In 2013, Land Rover introduced a totally new generation of its flagship Range Rover and Range Rover Sport SUVs. The brand is known to produce some of the finest premium off-road luxury vehicles in the world and it did not come as a surprise to us when the world bestowed it with praise, as has been the case with Land Rovers historically.

Yes, the Range Rover has grown into a mature off-road vehicle and is in league of its own, when it comes to luxury motoring. While, the Range Rover sits at the top of the food chain, its smaller sibling, the Range Rover Sport , has had its fair share of successes. MotorTrend magazine honored the RR Sport with the coveted ’SUV of the Year’ and now Four Wheeler Magazine has awarded the Range Rover Sport with "Four Wheeler of the Year" for 2013.

This is the third time a Land Rover SUV has won this award after intense and grueling testing both on tarmac and on rugged terrain designed to test the off-road capabilities of the vehicle.

"It is a great achievement for the very luxurious and performance oriented Range Rover Sport to be named ’Four Wheeler of the Year,’ by the country’s oldest four-wheel drive enthusiast publication," said Kim McCullough, Brand Vice President, Land Rover North America.

Big, bad and ready to rumble, this Land Rover Range Rover means all sorts of business. And then some.

In some respects, that’s what you expect from an aftermarket company like Arden, which has specialized in these types of programs for Range Rovers. It’s latest take is no different, and yet when you take into account the kind of performance upgrade it gave the SUV , you stand and wonder if it could’ve been more.

That’s the respect we have for Arden.

But hey, this tuning program is still a whale of an upgrade, something Arden achieved by giving the Range Rover a supercharger kit, a new sport catalytic converter, an optimized ECU unit and a high-performance exhaust system. Considering that the standard Range Rover’s 5.0-liter, V-8 engine can produce a tight 510 horses and 461 pound-feet of torque, it’s an impressive feat that Arden was able to spike the numbers to a staggering 650 horsepower and 580 pound-feet of torque. This is good enough to improve the SUV’s 0-to-60 mph time from 5.3 seconds to somewhere around 3.8 and before hitting a top speed of 161 mph.

No word yet on how much this program is going to cost, but with the promise of 650 horsepower to play around with, we’ve no doubt that it’s going to set customers back a few bucks.

The Range Rover Sport is one of those SUV s that doesn’t really need to a whole lot to grab attention. But if an aftermarket company is willing to give it some added shine, we doubt the SUV will have any complaints about it.

One of the best tuners for Range Rovers happens to be really good at things like this and at the 2013 Essen Motor Show, Startech presented a program that took a pretty long time to build. Then again, with programs of this quality, you can’t short change the time it takes to get it up in full swing.

Designed to further enhance the Range Rover Sport’s already appealing visage, the Startech program comes with a load of new features, the most prominent of which are new body components, including a new front bumper with larger air intakes and hooked up with LED daytime running lights. At the rear, a new diffuser was also installed, as well as a stainless-steel sports exhaust system, adding that throatier response that will be of good use with the performance kit added under the SUV’s hood.

Rounding out the exterior mods is a set of 22-inch alloy wheels and a suspension lowering module that can drop the SUV’s ride height by about 25 mm (0.98 inches).

Meanwhile, the interior’s been spruced up with some fine upholstery material, something the Range Rover Sport deserves. Be it premium leather or Alcantara, the material is nothing but top-of-the-line and complemented nicely by carbon-fiber and exotic-wood trim.

Finally, this program wouldn’t be complete without any performance mods and that’s exactly what Startech did. The tuner equipped the SUV with an SD30 S tuning kit, driving up the output of the Range Rover Sport to 323 horsepower and 501 pound-feet of torque, which is a nice jump from the stock 258 horsepower and 600 Nm (443 pound-feet) of torque from the stock 3.0-liter turbo-diesel engine. This power allows the vehicle to hit 62 mph in 6.9 seconds to go with a top speed of 138 mph.

Land Rover has done it again! This time with the Range Rover Sport, Land Rover has broken the land speed record for crossing one of the most inhospitable places on Earth. It’s no secret that despite their relative softening over the years, Land Rovers are still synonymous with land exploration. That’s what its cars are meant to do and what better place to explore the limits of the 2014 Range Rover Sport than to attack the desert of the Arabian Peninsula.

The Range Rover Sport completed the journey in record time, setting the fastest average speed of 50.87 mph in the process. The starting point for the record run was Wadi Adda Wasir in Saudi Arabia, and the challenge was to cross the "Empty Quarters" over to the border with the United Arab Emirates. The Land Rover team crossed the vast expanse of the desert in 10 hours and 22 minutes, covering a distance of 527 miles.

Moi Torrallardona, Dakar Rally veteran from Spain, was at the helm of the Range Rover Sport. With years of off-road experience under his belt, Torrallardona was the perfect man for the job.

“Desert driving requires a unique combination of speed, finesse and technical skill. It is crucial that you tackle the dunes with precision. Knowing the right time to go full throttle and the right time to slow down, takes experience and clear judgement,” said Torrallardona.

