Pagani Huayra

A lot of folks expected Pagani to introduce a new model at the Geneva Motor Show. But that didn’t happen. Instead, the Italian automaker showcased a new and extremely expensive option that customers can add to the Pagani Huayra.

Collaborating with Sonus Faber, Pagani introduced the custom Huayra sound system that was designed by the two companies to fit perfectly in line with the lightweight philosophy of the Italian supercar.

The overall setup is pretty remarkable for a sound system. It comes with carbon-fiber speaker cones, which is no small feat for those who designed and developed it.

In addition, the sound system also comes with neodymium magnets and an advanced amplifier system that results in a staggering 1,200 watts of power - three times as much as the "regular" sound system already installed in the Huayra.

That’s a lot of audio power to complement a car that already boasts of a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V-12 engine that produces 700 horsepower and 730 pound-feet of tire smoking torque.

The Drive channel has become one of the most popular auto-themed channels on YouTube. Last season, it ran a web series that went inside the heart of Koenigsegg.

Now, Drive and host Chris Harris are back and it’s teasing a new short film featuring another one of our favorite exotic manufacturers: Pagani .

In anticipation of the Zonda tribute film being released next week, Harris has unveiled a little teaser video featuring the two crown jewels of Pagani’ line-up, the Zonda S and the Huayra .

Just thinking about the film is already getting our hearts pumping. The Zonda and the Huayra are two of the finest supercars to have run the streets of the world in recent years. Any chance we have of getting to know more about these two exotics, as well as the people behind the creation of it, is something worth paying close attention to.

And if Drive’s Inside Koenigsegg web series is any indication, we’re going to get a real treat with this film.

In the world of supercars, you have many different players. Ferrari is the technological wonder child, while Lamborghini is that school bully that developed a bit of common sense with age.Aston Martin is the sophisticated gentlemen spy that can charm any living thing with a single word. Then, you come to Pagani, the new boy. These cars don’t feature any sophistication or old world charm. Yet, their radical designs and outrageous performance have placed them in the top tier of the supercar tree and now, we have a new version, the C9 .

In the world of follow-ups, this one is massive. Sort of like the Godfather II following the Godfather. The Zonda was the car that made Pagani into the company you see today. Automotive journalists loved it and the base version spawned many different special editions and one-offs like the Zonda F and Cinque . It was like nothing ever seen before. The Zonda’s development was evolutionary, but the C9 that will replace it will be revolutionary.

UPDATE 03/15/2013: Pagani has unveiled a new promo video for its Huayra supercar. Called simply "God of Wind" the new video is just an attempt to bring the supercar back to our attention. Enjoy!

YouTube user, Marchettino, has already brought us two amazing video from the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, but it seems he was a real presence in Geneva and has more video to reveal. The latest video he posted presents the new Pagani Huayra equipped with the over-teased Sonus Faber sound system. The model presented at the show was also equipped with the optional Track Pack, which includes a new carbon-fiber front spoiler that delivers additional downforce.

The new Sonus Faber sound system has been specially designed for the Huayra and it features new carbon cones, neodymium magnets and speaker diaphragms in a special ultra-light carbon fiber. It delivers a total of 1,200 watts, which is triple the amount of power when compared to the audio system currently offered in the Huayra.

Don’t get us wrong, we like the new sound system offered by Pagani, but we were hoping for something bigger.


When Pagani unveiled the first teaser video for the Geneva Motor Show, we were expecting something big for the show, but the second teaser proved us wrong. Now it’s official: Pagani will not offer any special-edition supercar for the show; all we are going to see is a new sound system developed by Sonus Faber.

This new sound system has been specially designed for the Huayra and it features new carbon cones, neodymium magnets and speaker diaphragms in a special ultra-light carbon fiber. This material helps the sound system deliver extreme rigidity, but in the same time they keep the total weight to the minimum. The new Sonus Faber delivers a total of 1,200 watts, which is triple amount of power when compared to the audio system currently offered in the Huayra.

Thanks to the new system, both passenger and driver will enjoy a rich sound experience. The system also allows the customer to configure the Huayra cabin depending on his personal needs.

Overall, we are impressed by this new sound system, but did Pagani really need to tease a freaking sound system so much? Oh well, guess it was important to them…

On January 28th, 2013 aPagani Huayra set a new Top Gear lap record with a lap time of 1:13.8. Impressive result for the new supercar, considering previous record was set by the Ariel Atom V8 with a lap time of 1:15.1.

