Forza 4 to release new pack containing ALMS race cars

Leave it to Forza 4 to give us even more reason to love this game. Fresh off of releasing a new downloadable content just a week ago, Turn 10 Studios has announced that another pack will be released on February 7th, one that includes past and present ALMS race cars.

The pack, deliberately called the "American Le Mans Series Pack," will include some of the finest ALMS machines we’ve ever seen, including the legendary 1991 Mazda 787B, the Platinum Motorsport Bentley Continental GT, the 1992 Alfa Romeo 155 Q4, the 1995 Ford Mustang Cobra R, and yes, even last year’s title-winning race car, the Audi R18 TDI.

Just like the February Launch Bonus Pack, the ALMS Pack will come with a total of ten cars, and will cost you 560 Microsoft Points when it hits Xbox Live next week.

We don’t need to remind you that this is one pack that you shouldn’t miss. But just to be sure, we’re here to say that THIS IS ONE PACK THAT YOU SHOULDN’T MISS!

Glad we got that straightened out.

2012 Ferrari F2012 Formula 1 Race Car

ferrari f2012 formula 1 race car picture

A few days after McLaren F1 presented their 2012 Formula One race car, the MP4-27, the Prancing Horse from Maranello has decided to unveil their 2012 F1 race car. Called the F2012, the race car is the fifty eighth F1 car Ferrari has ever built, and is arguably the most advanced race car it has ever developed.

As far as all the changes that have been done to the car to accommodate for new regulations, the F2012 was fundamentally and meticulously revised, most specifically the height of the front section of the chassis, the position of the exhaust pipes, and the re-tweaking of the car’s electronic engine management system.

According to the folks over at Ferrari, the F2012 comes with a revised suspension lay-out with both the front and rear ends featuring pull-rods that were designed to improve the car’s overall aerodynamic performance. The F2012 also comes with a stepped nose that was designed to follow new requirements set out to lower the front end of the car, while the front wing was developed from the one that was used in the 150º Italia - last year’s F1 race car.

Other important modifications include a redesigned side that improves the car’s side impact structures. Similarly, the radiators on the race were also repositioned while the lower part of the rear of the car was designed to be narrower and more tapered, allowing for improved aerodynamics and mechanical enhancements. Last, the rear wing is also similar to the one used in the 150 Italia and is still fitted with a drag reduction system.

As far as the engine on the car is concerned, the F2012 will carry a revised version of the 150 Italia’s 2.4-liter V8 engine to accommodate new technical regulations that are being enforced for the 2012 season. Ferrari will also be using the KERS system, which maintains its low location in the car while also cutting down on its weight and improving its overall efficiency.

Now that McLaren has successfully bought back the remaining shares held by Daimler, the company is on a mission to excel in their future endeavors. This video was created to show the direction the company is taking to ensure that success.

It touches on the success the company has had in Formula One racing, but the company’s most recent achievement has to be the MP4-12C supercar. So, what will the future bring for McLaren? As far as we know, there will be a Spyder version of the MP4-12C, a new successor for the legendary F1 supercar - rumored to be called MP4-27 - and a 2+2 version for the MP4-12C. All of these new models are set to arrive in the next 2-3 years!

At a meeting at the McLaren headquarters in Woking, Surrey, McLaren chairman Ron Dennis stated: “We’re a relentlessly competitive entity, bred on high-performance and determined to bring to market ground-breaking products and solutions that are set apart by their top quality and dependence on totally unique and highly innovative steps in performance. McLaren has unveiled their new MP4-27 Formula 1 Race Car that will be used during the 2012 FIA Formula 1 World Championship. This year, the car will be driven by the two world champions: Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton.

The new MP4-27 is a natural evolution of last year’s six-race-winning car, but it has received a number of modifications in order to comply with the new FIA regulations. The 2012 chassis has been substantially revised from the ground-up, with all major systems updated or re-designed for the new season. The racing car has also received more tightly waisted rear bodywork, developed to improve flow to the rear of the car, and a revised cooling system, which re-directs the gearbox oil-cooler. The U-shaped sidepods from last year’s model have also been re-designed due to the new exhaust regulations.

The McLaren MP4-27 Formula 1 Race Car will begin testing on Tuesday February 7th, 2012 at Spain’s Circuito de Jerez with Jenson Button behind the wheel.

Ferrari P4/5 Competizione May Go Hybrid

It has been quite some time since we last heard anything about the amazing Ferrari P4/5 Competizione, but today rumors took root on the web that piqued our interest. According to RacingWorld.de, the supercar will be making another appearance at this year’s 24 hours of Nürburgring, but this time, it will combine a hybrid drive system with a 4.0L V8 engine.

At this point, there aren’t many details available, but it is believed that the V8 engine will be assisted by a Magneti Marelli electric motor that will add another 80 HP. If it is being matched up with the V8 from the one and only P4/5 Competizione, then we’re looking at 563 HP. This change will improve the car’s lap time by about six seconds. In fact, this new hybrid system is very similar to the KERS system used in the Toro Rosso and Red Bull Formula 1 cars.

Whether or not this engine modification will be combined with exterior upgrades is yet unknown, but we’ll keep our eyes and ears open. Stay tuned!
