Porsche announced plans to introduce a hybrid version of the Cayenne in 2005, three years after it had launched its sports SUV. A functioning vehicle was shown at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show, with the production version, dubbed S Hybrid, arriving three years later. Brought to the United States in late 2010, the S Hybrid was motivated by a supercharged, 3.0-liter, V-6, gasoline engine and an electric motor that cranked out a total of 380 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque. As the second-gen Cayenne received its facelift for the 2015 model year, the Germans announced the launch of the S E-Hybrid, a plug-in model set to replace the S Hybrid.

More powerful, fuel-efficient, and eco-friendly when compared to its predecessor, the S E-Hybrid is also the first plug-in hybrid in the premium-SUV segment. What’s more, the revised hybrid also enables Porsche to become the first manufacturer to sell three production plug-in hybrids. The Cayenne joins the plug-in version of the Panamera sports sedan and the 918 Spyder supercar.

Can we start calling for an investigation on the water Porsche Exclusive designers and engineers are drinking over there in Stuttgart? Are we sure that it’s not spiked with powers that make those who drink it impervious to fatigue? I only ask because Porsche Exclusive has released another personalized creation, this time for the Cayenne S E-Hybrid SUV. I’m kidding about the performance-enhancing water (PEW, as I’d like to call it), because I really am extraordinarily impressed by the quality and efficiency by which these vehicles are made.

The Cayenne S E-Hybrid is a particularly difficult model to personalize, mainly because it’s bigger than the Cayman and Boxster programs we’ve seen in the past month. But Porsche Exclusive designers apparently didn’t have any trouble working on the Cayenne. The proof, after all, is in the pictures. The numerous Porsche options added to the Cayenne emphasizes its sporty and muscular appearance.

Porsche has made no indication on whether this Porsche Exclusive program for the Cayenne S E-Hybrid is reserved for a single buyer, just an example piece or about to go on sale.

Porsche Exclusive is running out of models to work on. That appears to be the case after Porsche’s design division released a new program for one of its models, namely the Cayenne .

The new program is the latest in a series of models that Porsche has been working on. Remember the Porsche Cayman from a few weeks ago? This time, the Cayenne gets treated to a comprehensive exterior and interior upgrade, highlighted by the Palladium Metallic exterior paint finish.

The color is not dramatic to the point that its style and character changes, but it is significant enough to provide a new look to the luxury SUV. If anything, the gold touches on the body and wheels of the Cayenne S bring out a fresh and regal visual appeal to the mighty Porsche SUV .

I admittedly don’t own a Cayenne, but if I did, this is the kind of look I want it to have. It’s classy and flashy at the same time. More importantly, it’s indicative of what Porsche Exclusive can do when you let it run around and work on any model it likes.

Porsche was quite the busy bee in 2014. The brand-new Macan crossover was launched in the second quarter of the year, while a facelifted Cayenne surfaced a few months later. Additionally, Porsche is testing several updated sports cars , including the Boxster/Cayman duo, the 911 convertible and the upcoming GT3 RS . More recently, Porsche also brought the Cayenne GTS to the Nurburgring , signaling that its facelifted SUV lineup will soon include another member.

While the Germans unveiled the revamped Cayenne in July 2014, there was no word on the mid-level GTS and the range-topping Turbo S. The latter is still a well-guarded secret as of August 2014 — though we know we’ll get one at some point — but it seems development of the former is well underway with a prototype spotted trotting around the Nurburgring.

Details are slim as of this writing, but the video reveals Porsche has slapped a new set of bumpers on the GTS, along with the revised headlamps and taillights already seen on the 2015 Cayenne. A new exhaust system is present on the prototype as well, but the big news lies under the SUV’s hood. By the sound of it, the GTS is no longer motivated by the naturally aspirated, 4.8-liter V-8 that we all know and love. The Cayenne S has already ditched the large unit in favor of a twin-turbo, 3.6-liter V-6, and it appears the GTS did the same thing.