Now, once the automotive world had the chance to take a closer look to the photos shot during the event, Pagani has some answers to give, as it’s been accused of cheating to set the lap record.

Pagani has been accused of using two types of tires while establishing the record. You see, a standard Huayra comes with Pirelli P-Zero tires that measure 255/35ZR19 in the front and 335/30ZR20 out back, but the Huayra that set the lap record was equipped with Pirelli tires sized 265/645 19 — not something you would see on a typical road car.

Why does this matter? Because Pagani said a standard Huayra has been used for the lap record.

Another report from Jalopnik reports that Pagani admitted the company indeed used two set of tires, but only "for communication reasons." It looks like during the test the Huayra was equipped with modified Zonda R slicks and for the photo session afterward, Pagani replaced them with Pirelli Pzero Corsa because the company wanted "to push them on the media."

So, the verdict is that while the rules were bent to the farthest reaches of their capacity, the Pagani was fitted with “street legal” tires. Of course, if you get even a sprinkle of water on the road, you would have to swap them out.

At the beginning of February, Pagani started a game with us, as it unveiled the first teaser video for a surprise it has prepared for 2013 Geneva Motor Show and invited us to decipher the clues. Today the game continues with a new teaser video that reveals pretty much nothing. Of course!

It does bring into focus one important name though, Sonus Faber - a name wheel know for those interested in top end audio. So, what does this mean? Most likely, that it’s not the Huayra Roadster model that Pagani will bring to Geneva.

Instead, the new teaser video makes us think we will see in fact a new Huayra special edition developed in cooperation with Sonus Faber. Or is Pagani just upgrading the Huayra with a new set of speakers?

We will have the answer to all these questions pretty soon.

Now that the Super Bowl is done, we can all go back to our regularly scheduled programming.

And look what greeted us. Pagani is asking us to figure out the clues from their new teaser, which certainly looks like a new supercar that will make its debut soon. We don’t know if it’s a Huayra Roadster or a special edition Huayra, but they do offer a number of clues that could lead us to a hypothesis afterwards.

The first indication that this is a new supercar is the presence of Huayra exhaust pipes, which is not that uncommon for a supercar of the Huayra’s stature. From there, we see snippets of mesh and some scissors, a dude putting a cover on a box, a shot of some fancy screws, the brake discs getting mechanically machined, a close-up shot of the red leather seat, and finally, another dude inspecting a finished piece of glass.

After all of that, we’re still nowhere near figuring out what Pagani’s trying to tell us. We do know it’s a supercar, unless Pagani is going into the sedan market (Yes, that’s sarcasm). We’re also confident that it’s scheduled to make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

Other than that, we’d love to get more clues, general!

Pagani Huayra

The accolades just keep on coming for the mighty 2011 Pagani Huayra .

Already considered as one of the fastest and most beautiful supercars on the planet, the Huayra recorded yet another milestone during the first episode of Top Gear’s 19th season.

With the venerable Stig at the wheel, the Huayra managed to set a new record for a street-legal car on the Top Gear Test Track, breaking the line with a lap time of 1:13.8, more than a full second faster than what the previous record-holder — the Ariel Atom V8 — accomplished when it clocked in a time of 1:15.1.

It’s an impressive achievement for a street-legal car, although it’s still a little ways off of the time its brethren, the Pagani Zonda R , set when it blasted through the course in a scintillating 1:08.5. Of course, the Zonda R isn’t street legal, as is the Ferrari FXX , which posted a time of 1:10.7.

Be that as it may, the Huayra’s time is still spectacular.

Until now, we have never seen these two amazing supercars — the new Ferrari F12berlinetta and the Pagani Huayra — put head to head, but now, Christian Gebhardt from sportauto.de has put the two supercars to the test on the Autodromo di Modena race track.

For those of you whom are not familiar with the two models, the Huayra is powered by a V-12 engine with an output of 700 horsepower and 811 pound-feet of torque. The Huyara launches from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds and hits a top speed of 235 mph. On the other hand, the Italian supercar gets a naturally aspirated V-12 engine that delivers a total of 729 horsepower and a peak torque of 508 pound-feet. It can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 3 seconds and goes up to a top speed of over 211 mph.
