Top Gear Season 17: Episode 2

top gear season 17 episode 2 picture

Last Sunday, the second episode of Top Gear’s 17th season aired and like most of the shows these days, we were treated to some hilarious segments, a rather pointedly pointless car review, some canned and scripted studio jokes, and - for once - a surprisingly fast lap on the Kia Cee’d. Par for the course for Top Gear.

In this episode, James May will tell you things about the Aston Martin Virage that you already probably know. This is then followed by a highly-entertaining hot hatch triple threat madness along the streets of Italy that included finding a dog, an ice cube, and branch from a cedar tree.

Comedian Russ Noble also stopped by for a little chat with Jeremy - an entertaining interview by our measure - after which the former strapped on his helmet for his hot lap on board the show’s Reasonably Priced Car.

The show concludes with a sort of dream of dreams, at least as far as Jeremy Clarkson was concerned: three laps around the Monaco Grand Prix. It probably didn’t matter that the cars they were driving were the same three hot hatches they drove in Italy. At the end of the day - Clarkson especially - had a blast to finally drive their way around Monaco’s world famous street circuit.

2011 Renault Megane and Clio "XV de France" Editions

In what is apparently becoming an annual celebration of their partnership with the French National Rugby Team, Renault has once again released a special edition line of their Clio and Megane vehicles, which they’ve been calling the "XV de France" Editions.

We already showed you what last year’s models looked like, so now we’re here to give you a peak of what to expect for the 2011 version of the these special edition Renault compact vehicles.

For this year, both limited edition models have become special ’versions’ of the Clio and the Megane, which you can avail off with out the limited time basis attached to its predecessors.

“The 2011 ‘XV de France’ versions are very different from the limited editions of previous years," said Raphaelle Jarry, the Renault Megane’s product manager.

For this particular version of the Megane and Clio, customers can avail of the former through a number of styles, including estate, hatch or coupe body form. As for the latter, customers have a choice of getting it as a 3-door, 5-door, or estate.

Is this the 2012 Renault Clio 4?

is this the 2012 renault clio 4 picture

Our friends over at Autosblog.fr received this image of what looks to be the new 2012 Renault Clio 4. This image comes despite the fact that there’s been no official confirmation from Renault on whether it’s true.

Supposing that this image is in fact that of the new Clio 4, the car is a fresh take from what we’ve seen of the supposedly new vehicle in the past. For one, this image of the Clio 4 comes with a number of new designs and features, including redesigned headlights, the presence of door handles – yeah, cars need those, by the way - a new set of wheels, and an overall more aggressive approach.

Like we said, Renault hasn’t come out with any official announcement on whether this is really the new Clio. But if this is the real deal, we wouldn’t be surprised to see it in the flesh really soon. And if we’re betting people, we’d put some chips down on this hatchback making some sort of appearance at the brand’s hometown auto event, the Paris Motor Show, which, in case you didn’t know, will open its doors at the end of September.

Until then, we’re definitely going to keep all of you updated when something more definite comes up.

Video: Truck driver cleared of wrongdoing after freak accident

It’s hard to forget a video like this, but we’re going to show it again anyway. We first posted this back in January when everybody who seemed to own a computer with internet access was watching it.

Remember that video that was posted where a truck driving along a motorway with a Renault Clio stuck in front of the cab? Well, John Tomlinson, the driver of the truck, was absolved of any wrongdoing stemming from the incident after North West traffic commissioner Beverley Bell remarked that instead of being punished, Mr. Tomlinson should be lauded for his cool-temperament during the whole episode.

"What you found when you pulled into the hard shoulder must have come as a complete shock and I think what you did, in reversing your tanker to release the Clio, was of huge credit to you," said Commissioned Bell.

Bell also told Tomlinson that he could retain his LGV driving license because, given the circumstances, there was no way for the truck driver to see, hear or smell the Clio that was in front of him.

As far as we’re concerned, we’re just glad that all the parties involved in this freak occurrence came out on the right side of the scale, proving once again that all’s well that ends well.

Renault to be first in Europe to offer front-passenger swivel seats for the Clio

Renault has been known for being one of the most innovative car brands when it comes to a vehicle’s interior function and the French car maker is continuing to uphold that distinction by coming out with a front passenger swivel seat for the Renault Clio.

As part of the brand’s Mobility for All campaign, the front passenger swivel seat is based on a relatively simple technology that involves a small lever located under the seat that allows it to turn up to 75 degrees to the right of the outward-facing side.

As the first car maker to offer this unique new technology in Europe, as Renault claims to be, the front passenger swivel seat will be available to all three-door and five-door variants of the Renault Clio Expression Clim and Dynamique Tom Tom that will be sold in other European countries like France, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Germany, and Switzerland for an additional cost of just 1,600 euros ($2,150).

Video: Truck driver doesn’t notice Renault Clio stuck in his bumper

This video is too unbelievable to put into words. Really. We could just tell you to go ahead and watch it so you can see for yourselves, but we’re going to try our best to come up with the right words to describe it.

First there’s a truck driving along a highway. Sounds normal enough, right? Unfortunately, that’s where the ‘normal-ness’ of this video ends.

See, while the driver was driving along on his way to God-knows-where, he is completely oblivious – we’re going to repeat that: COMPLETELY OBLIVIOUS – to the fact that there’s a Renault Clio that’s stuck on his bumper!

From the looks of how the brake lights of Clio keep flashing, it looks like there’s actually someone inside the car yet the driver doesn’t even notice it.

Unbelievable!

Start Your Engines: Renault Clio takes on Fighter Jet

When it comes to idiotically mismatched races, you can’t get any more one-sided than the race that you’re about to see in this promo video.

The Renault Clio is a pretty nice compact car and all, but, to be honest, it’s not really the type of car you’d want to be driving if you’re thinking of racing with other cars. The thought of a Clio going up against a Ferrari or a Lamborghini already has ‘massacre’ written all over it.

2010 Renault Clio S

The French automaker Renault has released a sport tuned version of their popular Clio hatchback called the Clio S as a reminder of the lines success in the early ’90s. The new car is more of an appearance package then a full tilt Renaultsport model, the Clio S has a few white accents to make the little Clio look like it’s ready to hit the track. Starting off with the lower lip insert in the front bumper the Clio S has a matching GT rear spoiler atop the hatch and rides on a set of bespoke 16 inch Polar alloys. The graphics package makes the S pop, offsetting the factory colors like Pearl Black, Capsicum Red and Extreme Blue with a pair of side stripes and an off center strip of vinyl on the roof that combines the checkered flag with the car’s Sport nameplate.

On the inside, the Clio gets matching checkers embossed in the seat backs and matching trim on the dash.