The unit delivers 420 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque in the Cayenne S, so it’s only natural to expect some extra oomph from the GTS-spec V-6. As usual, the SUV will include a tweaked suspension and interior upgrades.

The Porsche Cayenne crossed the Pond to the United States for the 2003 model year, right after the first-generation model was introduced in Europe. The S and the Turbo were the first versions to arrive in North American dealerships. The base V-6 model and the range-topping Turbo S followed up by 2006, when the entire Cayenne lineup became available to U.S. buyers. The second-generation SUV came to replace the first Cayenne in 2010, and brought to brand new models along with it. The lineup expanded to receive a hybrid model in 2011 and a diesel version in 2013, further increasing the SUVs popularity worldwide.

Going into 2015, the second-gen Cayenne is getting an extensive mid-cycle facelift that includes a lengthy list of visual changes, interior upgrades, and updated powertrains. Slightly more aggressive by design, the facelifted Cayenne is not only about added power. The second-generation SUV replaced the older model in 2010 and the lineup expanded to receive a hybrid model in 2011 and a diesel version in 2013. Rumors for the 2016 model year are pointing toward an X6-fighting coupe version of the Cayenne hitting the market.

2015 is set to bring a revised Cayenne to keep things fresh until 2018, when the next-gen model is scheduled to arrive, but a report coming from Auto Express says a new family member will hit the streets as soon as the facelifted model kicks in. We’re talking about the Cayenne Coupe , Porsche’s answer to the BMW X6 and the upcoming Mercedes-Benz MLC .

Stuttgart’s plan to come up with a coupe-like SUV isn’t new to us. A previous report introduced the Cayenne Coupe to the rumormill and forwarded a 2017 launch. On the flip side, the new report talks about a 2015 introduction, which would make more sense considering BMW just rolled out the second-gen X6 and that the Mercedes-Benz MLC will make its debut later this year. That being said, it appears Porsche wants to launch the coupe alongside the facelifted Cayenne.

It may sound like a rushed decision, but turning the Cayenne Coupe from a mere sketch to a production car shouldn’t be a major issue with Porsche, as the sporty SUV will look identical to its full-size kin, except for its sloping roof. Once the new roof is ready to take its place atop the Cayenne Coupe, Porsche will only have to focus the vehicle’s retuned suspension and steering.

Naturally, the coupe will borrow all the powertrains available in the regular Cayenne, including both naturally aspirated and turbo V-8s, as well as gasoline and diesel V-6s.

The Porsche Cayenne arrived in America for the 2003 model year in the S and Turbo trims, and the base V-6 model and the Turbo S followed them up in 2004 and 2006, respectively. In 2010, the second-gen Cayenne made its way to the market with a lower nose and a more raked D-pillar, giving is a smaller appearance. Despite the smaller look, it was actually slightly larger than the first generation — it also weighed 400 pounds less. As the years went on a hybrid model joined the team in 2011 and a diesel model in 2013. Rumors in June 2014 point toward the third-generation Cayenne hitting the streets in 2017, which will make it a 2018 model year in the U. S. of A.

According to the reports, which we translated from German, the third-generation Cayenne will not undergo a huge makeover, but it will receive some minor visual changes, some new colors on the inside and out, new wheel options, a new steering wheel, a more 918-like cabin, and an extra 20 horsepower for the GTS trim, taking it to 440 ponies.

One of the biggest changes will be the adoption of a new, high-floor Audi chassis that is called the MLBevo — it is essentially an enhanced version of the existing MLB chassis. This new underpinning will change the positioning of the engine, thus changing the weight distribution — hopefully not for the worse — axle-to-firewall distance, seat positioning and suspension kinematics. Unfortunately Autobild did not give us specifics as to what we can expect from these changes.

Porsche will also send the Cayenne to fat camp, where it will live on a steady diet of aluminum, dropping its curb weight by about 660 pounds.

Under the hood, the Cayenne will carry a 4.0-liter V-8 and 3.6-liter V-8, but Porsche will re-tune the latter to deliver more power and efficiency than the current version. You can also expect a fuel-sipping, 2.9-liter V-6 with a pair of turbos, and V-8 and V-6 diesel powerplants — I suspect the V-8 will be a Europe-only engine.

