pickup trucks

A pickup truck is a light truck with an open-top rear cargo area. Many pickups have short rigid sides and an opening rear gate, while others have a flat tray back.

Last year at the Geneva Motor Show Volkswagen was unveiling the Amarok Canyon - a very cool concept car that did quite an impression on customers. And due to this positive reaction Volkswagen decided to come with a production version Amarok Canyon. The new version will be put on sale in 2013 in limited numbers.

The new Canyon Special Edition is based on the Trendline specification and will be offered in "Copper Orange" paintwork, offered exclusively for this model, but a choice of ’Reflex Silver’, ’Natural Grey’ and ’Sand Beige’ is also available. The model will also be distinguished by darkened rear light clusters, wheel-arches in contrasting black, a redesigned styling bar, sill sidebars and rear bumper in gleaming black, plus a new roll cover. The model will be offered with standard 17" Roca alloy wheels, but a choice of 18" wheels is also available.

On the interior the model has received a matte chrome instrument panel, partially leather seats with two-tone coloring, a three-spoke leather steering wheel and a leather-covered gear lever.

Infiniti M

Just recently, we reported that Johan de Nysschen left Audi USA to head up Infiniti , and it appears he is already making some necessary changes. According to Car Sales, Nysschen confirmed that it, like many other automakers, is heading away from V-8 engine configurations to help reduced CO2 emissions and help it meet the anticipated CAFE standard of 54.5 mpg by 2025. He was quoted saying: “I don’t think any car that is on Infiniti drawing boards from here onwards we should expect a V8 to be included in that plan”

This means that models like the FX50 , M56 , and other V-8-powered Infinitis will opt for a turbocharged or supercharged V-6 or 4-cylinder engine. Ironically enough, the sister company of Nysschen’s former employer is going the exact opposite route, cutting out its turbocharged V-8 in favor of a V-12 configuration .

It is admirable seeing luxury automakers willing to take a step forward to help meet the needs of the world, as fuel prices continue to rise. This is a sharp contrast to his former employer stance, as Volkswagen has spoken out pretty harshly against these upcoming regulations and is one of only a handful of car manufacturers that has not signed the CAFE agreement. We wonder if this was a ideological difference that helped push Nysschen away from Audi and VW .

Keep an eye out for the next generation of Infiniti cars to be lacking the all mighty Nissan 5.6-liter V-8 engine and we are now awaiting Nissan to announce a similar changeover. This would entail changes to the Nissan Titan and NV van lineups. Ford has already shown that a turbocharged V-6 engine works great in a pickup truck and we’re sure it translates well to a van too.

Roush Performance, in cooperation with Greg Biffle, have developed a very cool Ford F-150 SVT Raptor, specially designed for the Sherwin-Williams Planet Color All-Star Charity Challenge. This Ford F-150 SVT Raptor will be put up against Toyota driver Clint Bowyer and his ’50s-style work truck based on the Tundra . The winner of the Charity Challenge will be determined once the F-150 custom truck heads to the Barrett-Jackson auction in Las Vegas in September. Bowyer’s Tundra was already auctioned for an impressive $100,000.

The F-150 Raptor will receive a TVS2300 supercharger that increases the output from the pick-up truck’s 6.2-liter V8 engine to an impressive 525 HP. Next to the supercharger, the tuner has also added a performance exhaust system, custom 18" wheels wrapped in 35-inch BFGoodrich tires, a TireGate tire carrier, and light bars at the front and rear.

The F-150 Raptor is painted in a cool red finish combined with some racing graphics that give the car a true racing look.

For most Americans, if you mention “Fall Guy” and “Volkswagen Amarok,” they have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. The former was a rather unpopular TV show that ran from November 4, 1981 through May 2, 1986 featuring a stuntman turned bounty hunter named Colt Seaver and the latter is a pickup truck that Volkswagen offers only in the European market. When you put the two together, you get the Volkswagen Amarok Colt Seaver Edition.

In the series, Colt Seaver drove a beat up 1980 GMC Sierra that was put through many suspension-breaking stunts and, much like General Lee on the Dukes of Hazzard, the Sierra never showed any signs of wear. Well, the theme of this one-off Amarok is the Sierra that Seaver beat the heck out of.

The Amarok Colt Seaver Edition receives its power from a 1,968 cc 4-pot engine that cranks out 163 PS (160 horsepower) at 4,000 rpm and 400 Nm (295 pound-feet) of torque at 1,500 to 2,000 rpm. What makes it like the Sierra that Seaver beat around is the fact that it boasts the same tan-on-brown paint scheme, brush bar, roll bar, and light bar that the Sierra boasted – scaled down to meet the Amarok’s compact size, of course. It also boasts a rather large “Fall Guy Stuntman Assoc” decal on its hood.

