The 406 has now been replaced by the 407, a car whose agile chassis defies its bulk, and the SW version fills the void the 406 estate once occupied. The ’SW’ badge declares that this model will be more of a ’Sports-Wagon’ than a wardrobe on wheels, however. Peugeot claims that a full-on estate won’t be included in the 407 line-up, due to the numbers of buyers moving away from conventional estates into MPVs like its 807.
Peugeot’s replacement for the ageing 406 has a striking grille and all over sleek look that some people love and others aren’t so sure about. In a tough sector, the 406 was starting to show its age, so the brand new 407 has a bit of a task to convince buyers. Refined, with a suave yet dependable image, time will tell if this Peugeot can lead the pack.
