The link between Brumos and Porsche dates back to the 1950s, when it was one of the first Porsche dealers to purchase cars from Porsche of America. In the 1960s, Brumos, under the direction of its new owner, took the company from a dealership to the top of the racing world with its high-performance Porsches.

Brumos went on to become one of the most successful racing teams in road racing history and in Porsche history. In 2011, Brumos had yet another great racing season, taking home the Rolex GRAND-AM GT Championship and adding to its legacy. In commemoration of this victory, Brumos is having five special edition 2012 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup racecars manufactured and they will offer them for sale in their dealership in Jacksonville, FL.

This just isn’t any old GT3 Cup car that a racing team can order from Porsche. This one is special in many ways, including a nice bump in power and some special styling specially ordered by Brumos. The big question is whether this is a true performer on the track or if this is nothing more than a pretty trailer queen to haul to car shows.

Pros
Cons

Exterior

On the outside, the Brumos Racing Edition Porsche 911 GT3 Cup will look just like the one that won the Rolex GRAND-AM GT Championship. It will boast the same coat of white paint and livery – decals, stickers, etc. – that the Brumos 911 wore in that championship run.

On the rear end, you are going to get the large spoiler that you would have seen on the 2011 Brumos Porsche 911 with polished uprights – the vertical panels on each end of the spoiler. To help protect the paint, this 911 will come with a DigiShield cover on the front bumper and hood. A DigiShield is a thick rubberized film that sticks to the paint to help resist chips in the paint from rocks and other debris.

Interior

On the inside, you are getting just what you’re paying for, a racecar. There is not much information given on the interior, but we do know that it will feature a carbon fiber dead pedal, a carbon fiber floorboard, and a carbon fiber dashboard that houses a Motec display.

We can also safely assume that this model will come with only a single racing seat, racing steering wheel, and a 5-point raging harness. There will also be a roll cage installed from the factory.

Engine and Drivetrain

To avoid giving too much information to competitors, Porsche kept the drivetrain outline understandably bland in its press release. The 2012 Brumos Racing Edition Porsche 911 GT3 Cup will boast a 4.0-liter 6-cylinder racing engine built by Porsche Motorsport North America builds for Grand-Am teams. This engine will pump out over 450 horsepower, but remains eligible for competition in SCCA, Porsche Club of America, and Porsche Owner’s Club competitions. Though its horsepower is lower than a stock 911 GT3 RS 4.0, this special edition 911 gets its performance increase from additional torque. Unfortunately, Porsche did not make the precise torque number available.

The transmission, which no real specifics are offered on, features a blipper system, which uses a series of solenoids to allow its driver to downshift without using the clutch. This not only decreases shifting time, but also prevents traction loss in wet conditions.

When Can I Get One?

Unfortunately, there is no concrete release date, which will make snagging up one of these five special edition 911s very difficult.

Pricing

These five special edition racecars will go for a whopping $265,259, plus tax, which is an $80,259 bump over the 2012 GT3 RS 4.0’s base MSRP. That’s quite a hefty markup, but you are getting a one-of-five special edition racecar, so what price were you really expecting?

Conclusion

It is very unfortunate that Porsche had to keep these special edition cars’ performance numbers and specifications somewhat under wraps to protect its racing teams. Even with the numbers being obscured or completely unavailable in many cases, we still find this special edition 911 GT3 Cup car extremely intriguing and worth every last penny, especially for an avid racer looking to move up the ranks.
