GTO - three legendary letters that started and defined a muscle car phenomenon in 1964. More than four decades later, the 2006 Pontiac GTO is the spiritual leader of modern muscle. For the ’06 model year, the GTO is distinguished by revised taillamp styling. The taillamp background is now gloss black instead of red. Two new colors - Fusion Orange and Spice Red - offer none-too-subtle choices for customers who want their Goat to stand apart from the crowd. There is also a new 18-inch wheel design with bright spokes that further identifies the ’06 model. As it was in the beginning, performance is at the heart of the Pontiac GTO. A 6.0-liter LS2 V-8 produces an impressive 400 horsepower (298 kw) and 400 lb.-ft. of torque (542 Nm). The Hydra-Matic 4L65-E four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission is standard, while a six-speed Tremec T56 manual transmission is optional. The awesome powertrain is capable of propelling the GTO form 0-60 in 4.7 seconds and 13-second quarter mile times. All that power is matched by the equally impressive stopping power from a four-wheel disc performance braking package featuring vented front rotors, solid rear rotors and bright red calipers with the GTO logo. A four-channel ABS system is standard. 35 comments: Pontiac GTOthanks AK i went and test drove one today and was very impressed.. especially since the price tag was only 23k and it was fully loaded.. the acceleration throws you’re head in your seat the torque steer wasn’t bad at all bc of the limited slip differential. overall i really liked the car alot. add a hood scoop. cold air intake and maybe swap the factory turbo for a greddy and i’ll be extremely happy Okay. 263 hp is very impressive for a front wheel drive car. Whats even more impressive is that this car’s fastest time was reported to be 5.4 seconds( official specs say 6to7) and it can run anwhere between 14 flat to 14.5 seconds, highly impressive considering that the WRX does the same. This car also has a great hatch design with a genuine leather interior and all the other features. That is also more than a 100hp/L which is more than many supercars can achieve nowadays. You can also do a lot of things with a front wheel drive car that you can never do on rear wheels or four wheels. Iam unfortunately, ignorant of the engine but a hood scope will improve the output. Its a well known fact that the 3 series are practical for daily drivers. But believe me, a 260+hp FF layered car is nothing to laugh at. Mazda 3 .... If you have seen the other cars in the price range, then I think the Mazdaspeed 3 will be the best choice. How much does it go for in the US? and what are the other cars in this pricerange?
AK whats you’re opinion on the new mazdaspeed 3... i’ve been considering it as a cheap car that i can mess around with and put some aftermarket on while keeping it as a decent daily driver... and also since the intercooler is top mounted on the engine it’d make sense to add an aftermarket functional hood scoop to increase a little power right? or would it be worth the money I know that but the point here is that this car goes around for somewhere near the same price as an EVO or a WRX. Now you could have this delivering 600hp which will be just enough to stop you from being busted by emissions laws in most countries. On the other hand you could have a WRX or an EVO delivering 400hp and it will beat the 600hp GTO anyday in any condition, the 0to60, 1/4 mile or a track race.
i wouldn’t try racing this against a quality 4 cylinder b/c this isn’t what you’d call a quality v-8... its actually one of the cheapest v-8s in a car out there... the definition of a quality v-8 would be a vette either standard or a Z06
