Porsche 911 Turbo will get tri-turbo system

1.

Following the spy shots revealed yesterday of the upcoming Porsche 911 Turbo playing in the snow is a fantastic bit of news about what it will be carrying under that luscious hood. Turns out, the 911 Turbo will be powered by a 3.8 liter, horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine, but not equipped with a twin-turbo system as one would expect. Instead, Porsche is following in BMW’s footsteps by offering a tri-turbo system.

This system is currently in the final phase of development and, according to the first details, will help raise the engine’s output from the current 495 HP to somewhere in the region of 525 HP — or the same as that of the current 911 Turbo S. It will include the usual twin turbochargers found in the current engine, but will get a smaller unit mounted close to the engine to boost low-end response. This system will also improve fuel economy and reduce CO2 emissions.

Once this tri-turbo system is complete, not only will it fit in with the 911 Turbo, but will also get dropped in the next-generation 911 GT2 and GT2 RS.

Lately, all of Europe has been under piles of snow and, for some automakers, this means that it’s the perfect time to test the capabilities of their newest models. The upcoming Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe is now joining the long list of models taken out to play in the snow. Although the model has dropped some of its camouflage since the last time it was caught on camera, the bumpers and the air intakes on the side are still well hidden, completely hiding their real shape.

Just like the standard 911, the new Turbo version will adopt a sportier appearance, as well as a powerful engine. It will be powered by a 3.8-liter flat-six engine that will deliver about 550 HP. The engine will be mated to an improved manual gearbox as standard, or an optional PDK gearbox. The PDK will have with no less than seven forward gears, combining the driving comfort of a converter automatic transmission with the dynamic gearshift of a sequential racing gearbox. The Porsche will also feature brake regeneration and stop start systems.

The new Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe is expected to make its world debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show in March and go on sale later in the year.

2013 Porsche Boxster Turbo

porsche boxster turbo picture

Porsche’s plans for building a baby Boxster were unceremoniously put on hold when the company decided that the current generation wouldn’t appreciate a smaller sports car. Having the baby model put aside for the time being left many wondering what vehicle would take its place. A smaller Boxster is out of the question, but what about a Boxster Turbo instead?

Milanno Artworks took to the drawing board after this revelation of sorts and came up with this image of what a Boxster Turbo could look like. The rendering shows off a redesigned front bumper following the Turbo philosophy from other Porsche models, Turbo-style side intakes that have Turbo styling as well, a carbon fiber bumper, LED daylights, black wheels, black mirrors, and a black windshield frame. The interior looks to have received different elements in Piano Black, brushed aluminum, and Alcantara.

Considering the current Boxster S features a 3.4 liter flat-six engine with 315 HP, it would be cool to see around 350 HP shooting out of a Turbo model.

Now that we have seen the new generation Porsche 911, in both coupe and convertible versions, its time to put our imagination to work and to bring you some details about the upcoming 911 Turbo Cabrio. The New Porsche 991 will be around for 14 years

3.

The Porsche 911 has had many illustrious and iconic generations, but the newest 911/991 is about to break the record for the longest 911 generation to date. Most 911 generations were only offered for about three to six years, but the 2012 911/991 will be around for two seven-year lifecycles and kept alive by a number of variations.

The first model to grace us with its presence after the standard 911 Carrera will be the 911 Cabriolet set to be revealed at the beginning of 2012. Following that will be the four-wheel-drive versions, the Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S, in December 2012. These models will mark the end of the current 3.4-liter direct-injection engine as it will only be available in the first 18 months of production. After that, standard 911 models will get a 3.8-liter engine delivering a total of 400 HP.

After the engine switch, the next model to present itself will be the 911 Turbo which will arrive in 2013. This model will get a 520 HP 3.8-liter flat engine and will be followed by the GT3 set to arrive in the same year. The GT3 variant will be powered by a high-revving normally-aspirated flat six. A Targa and a Speedster version will also be offered, with a Hybrid variant being a strong possibility.

As previously mentioned, the 911 will be offered for 14 years in two lifecycles. It will get a facelift after seven years of production.