“This unique way of driving requires a vehicle which has the same skillset - it must be both incredibly fast but also agile, responsive and well planted. The Range Rover Sport is exactly that. It is massively capable and is truly the best tool for conquering the desert,” he added.

For the most part, the 2013 Range Rover Sport doesn’t really need too many updates, since it is already quite the looker and rather powerful straight off of the showroom floor. Also going against it is the fact that the 2014 model is all-new. Despite that, tuners seem to be flocking to this model in recent weeks

The Range Rover Sport received a new upgrade kit from the German tuner, CDC International GmbH. It focused most of its work on updating the exterior and the interior look of the car, but CDC also managed to squeeze a few extra horsepower from the 5.0-liter, V-8 supercharged engine.

To milk the extra power, CDC adjusted the supercharger system via a gear change and an updated control unit. As a result, the Range Rover Sport now delivers a total of 580 horsepower and 695 Nm (512 pound-feet) — up from the standard 510 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque.

The tuner also installed a new stainless-steel exhaust system equipped with a valve system that helps further improve the incredible sound delivered by the V-8 engine.

If you want to drive something a little bit more powerful than the current Range Rover Sport , Land Rover may have the solution for you: a new RS version that will be more powerful and more aggressive looking than the standard Range Rover Sport .

We expect the new Range Rover Sport RS to arrive by the end of 2013, but before it arrives, we believe that Land Rover will release the Evoque RS , which will give us a good idea of what to expect from the Range Rover Sport RS.

Rumors suggest that the new RS version will add a more aggressive look with a unique front bumper design, larger air intakes and a revised rear bumper. We also expect to see some contrasting black highlights on the the wheels, roof and the side-view mirrors

Under the hood, Land Rover will place the same supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 engine as in the current Range Rover Sport, but Land Rover will likely tweak it to between 540 and 550 horsepower.

The new-generation Range Rover Sport is one of our favorite SUVs launched this year. It has a great look, a great presence on the road and four engines to choose from. It looks like Lumma Design agreed with us, as, just a few weeks after the car made its world debut, the tuner came up with a first kit for it.

The kit is part of Lumma’s CLR RS upgrade lineup that also includes models like the M5 CLR 730 RS . The kit includes a new front spoiler, widened fenders and a new front grille. For the rear, the tuner also installed a huge apron that includes a rear diffuser, a new spoiler lip and a roof spoiler.

The new Range Rover Sport sits on a set of wheels sized 22 or 23 inches and painted in either black or polished anthracite. For the interior, the Lumma offers a combination of wood, leather and carbon fiber.

The new-generation Range Rover has been testing ever since 2011 and when the standard model arrived on the market, we knew the Sport version would be just one step behind. The standard Range Rover arrived last September at the 2012 Paris Auto Show, but Land Rover chose to swap continents for the Sport version, and introduce it at the 2013 New York Auto Show.

Just like the standard Range Rover, the Sport model will be all about the reduction of weight. For that, Land Rover has paid extra attention to the materials used to construct the vehicle. The most most important addition is an all-new, first-in-class aluminum architecture that helps save an amazing 420 kg (925 pounds).

The new Range Rover Sport will be put on sale in the third quarter of 2013. Customers will have the possibility to choose between four equipment levels: S, SE, HSE and Autobiography.

Land Rover unveiled the new-generation Range Rover Sport earlier this year at the 2013 New York Auto Show. Back then, everyone believed that this was all the new Range Rover lineup had to offer, but today a series of spy shots proved us wrong.

Our spy photographers have caught a very mysterious Range Rover Sport just outside the Nürburgring. Why do we think this is no ordinary Range Rover Sport? Well, the answer is quite simple: it wears a new front bumper with bigger air intakes. All these changes are a clear indication that under the hood there is something more powerful than the current 510-horsepower 5.0-liter V-8 supercharged engine.

What we cannot tell for sure is what name this new version will wear, but "Range Rover Sport R" sounds like the perfect choice for an even more powerful Range Rover Sport.

We will keep you post it with more details on this mysterious model as soon as we will find out more!

While everyone is waiting for the new generation Range Rover Sport to arrive, the British guys over at Overfinch have developed a very cool tuning package based on the current generation SUV. The package not only includes a vivacious exterior tuning package, but also increases the engine’s output to an amazing 575 HP - a 50 HP increase over the car’s standard 525 HP.

This power increase was achieved by an ECU remapping for the supercharged 5.0 V8 engine, a custom airbox, and a new exhaust system. As a result, the Range Rover Sport goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 5 seconds, while top speed goes up to 145 mph.

Adding to the pizzazz of the Range Rover Sport is a bright orange exterior paint finish with massive 22-inch Titan alloy wheels combined with new Brembo disk brakes. The tuner has also installed a new lowering module for a more menacing stance and a clean carbon fiber package for the interior.

You want power and good looks, it’ll cost you. The car and package combo for the Land Rover Range Rover Sport GTS-X by Overfinch will set customers back £147,500 (about $230,000 at the current exchange rates), which is almost double the price of the standard Ranger Rover Sport.
