2010 Peugeot RCZ

Get the Flash Player to see the videos.

Previewed in 2007 at the Frankfurt Motor Show by the 308 RCZ Concept, the Peugeot RCZ is the first Peugeot passenger car not to use the brand’s traditional numbering system with a zero or two zeros in the middle. It is also the first true Peugeot sports car set to compete with models like Audi TT.

Only 1.36 meters tall the RCZ sports car offers interior room for 2+2 people, with exterior design taken almost entirely for the concept car: the same double bubble roof (which can be ordered in carbon fiber), while the front windscreen, black roof and dark-tinted rear windscreen ensure a visual continuity strikingly set off by two aluminum roof arches.

At its launch the RCZ will be available with a choice of three engines: 1.6-litre THP petrol turbo delivering 156bhp and 240Nm of torque, a diesel 2.0-litre HDi FAP that delivers 163 hp and 340 NM of torque, and top of the line a 1.6-litre THP with 200 hp. The engines can be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

The RCZ can be ordered with either 18-inch or 19-inch wheels, McPherson type front suspension, ESP, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and Peugeot Connect 3D multimedia system, JBL hi-fi system, Peugeot Connect USB box and Nappa integral leather trim on the interior.

Peugeot RCZ Roadster in the works

Peugeot RCZ Roadster in the works

After the French automaker Peugeot revealed the RCZ sports car coupe version at the Frankfurt Motor Show as an affront to compact sports car makers like Audi and their TT coupe, it was to be expected that the European lion would also be coming out with a competitor for the rag top roadster version as well. In a recent interview with Automobile MAgazinem a Peugeot official confirmed that the company is taking into consideration two alternative open air models for the future, being "a roadster version as a competitor for the Audi TT, but also a Targa variant in the spirit of the first 911."

Now we are all familiar with what an Audi TT looks like with its top down, but a Porsche Carrera Targa inspired sports coupe would be quite a fresh design. Unlike modern day Targa models that make use of an oversized sliding glass roof, the original features a removable roof panel. However where the old one was made of metal and rubber, a 21st century targa would have to make use of some lightweight carbon fiber and hopefully won’t lose any of the performance of its fixed roof brethren. The RCZ’s engine lineup will include a 1.6 Liter turbocharged direct gasoline injection engine that makes 200 HP as well as a standard 1.6 Liter boosted gas burning mill that makes 156 HP while there are also plans for a top of the line 2.0 Liter unit that will go well beyond the 200 HP barrier.

2010 Peugeot BB1

Get the Flash Player to see the videos.

The Frankfurt Motor Show has given the creative French automaker Peugeot the opportunity to unveil the innovative BB1 concept - a "full electric vehicle that reinvents the automobile in every way: architecture, style, interior design, drive, connectivity – while all the time respecting the environment."

Despite its rather small appearance, the BB1 is only 2.5 meters long, it can accommodate up to 4 passengers. The driver takes control of the BB! in a new more upright driving position, made possible through the absence of floor pedals. The rear passengers are then seated in tandem behind the driver. On the right-hand side, front and rear passengers adopt a similar position.

The BB1 is powered by an electric motor placed inside the rear wheels, designed in association with Michelin the unit delivers 20 HP and accelerates the BB1 from 0 to 30 KPH in 2.8 seconds, and from 30-60 KPH in 4. The power needed to turn the electric motor is provided by a lithium-ion battery pack that gives the passenger car an autonomy of 120 km.

Thanks to its electric propulsion, the BB1 is an environmentally friendly vehicle emitting no loud noises outside the vehicle as well as zero emissions. The lack of pollutant emissions is due to the fact that it consumes no fossil fuels at all. However this eco-responsibility isn’t limited to just wasting gas, the BB1 is so efficient that at a standstill, the passenger compartment is continuously ventilated thanks to the solar panels placed on the roof of the vehicle.

BMW and Peugeot in talks of another potential tie-up for MINI

BMW and Peugeot in talks of another potential tie-up for MINI

In a sign of the times, we’re all seeing automakers venturing into partnerships with other brands in an effort to curb costs and, at the same time, share technologies that could become beneficial to one another.

The latest alliance we’re hearing is between BMW and PSA Peugeot, which apparently are in talks regarding the prospect of sharing small car platforms in the future for a number of MINI variants with the PSA Peugeot Citroen. While full details behind this team-up are still clouded in mystery, it doesn’t come as a surprise to most of us considering that the two brands already have a history of partnerships, which includes sharing a number of four-cylinder engines for the MINI.

Unlike their relationships with other manufacturers, BMW and Renault have always considered themselves as friendly colleagues. Even their two big bosses, BMW’s Norbert Reithofer and PSA’s Philippe Varin have spent a number of days in the past few months chatting up one another on the prospects of future joint ventures between BMW and PSA.

So unless something unforeseen happens, we probably should start expecting more BMW and PSA tie-ups down the road. We’re not complaining. After all, two (car)heads are always better than one.

Peugeot RCZ sports coupe

Peugeot RCZ sports coupe

We’ve been on the lookout for any and all evidence of the Peugeot RCZ Sports Coupe being more than just a pipe dream and while we’ve seen some spy photos of the much-anticipated car, Peugeot hasn’t released the official photos of the car.

That is, of course, until now.

We’ve finally laid our eyes on Peugeot’s new sports car after two years when we first saw its concept version at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. Despite the fact that the car is barely visible from these promotional photos, the car didn’t seem to veer away from its original concept design, particularly the double-bubble rear windshield and roof panel.

The RCZ, which will be officially unveiled by the French automakers at the Frankfurt Motor Show, is more than likely to be outfitted with a twin-scroll turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that comes in a number of different variants, including one that comes with a 218hp engine.

2009 Peugeot 407 Coupe

Peugeot 407 Coupe

First revealed in 2005, the Peugeot 407 Coupe receives two new engines for the 2009MY: a V6 3.0 litre HDi PEF 241 bhp and 2.0 litre HDi PEF 163 bhp.

The new V6 HDi PEF 3.0-litre engine, coupled with a 6-speed sequential automatic gearbox, develops a maximum power output of 241 bhp at 3,800 rpm supplemented by maximum torque of 450 Nm from 1,600 rpm - a value which remains unchanged up to 3,600 rpm. With this engine, the 407 Coupé becomes the most powerful production vehicle ever constructed by Peugeot in its 120 years history as a car manufacturer.

The new 2.0-litre HDi PEF 163 bhp at 3,750 rpm is coupled with a 6-speed manual gearbox. With this power and a maximum torque of 340 Nm (constant between 2,000 and 3,000 rpm), this 4 cylinder engine is the perfect counterpart to the V6 HDi PEF and brings genuine appeal for its combined attributes in terms of purchase price, running costs and a top-of-the-range specification.