The truck itself actually looks rather neat with its lift kit, all-terrain tires, and classic paint job, but to name a special edition truck after a relatively unknown TV series from the `80s is strange. This becomes especially strange when you consider that the dealership building this truck is asking €51,695 ($62,700 at the current exchange rates) for it, which is just shy of three times the Amarok’s base price.

Here you go, take that ridiculous decal off of the hood and strip all ties to the TV show and it just may be worth the cash.

For those that don’t know the TV series (AKA most of America) click past the jump to see a video piecing together stunts from the show.

While most automakers take their new prototypes out for a testing session with hopes that no one will notice them, Chevrolet has decided to pitch us some official spy shot footage of the next generation Silverado pick-up. Gotta love when automakers go against the grain like this.

GM engineers are putting the next generation Chevrolet Silverado through the final paces at the company’s proving grounds in Yuma, Ariz. This water test is part of a rigorous product validation program that has helped make Silverado the most dependable, longest lasting full-size pickup.

The current Silverado has remained unchanged since 2007, but for the new generation, things will change significantly. As you can see, the prototype is heavily camouflaged so it’s pretty difficult to see what’s new, but as for the engine, rumors say that Chevrolet will use a new 3.6-liter V-6 engine with 300 HP, but a small block V8 is also under development.

The new Chevrolet Silverado will start production in 2013.

We’re not going to lie about the fact that we are big fans of the Ford F150 SVT Raptor . As we outlined in our review a couple of years back , the car is extremely fun to drive even if the whole concept of which it’s based around makes no sense.

Nevertheless, it seems fitting that one day this incredible off-roader would make its way into our ‘Photo of the Week’ article, and the following picture courtesy of GREATONE! finally has.

The F150 SVT Raptor as a standalone car is already something to behold, but this following example takes how love for the car to new extremes. Featuring an aggressive camo paint-job and some incredible ADV.1 wheels, this is undoubtedly one of the coolest Raptor’s you’re ever likely to see.

And as for the photo? Wow sums it up nicely.

Set in a rural environment which the F150 SVT Raptor calls home, the following picture helps to capture the true size of this beast. With the added bonus of the picture being offered in a range of sizes big enough for any computer, this week’s selection was the easiest thus far.

After being unveiled for the first time in 2010, the SVT Raptor is now entering its third year of production with higher levels of capability. While the majority of the SVT Raptor remains very similar to the 2012 model, Ford has tweaked it in a few places to make it more driver-friendly and more off-road capable. It’s hard to think that there is anything else that Ford could do to make the Raptor any more awesome, but apparently it found a few shortcomings in need of fixing.

The biggest change for the 2013 model year include the addition of a new set of forged-aluminum conventional wheels that can be upgraded after purchase to extra-capable bead-locks, but there also also a few more functional improvements.

What hasn’t changed is the power source. As usual, the 2013 F-150 Raptor will be offered exclusively with a 6.2-liter V8 engine that delivers a total of 411 HP and 434 lb.-ft. of torque and is mated to an electronic six-speed automatic transmission.

The 2013 Ford F-150 Limited will be distinguished by body-colored front and rear bumpers, front bumper valance, side-view mirror caps, wheel-lip molding, upper fascia, and grille surround. Chrome elements will be used for the bold three-bar grille, tie-down hooks lining the cargo box, the single tip of the tuned exhaust, and the tow hooks on 4x4 variants. After debuting the new 2013 F-150 , Ford is now offering a new F-150 Special Service Vehicle (SSV) Package aimed at government, municipal, and commercial fleets. The package will be offered for both SuperCab and SuperCrew configurations in both 4x2 and 4x4 models and can be ordered with either a 5.0-liter V8 or 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine combined with a fuel-saving six-speed automatic transmission.

The Ford F-150 equipped with the SSV package will be optimized for driver comfort, and has the seating package reduced by 20% in order to offer maximized space for in-cab aftermarket equipment such as law enforcement communications and firearms installations. The central console is omitted as well, creating even more space.

The seats for the driver and the first-row passenger are upholstered in easily cleaned cloth, while the second row seat is covered completely in rugged, durable vinyl, ideal for law enforcement use or work-crew transport. Also, depending on customer’s wishes, the model can be equipped with heavy-duty tires, 4x4 skid plates and interior convenience content.

With a history that started back in 1948, the Ford F-Series is now one of the best sold pick-ups on the US market. The model is currently in its twelfth generation and for the 2013 model year, it has been updated with a new design and all-new driver controls technology.

The 2013 F-150 has received an updated front end, with a new grille and HID projector headlamps. Under the hood, Ford has placed a choice of four engines: a 302 HP 3.7 liter V6, a 360 HP 5.0 liter V8, a 411 HP 6.2 liter V8, and a 365 HP 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine. All of the engines can be mated to a fuel-saving electronic six-speed automatic transmission with tow/haul mode.