Speaking of fuel efficiency, the rumors also point toward a pair of plug-in hybrid drivetrains, one with a world-traveling 3.0-liter and one with a Europe -only diesel V-6. These will likely come a year after the debut of the third-generation Cayenne.

It’s been about three months since the 2015 Porsche Cayenne revealed its facelifted front end, and we are finally able to have a closer, all-around look at the updated SUV , as our skilled spy photographers caught a pair of test vehicles wandering about somewhere in Germany.

As we’ve previously noted, the Cayenne ’s new face is distinguished by a more rectangular grille and slightly smaller side air inlets. The turn signals are now placed upward into the bumper, being mounted right above the air intakes, while the fog lamps gained reshaped surrounds. The headlamps have also been subjected to a redesign, but the new units aren’t too different when compared to the old ones.

Around back, the only noticeable novelties are the reworked bumper, the enlarged exhaust pipes and a new pair of taillights. The latter are still hidden behind semitransparent plastic wraps, but it appears that they are slightly slimmer as far as shape goes.

Our paparazzi weren’t able to zoom their lenses into the cabin, but it’s not like they missed anything. We don’t expect major improvements in the facelifted Cayenne aside from a reconfigured steering wheel and additional trimming options.

More important changes are likely to occur under the hood of the Cayenne S, where a twin-turbo, 3.0-liter V-6 engine rated around 420 horsepower is set to replace the current 4.8-liter V-8. Naturally, both the entry-level diesel and the range-topping Turbo models are in for power output updates, while the hybrid version will borrow the gasoline-electric drivetrain available in the Panamera S E-Hybrid .

With Mercedes-Benz already testing the production version of its brand-new Concept Coupe SUV , we were wondering which automaker will jump on the coupe-like crossover bandwagon next. Well, it appears that the BMW X6 ’s second competitor will also spawn from Stuttgart, the city that’s home to the headquarters of both Mercedes and Porsche .

The latter company, who has reached great automotive heights since it launched the Cayenne , is reportedly planning on expanding that model’s lineup by adding a sportier, coupe -like SUV . The vehicle will carry the Cayenne Coupe moniker and will look identical to its full-size cousin, save for a fast, sloping roof line, Autocar reports.

Naturally, the interior will also be shared with the regular Cayenne, as will the V-6 and V-8 engines, but it’s too early to speculate on any of those matters as the Coupe won’t arrive until the third-generation Cayenne is launched sometime in 2017. The Coupe is rumored for a 2018 introduction, allowing the Germans to expand production capacity at their Leipzig facility, without which the new SUV couldn’t be built alongside the best-selling Cayenne.

"We have been considering launching a more sporting derivative of the Cayenne for some time now. The problem has been the production capacity at our Leipzig factory and the strong sales of the regular Cayenne," an unnamed senior Porsche official told Autocar, adding that the Cayenne Coupe has yet to receive the green light.

When it arrives, the brand-new sports utility coupe is likely to be priced around 15 to 20 percent higher than the current Cayenne, which fetches at least $49,600.

Just the other day, we caught the 2015 Cayenne having a Marilynn Monroe moment, as a gust of wind blew the cover off of its front end. That was the first really good look that we got at the front end of the Cayenne , but now we get a nice sneak peek at the Turbo model’s front end, as our spy shooters caught it out and about.

With the exception of the whistle from the engine, the only other ways to tell this is a Turbo model and not the standard Cayenne are the rims, the extensions on the bumpers and the fog lights up front.

just like the standard Cayenne that we caught recently, the Turbo model’s front end is in full view, but the back end still has its lights hidden by covers. These covers, which are the shape of the taillights on the current Cayenne, hide slimmer taillights that are similar to those we’ve seen on the Macan , Panamera and 911 .

Under its hood, we expect the Cayenne Turbo to feature the same 520 horsepower, 4.8-liter V-8 as the Panamera Turbo.
