Porsche is preparing a facelift for all the 911 models. The design will be inspired by the one used in the newly-launched Cayenne. The 2009 Carrera will compete with the latest model from Maserati, the GranTurismo, and also with the Aston Martin V8 and BMW M6.
The width of the car shows the difference: The most striking, eye-catching highlight of the 911 Carrera 4 and 911 Carrera 4S are the wheel arches flared out on each side by 22 millimetres or 0.87”, accommodating 295/35 ZR 18 tyres on the 911 Carrera 4 and 305/30 ZR 19 tyres on the 4S. Porsche will unveil a facelift Carrera S in 2009. The car will feature new quad-element HID headlamps nestled within the Carrera’s not-new ovoid surrounds. Beneath the familiar frog eyes are enlarged air intakes into which the turn signals are integrated (thankfully in a horizontal arrangement, as opposed to the fang-like design on the 2008 Cayenne). For the first time since 1977, the Porsche 911 Carrera now comes in two power versions with engines varying in size: the “basic" 911 Carrera displacing 3.6 litres and developing maximum output of 239 kW (325 bhp) at 6800 rpm, and the 911 Carrera S displacing 3.8 litres and with maximum output of 261 kW (355 bhp) at 6600 rpm. The 3.8-litre flat-six develops its maximum torque of 400 Newton-metres (295 lb-ft) at 4600 rpm, accelerating the Carrera S in 4.8 seconds from 0-60mph and ensuring a top speed of 293 km/h or 182 mph.