2011 Porsche 911 Turbo by TechArt

To be the best, you have to go up against the best. So when TechArt wanted to make over the Porsche 911 Turbo, they set their sights on the 0-60 mph time of the Bugatti Veyron.

Equipped with a TechArt power kit, the 911 Turbo’s 3.8 liter six-cylinder biturbo engine was provided with an extra 200 HP and 169 lb-ft of torque, giving the sportscar a total of 700 HP and 649 lb-ft of torque. Unfortunately, that massive increase still falls short of the 0-60 mph time for the Veyron (2.6 seconds), but not by much. The result of these changes are breathtaking nonetheless with a 0-60 mph time of 2.8 seconds, a 0 to 124 mph time of 9 seconds, and an incredible top speed of 218 mph.

In addition to the TechArt power kit, the tuning firm also armed the Porsche 911 Turbo with a sport air filter, TechArt manifolds, TechArt Turbo chargers VTG, TechArt high performance intercoolers, and a carbon fiber TechArt engine styling package.

2013 Porsche 911 Turbo rendered

Now that we have officially seen the new generation Porsche 911, we can easily imagine how the most powerful version in the line-up will look like. And this is exactly what WildSpeed did. He took the current Carrera and made it more aggressive and sportier and came out with a pretty impressive rendering of the next generation 911 Turbo.

The next 911 Turbo will be featuring a wider, more aggressive body and bigger bumpers, an active aero rear spoiler and some influences from the 918 Concept.

Rumors suggest that the 911 Turbo will be powered by a 3.8-liter flat-six engine pumping out about 550 HP. This engine will be combined with Porsche’s newest technologies, including brake regeneration and stop start systems which will help reduce fuel consumption by about 12%.

The new 911 Turbo will go on sale in late 2012. The Ferrari 458 Italia will have for sure lots of reasons to fear about.

2013 Porsche 911 Turbo Convertible

With the recently unveiled Porsche 911/991 in tow, our spy photographers have moved on to the new generation sportcar’s variants to keep us entertained. The new Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe and Cabrio will be unveiled at next year’s Geneva Motor Show, but recent spy shots, as well as previous hot weather testing shots, can provide a good look into the future of Porsche Turbo.

Our newest spy shots of the Porsche 911 Turbo Cabrio come to us from the famed Nurburgring race track where the vehicle was taking some laps with the top closed. Expect the future Turbo Coupe and Cabrio models to be powered by the same 3.8L turbocharged flat six engine, but massaged to deliver more than the current 500 HP for the standard Turbo and 530 HP for the Turbo S. Following along the lines of the new 911, the Turbo variants should receive auto start/stop, thermal management, electrical system recuperation, and the world’s first seven-speed manual transmission or the optional Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) to boost that horsepower right up to about 515 HP for the Turbo and 550 HP for the Turbo S. Rumors are also circulating that the new PDK-S dual clutch transmission may find its way into the Turbo models before it debuts in the next generation 911 GT3. With the use of these power-boosting additions, the Turbo models’ fuel consumption and emissions are also expected to be lowered. The 911/991 received a drop of up to 16% for the Carrera and 14% for the Carrera S.

In addition to the changes in power, the Porsche 911 Turbo Cabrio will obviously be differentiated from the Coupe with the use of a soft top. Wider rear fenders, additional cooling vents, and a new active rear spoiler will also make an appearance.

Stay tuned as we uncover more details on the 2013 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabrio.

Spy Shots: 2013 Porsche 911 Turbo Takes Its Top Off!

After Porsche took the future 911 Turbo out for a little test session, they then proceeded to do the same with the Cabrio. Lucky for us, the spy photographers were at the right place at the right time to catch the prototype during its hot weather testing. Considering the bright sunshine, there was only one way to test the Cabrio; with the top down.

Besides the exchange of hard top for soft top, the Porsche 911 Turbo Cabrio will have the same features as the Coupe. Expect to see the same 3.8-liter flat-six engine with an output of about 550 HP combined with the Porsche-Doppelkupplung (PDK) gearbox, brake regeneration, and stop start systems to help reduce fuel consumption by about 12%.

The new Porsche Turbo will make its world debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, after the new 911 makes its very own world debut in September 2011 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Sales will begin later on in the year.
