In the past two years Peugeot->ke68 has been pretty busy testing their new 2008 crossover, but while we were all waiting to see the production version, Peugeot decided to unveil a concept version at the upcoming Paris Motor Show.

The 2008 is an evolution of the Urban Crossover concept we have seen earlier this year and will be built as a competitor for the Nissan Juke->ke3600. The 2008 combines the elegance and refinement of a hatchback with the remarkable versatility and interior space of a SUV. It measures just 4.14 meters long and 1.74 meters wide making it a perfect driving in the city.

The concept to be displayed in Paris is powered by a new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine with turbo and direct injection that helps it deliver an impressive 100 HP, but also low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

The exterior and the interior

Those of you who will attend this year's Paris Auto Show will see a 2008 concept painted in a very striking fluorescent yellow combined with Velvet matte varnish and Dark Chrome details. Up front the concept's bonnet and wings give the impression of protection and strength. The front is dominated by a "floating grille" and the new marque emblem. The headlamps are also featuring a precise and unique design and they are offered with LED lights.

The concept's wings and sides indicate natural athletic qualities, while a very cool set of large wheels accentuate the car's agility and versatility. At the rear, an aluminum spoiler and the roof bars give the appearance of a vehicle designed for speed and leisure.

Engine

The concept is powered by a new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine with turbo and direct injection that helps it deliver an impressive 100 HP, but also low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

We are not very sure if this engine will also be used in the production version, but we do know it will get a 1.6 liter HDI engine and a 1.6 liter VTI petrol engine with about 120 HP.

When can I buy one?

Peugeot is already testing the production version of the 2008 Concept, so we guess the first customers will enjoy their new SUV sometime in 2013. The model will be initially launched in France, but markets like Chin and Brazil will also enjoy the car.

The competition

The 2008 has been developed as a competitor for models like Nissan Juke->ke3600 and Skoda Yeti. Despite its bulk exterior look, Juke is already enjoying a huge success on the European market, so the question is what will the 2008 feature to steal the customers from it? Yeti is also stealing the hearts of many European clients and it is also a fact that people prefer Volkswagen models over the Peugeot ones. So, the new 2008 will really have a pretty difficult fight to handle. Will it make it? We hope so!
