Porsche 911 (998) Carrera Cabrio first ever spy shot

We’re just getting settled with the latest update to the Porsche 911 (997) Carrera, but we also know the 998 is just around the corner. We’ve already seen the spy shot of the future Turbo version out for a little testing, and now we see the convertible testing to make sure the new top can handle the cold stuff.

What’s really great from this spy shot is the shape of the new convertible roof. The next 911 Cabriolet may use a lower and flatter roof, which is reminiscent of the 356 Speedster. How much will this drop-top take from the classic Porsche design? We should know by 2011 when this new 911 hits the streets.

Next-generation Porsche 911 (998) spied again

After you’ve seen spy images of the 998 Turbo and next generation Boxster, here’s new images of the next 911 set to be revealed in 2011.

As you can see from the spy pictures, the side air-intakes in front of the rear wheels are fakes – and so is the huge rear wing which hides the shape of the smaller spoiler of the standard 911s.

Compared to 997, on the 998’s front lights are standing more upright and the side mirrors have moved from the side window corner to the side of the door.

The 998 will still be powered by a water-cooled flat-six engine, only now the automatic transmission available will be the quick-shift PDK dual-clutch transmission. Expect the next generation 911 Turbo by 2011.

Porsche is preparing the next generation 911 (998) and the first test mule of the Turbo version has been spotted testing. The car will get the full 998 treatment including more upright headlights. One of the more peculiar elements from this spy shot is the door mirrors mounted directly on the door body, which has not yet been seen on any other 998.

Porsche will not stray far from the usual formula with the new turbo. It will still be powered by a water-cooled flat-six engine, only now the automatic transmission available will be the quick-shift PDK dual-clutch transmission. Expect the next generation 911 Turbo by 2011.

Porsche 998 911 mule spy shots

After unveiling the facelifted version of the 911 line-up, Porsche has started to work at the next generation Porsche 911, and here’s the first photos taken at a mule around the Nurburgring.

Even if the mule is wearing a 997 body work there are a few details showing we are actually looking at the next 998: the addition of blistered wheel arches hinting at a widened track and a makeshift wing providing additional downforce. Also the quad exhaust tips pulled from the Carrera S aren’t fitted as flush as the 997 model.

Audi has launched is new supercar, so it was more than normal for the new competitors to be announced. The first one is Porsche with the next generation 911. The first sketch of the 998 shows that the car will be a very amazing one! No there is only one question: if this car will go in production, if the final model will look like this, who will be able to compete with the next generation (...)
