For Porsche, the Speedster name has a special meaning. The name first appeared on the Porsche 356->ke666 and that car made the name a legend. Original 356 Speedsters are now some of the most valuable classic Porsches.

In more recent years, the Speedster name has been linked to the 911. These special-edition cars were sold in limited numbers to help keep them as exclusive as possible in the 1980's and 1990's.

The cars picked up on features from the original such as a low-roof line and they added in a body colored rear fiberglass cover. These cars were great for sunny areas, but the tops are known to allow some water leakage and excessive wind noise, so they aren't that great in rainy weather or for extended highway driving. The possibility of water getting into the cabin is so great that Porsche actually made buyers agree to this fact when buying the car.

The looks of the 911 Speedster are unique and eye catching, but what if you want this look in a new 911 (991) with a much better top? Well, DeLaVilla may have the solution for you, as it has created a kit that can turn the 991 Cabriolet into a Speedster. They call this conversion the SpeedRoad.

The car retains the stock engine, so it will still provide you with 350 horsepower found in the standard Carrera form or 400 horsepower in the S model. Handling and brakes all stay the same as the stock car, so you will still have the great Porsche driving package that you had when you first bought the car.

The Front View

From the front, the SpeedRoad retains the looks of 911 Carrera. You still get those seductive lines of the rounded fenders and the sloped hood. The stock stance and front bumper are also retained.

The Rear View

When you take a look at the rear of the car, you really notice the changes. Instead of seeing the standard 911 Cabriolet cover, you see a body-colored, molded cover. The cover changes the lines of the normal cabriolet to give it that Speedster feel. This new panel gives the car a sleek look with its smooth, curved side lines and angular humps that outline each seat. The lights and bumper are stock, so they retain their original 911 shape.

The Profile View

From the profile, the front portion of the car looks the same as the standard car, but when you get towards the rear you start to realize that this is no normal 991 Cabriolet. You'll notice that the rear seats appear to be missing and instead a body panel is in their place. The panel looks like it is right from the factory and somewhat resembles the rear end of the Porsche Boxster Spyder.

The Top

The best part of the SpeedRoad is that you get the Speedster look, but without sacrificing the nice top in the 991 Cabriolet. Under the added body panel is the standard top and the panel is easily removed. This also means that you still have the rear seats available, if you ever need them, by simply removing the body cover.

Availability

The SpeedRoad Speedster 991 conversion concept was shown at the Top Marques exhibit in Monaco->ke1414 and should be available for sale later in 2013.
