Competition

Mercedes CLS 63 AMG 4MATIC

The 2014 CLS 63 AMG is powered by a 5.5-liter, V-8 engine that delivers a total of 550 horsepower and 531 pound-feet of torque. This is a little less than the new Panamera Turbo S, but its 0-to-60 mph sprint time of 3.7 seconds is in line with the Executive version.

The CLS 63 AMG has a huge advantage of being considerably cheaper than the Panamera at only $99,500.

Aston Martin Rapide S

Rapide S is a competitor with a nearly identical horsepower and price. It is powered by a naturally-aspirated 6.0-liter, V-12 engine that delivers a total of 558 horsepower at 6,750 rpm and a peak torque of 457 pound-feet delivered at 5,000 rpm. The deficiency in torque -- 96 pound-feet without overboost and 133 pound-feet with the Panamera's overboost -- really drags down its sprint times, as it takes 4.9 seconds to hit 60 mph. That's a snail's pace in relative to the Panamera Turbo S.

Prices are also in the $200k area.

Conclusion

With the extra power in tow, the new Panamera Turbo S is aiming for customers looking for a high-end luxury sedan that delivers huge amounts of luxury, but that can also throw down with a supercar now and again. It looks like Porsche definitely hit the nail squarely on the head with this one.
