.

DBA did not release too many details on the drivetrain in its latest update, but it did hand over a lot of performance specs, which is what we really wanted to see. Under the "Project Judi’s" hood is a 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 with 510 PS (503 horsepower) and 625 Nm (461 pound-feet) of torque, and it will link up with a six-speed automatic transmission. Now, we know that DBA claimed that it’s engine would not be shared with any other manufacturer, but it looks as if it has backed off of that stance and decided to use the Jaguar XKR’s supercharged V-8.

This drivetrain will net the "Project Judi" a 0-to-60-mph time of just 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph.

Much like its monster V-8, the "Project Judi’s" chassis hails from the Jaguar XKR. This means it’ll carry a set of 15-inch rotors up front and 14.8-inch rotors out back squeezed by Jag’s high-performance calipers. It’ll likely also carry the Jaguar Adaptive Dynamics that continuously adjust the dampers for the conditions, and the Electronic Active Differential.

On top of all of that, the Project Judi should also include Jaguar’s forged suspension components, which reduces unsprung weight and increases rigidity.

  • Supercharged 5.0-litre V8, 510PS/ 625Nm, 6-speed automatic
  • 0-60 mph (0-100km/h) in 4.6 (4.8) seconds; top speed 155 mph (248 km/h), limited
  • Chassis based on Jaguar XKR, bespoke and original exterior and interior design

All-new, British luxury automotive brand, David Brown Automotive, has announced the outline specifications of its first car.

Underneath its bespoke exterior design, is the acclaimed chassis and powertrain of the Jaguar XKR, optimised specifically for the car by Envisage group engineers.

This means the car will boast a thoroughly modern 5.0-litre Supercharged V8 engine, driving the rear wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Performance will be suitably brisk, yet refined, delivering 0-60mph in 4.6 seconds and a top speed exceeding 155mph (248 km/h).

“As reliability is vital, we chose to adopt a thoroughly proven and acclaimed chassis that not only delivers dynamic performance but also lends itself to our lightweight aluminium design. Renown for its performance and handling, the XKR has been extensively developed and refined by one of the world’s greatest car manufacturers, making it an obvious choice on which to base our car” said David.

These state-of-the-art underpinnings are matched to a completely original exterior and interior design, realised through the highest quality materials and craftsmanship.

David explained: “I wanted all the impact and style of a classic sports car, but with modern capabilities and conveniences. This is what I want in a car, but it’s not something anyone really offers. So, I’ve created it myself.”

“It has been developed using a combination of both traditional and contemporary technology, including the latest in automotive expertise. It has undergone a thorough analysis and development programme, including highly advanced windtunnel and dynamic simulations.”

“Project Judi” will be revealed to the public at the Top Marques Show, in Monaco, on 17th April 2014.
