The Porsche 911 started its run back in 1963 - and oh what a run it is -, but it wasn’t until 1999 that a GT3 version was offered up for our ravenous consumption. It came to complete the series of performance vehicles that started back in 1973 with the 911 RS, a model that was capable of sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds and to 100 mph in 13 seconds. Why the short history lesson? Well, the new generation GT3 is ready to break cover in the next couple of years and rumors about the sports car are already beginning to sprout. These rumors suggest that the new GT3 will be host to a 4.0L engine and not the 3.8L naturally-aspirated six cylinder engine where it gets its name. We are assuming that if the GT3 ends up with this engine change, we’ll also be looking at a new name for the vehicle, but that’s all speculation at this point. What we do know is that the next GT3 will be lighter than the current generation, but according to Porsche CEO Matthias Muller, it will not be using Porsche’s new 7-speed PDK transmission. Exterior and InteriorLike with all the other models in the 911 model, the GT3 will get a new exterior design language, but Porsche’s main focus on the vehicle will be to reduce the car’s overall weight. It will be 180-200 lbs lighter than the current model thanks to the use of composites. The EngineWhile we don’t know what engine the next GT3 will be using, we do know the output will be somewhere near 480 HP. We also know that the engine will be mated to Porsche’s now famous PDK gearbox that will help in improving fuel economy. Another thing we know is that, while other models may get hybrid technology, it will not be applied to the GT3. According to Porsche, this doesn’t fit the GT3 motif. 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 When Can I Buy One?The GT3 will be one of the last models to be revealed with the new generation 911, so we don’t expect to see it on the market before 2013. The CompetitionDespite the impressive updates announced for the next GT3, it will still have a very long list of competitors to defeat: the 2012 Nissan GT-R, the new Mercedes SLS AMG, and the Ferrari 458 Italia. All of these models are serious competitors that should definitely be taken under consideration. The 2012 GT-R is powered by a 3.8-liter V6 twin turbo engine that delivers 530hp at 6,400rpm. Nissan has announced that it will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 3 seconds. The SLS AMG is powered by a 6.3-liter V8 engine that develops 571 hp and up to 650 Nm of torque. The sprint from 0-60 mph is made in 3.7 seconds. The Ferrari 458 Italia is powered by a 4.5 Liter V8 engine that produces 570 HP and a sprint from 0-60mph in just 3.4 seconds. Whatever engine is placed under the hood of the new generation GT3 will definitely have to be able to deliver some serious horsepower. 8 comments: Porsche 911 GT3 For me nad my first instinct, this porsche 911 is good to me. The design, style are so good. The performance is good also. It’s my opinion.
For the first time, the GT3 also gets stability control in the form of a specially calibrated Porsche Stability Management system that allows you to turn off the stability control alone or the stability control and traction control together.
Another new option is a front-axle lifting feature, which raises the car’s front end by 1.2 inches when you press a button on the dash.
Tuning package is available in three levels of power – 750, 850 and 1000 hp. 750 hp version develops 850 Nm of torque, the 850 hp offers 910 Nm and the top of the range is 1000 hp and 940 Nm
We are assuming that if the GT3 ends up with this engine change, we’ll also be looking at a new name for the vehicle, but that’s all speculation at this point.
