2011 Porsche Panamera Turbo Safety Car

  Review

If earlier today BMW announced their 1-Series M Coupe Safety Car for the Moto GP events, Porsche announced that a Panamera will also be used as a Safety Car, but this time for the 2011 American Le Mans Series. The safety car is of course based on the most powerful version - the Turbo, a model powered by a 4.8-liter twin turbocharged V8 engine that delivers a total of 500 HP. While all we have on the car is a first image, we expect to see several modifications made in order to adopt the car’s specifications to the racing series.

"The Porsche Panamera gives us an official safety car unmatched in motorsports," Ed Triolo, ALMS VP of Marketing and Brand Development said. "This reinforces the commitment and partnership between the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón and Porsche, one of the world’s greatest sports cars that has had extraordinary success in the ALMS and IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama. It is a perfect fit."

They really are making these races all the more interesting. Before, you will only see the more common cars being used as on track vehicles. Now they are using the higher end ones.

Yeah, I agree with you that the Panamera is a good choice for this one. The car is really highly adaptable and will be able to take the challenge of running as a safety car.

That’s definitely one great way to make use of a Panamera. I wonder if BMW would be making other special use versions of this car, a Panamera police car will certainly be be a good idea.

Hehehe!, that sure is one classy choice for a safety car. But it is really not that surprising, since the safety car also needs to be reliable, which is why the Panamera a good pick.

They’re actually used a Panamera for this one. Nice choice for a safety car really, since this is known for its nimbleness, which is very ideal for handling the tasks on the track.

This the safety car? Actually looks more like a rally car to me. But I do like the work that they have put into this one, especially that they have improved the performance.

Well, i think safety would be the first thing to be considered when choosing a car. Anti- lock brake system and air bags are just some example of safety feature of a car.

For a safety car, this one actually looks good. I really have this notion that such cars need not to be good looking, since their main duty is to simply signal the race cars.
