The world has gone hatchback crazy!! Seriously, there are so many hatchbacks out or coming out that we have hatchbacks coming out of our ears. There’s the popular Ford Fiesta , the ever-changing Fiat 500 , the Audi A1 , and the Volkswagen Golf , just to name a few! Now, Peugeot has unveiled the official details on the most powerful 308 ever. The new 308 GTi will be available as a 5 door model only and will go on sale on June 10th, priced at 26,900 €.

The new 308 GTi is powered by the same engine as the RCZ Coupé: an all new 1.6 liter THP 200 bhp engine mated to 6-speed manual gearbox. The car makes the 0 to 60 mph sprint in 7.7 seconds and the 1000 m standing start in 27.8 seconds, but at the same time has a fuel consumption of 6.9 liters/100 km and a CO2 emission of 159 g/km of CO2.

The car’s exterior is distinguished by: a bright black carbon-style insert under the front bumper lower skirt (specificity France), "Sport" lower front panel derived from the 308 CC, lower rear bumper panel with Perla Nera black diffuser, rear spoiler, offering additional efficiency at high speeds, a twin chrome exhaust pipes, "GTi" badges on the side and rear of the body. We’ve met some pretty obsessive car owners in the past, but we sure haven’t come across a car that’s obsessed with a prospective owner. That’s completely new to us and it’s also the main idea of this Peugeot commercial featuring the new RCZ . The new ad, which we’re guessing will only be shown in Europe, features a well-dressed fellow being followed by the RCZ wherever he goes, from a dark and dingy alley all the way to the sixth floor of a nearby parking garage. The RCZ apparently knows what owner is suited to drive it and once it’s got a target pegged, it will continue its chase until the man is inside the vehicle’s waiting driver’s seat. Only in Europe, folks!

Peugeot will enter the ADAC Nurburgring 24 hour race with a racing version of their newest addition to the line-up, the RCZ Coupe . The race is scheduled for the weekend of May 15th-16th, the same weekend that Peugeot celebrates the bicentenary of its manufacturing adventure.

The Peugeot RCZ 24H is powered by a 2.0 l HDi FAP engine developing 200 h.p. and will be racing in the D1T category (Diesel engine between 1.7 l and 2.0 l cc). We doubt that will be enough to compete against Porsche who has dominated the 24H race for the past four years. From 2007-2009, Porsche has competed with their 997 GT3 hosting a 3.6L flat-six engine and producing 415hp.

When you mention the name ’Peugeot’ the first things that come to your mind are numbers like 207, 307, 407 - none of which can be described as ’off-road’ vehicles. In as much as Lexus was synonymous with the ’supercar before the LF-A came along, Peugeot Peugeot is not one of those brands you associate with images of a pick-up. But just like Lexus, that doesn’t mean that the French automaker won’t think outside the box, which is precisely what they did when they revealed to the Brazilian market, the Hoggar - the company’s first pick-up.

The Hoggar is based on the 207 platform and offers a a load volume of 1,151 liters and a payload of up to 742kg. It will go on sale on the 15th May, with three trim levels and two engine sizes: a 1.4-liter engine and a similar 1.6 liter variant.

Peugeot ’s new SR1 hybrid roadster concept is scheduled to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, which is still in March, but as far as the French carmaker is concerned, a little pre-emptive teasing of the SR1 wouldn’t hurt anyone.

A few weeks after releasing the first batch of photos of the SR1 hybrid, Peugeot has followed that up with a promo video of the car, complete with laser lights, techno music, and a touch of digital effects here and there.

The SR1’s noticeably sleeker design – a stark change from what Peugeot is known for – is a testament to the brand’s attempt in streamlining a new and edgier direction for the company, which, as far as we’re concerned, is a welcome change for a car brand that hasn’t exactly wowed us with their car’s aesthetic designs.

As far as we’re concerned, the sexy SR1 hybrid roadster concept is definitely a step in the right direction.
