Video: More Powerful Renault Megane RS Teased
Renault Sport has released a teaser video of a new Megane RS model that, according to the first details, will be the quickest Megane ever. The video was filmed at the Nurburgring race track where the car seems to handle itself well making its trip around the circuit. We doubt this more powerful model will try to smash any Nurburgring records, but at the very least we’ll get a spicier version of the Megane. Maybe even a special edition Megane RS Nurburgring Edition. The standard Megane Renault Sport is powered by a new-generation 2-liter 16-valve turbocharged petrol engine that delivers a total of 250hp at 5,500rpm and peak torque of 250 lb-ft from 3,000rpm. Expect the new model to be more powerful than this with a few added features. Now that the Geneva Motor Show has come and gone, we now head back to the real world with nothing but good memories from a highly successful event. The rush from Geneva was understandably high; so we kind of expected that the next couple of days would consist of a collective exhale from the entire auto industry before moving on back to work. Thankfully, French automaker Renault and tuning firm Superchips are keeping us on our toes with the release of a newly modified performance program for the RenaultSport Megane 250. Our love for sports hatchbacks notwithstanding, Superchips’ ECU remapping of the RenaultSport Megane 250’s engine is something that we definitely took notice of. The program, which will be available for any Megane 250 model sold from 2010 onwards, will give the car a performance boost of around 49 horsepower and 66 Nm of torque. As a result, the Megane 250’s R26-sourced 2.0-liter engine’s power output jumps from 250 horsepower and 304 Nm of torque to just a shade under 300 horsepower and 370 Nm of torque. Even more impressive is the fact that despite the performance boost, the Megane 250’s fuel efficiency numbers will remain at 33 mpg. So if you have a Megane 250 in your garage and you’re dying to get a jump on those ponies under its hood, the Superchips ECU upgrade program is available at 445 GBP and comes with a 12-month warranty. 2011 Renault Megane RS Police Car
Speeding in France is about to get a wee bit trickier to get away with now that the Gendarmerie are getting 70 Renault Megane RS police vehicles on the prowl. The new Megane RS police car will replace the current Subaru Impreza fleet and will come in the blue and yellow color scheme as other French police vehicle. The Gendarmerie have even opted for the “Chassis Cup” version, which is the model with the best handling at high speeds. The Megane RS is powered by a new-generation 2-liter 16-valve turbocharged petrol engine which boasts maximum power of 250hp at 5,500rpm and peak torque of 340Nm from 3,000rpm. The vehicle’s speed tops out at 155 mph, leaving the drivers with lead feet little opportunity to get away. Renault chose Durisotti, an approved Renault coach-builder, to fully transform their new fleet into true police vehicles with the special equipment necessary to catch speedsters. In what is apparently becoming an annual celebration of their partnership with the French National Rugby Team, Renault has once again released a special edition line of their Clio and Megane vehicles, which they’ve been calling the "XV de France" Editions. We already showed you what last year’s models looked like, so now we’re here to give you a peak of what to expect for the 2011 version of the these special edition Renault compact vehicles. For this year, both limited edition models have become special ’versions’ of the Clio and the Megane, which you can avail off with out the limited time basis attached to its predecessors. “The 2011 ‘XV de France’ versions are very different from the limited editions of previous years," said Raphaelle Jarry, the Renault Megane’s product manager. For this particular version of the Megane and Clio, customers can avail of the former through a number of styles, including estate, hatch or coupe body form. Renault has unveiled a new Monaco GP package at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. This package is available for the Megane Coupe and Megane RS models. The new models will be offered in a limited edition with only 14 countries scheduled to receive it. The Monaco GP edition can be ordered in elegance, sport, and style versions, priced from €27,300 ($37,742 at the current rates). The Monaco GP package was first offered in 2010 for the Laguna Coupe model and featured the same black and white color scheme as found on the new Megane Monaco GP. The pearlescent white paint was developed specially for these models. Other features include the Etoilé black body components (including the side mirrors, rear diffuser, and fog-lamp surrounds), black headlight masks, and "Monaco GP" badge work on the sides. The interior also gets a pearlescent white cabin, Monaco GP" stitching on the seats, a numbered plate, and "Monaco GP" protective mats. The Renault Megane is spawning yet another special edition, one that is sure to please upstart rally drivers all over the world. The new off-spring Megane, which is being called the RS N4, is a Group N tarmac rally package that is being released to cater to the needs of trainers and private rally aces alike. For this particular car, Renault outfitted it with a boost in the output of the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that it comes in. From the standard version’s 250 horsepower and 340 Nm of torque output, Renault gave the RS N4 a 20-horsepower boost to 270 ponies with 470 Nm of torque on it. In addition to the engine upgrade, the sports hatch also gets a “Cup” suspension upgrade courtesy of the partnership Renault established with suspension maven Ohlins from Sweden. Renault also installed bigger brake discs on the car in the form of 335mm discs and four-piston Brembo calipers on the front and 290mm versions over in the rear. Rounding out the RS N4’s performance package is a new interior that features a race-ready roll bar as well as Sabelt racing seats with a six-point harness. The Renault Megane RS is a car that’s on the cusp of being considered one of the best sports hatches in the world. Depending on some people’s preferences, the car might even be placed on the top of the proverbial heap. Aftermarket tuning firms have all taken stabs at modifying the Megane RS not only because it’s ripe to be tuned, but also because the sports hatch is one of the most popular Renault models in recent times. Having said that, the folks from Dutch tuning specialist, E-Motion, put their collective talents to good use by building a package for the Megane RS, one that sees improvements on the car across the board. The Dutch aftermarket tuning firm had some help from its compatriot, Kerkhof & Visscher, in building up the Megane RS’s engine, boosting up its power by 60 ponies and giving up much more bite than the standard variant. It’s a glorious time to be a fan of the Megane RenaultSport 250 Cup these days. Recently, the Renault hot hatch sports car was launched at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, paving the way for the entry of the hotly-anticipated sports hatch in a market segment that has grown with competitors in the recent years. Though it’s not as trendy a name as the Scirocco, Cooper, and Focus models of the world, the Megane RenaultSport 250 Cup’s strength doesn’t lie in its brand recall name but in the unbridled look and top-class performance standards that it always comes in. Okay, there’s also that matter about the car’s performance package, which according to TC Euro Cars, is chalk full of fully-functioning features that TC Euro Cars added to the already spicy performance package on the car. The three-door coupe already has a slew of reservations attached to it and if things fall according to plan and expectations, we might see more of this car in the coming future, maybe even sooner rather than later. The Renault Megane RS is already a pretty cool, but as we have seen time and time again, cool cars can always get cooler after an experienced tuning firm get their hands on it. The Megane RS, in particular, has competitors such as the Golf GTI and Focus RS, making it an ideal vehicle to tune up as a sportier model. Corniche Sports Wheels is the latest tuning firm making an attempt at creating a sportier Megane RS. The sporty and elegant five-star wheel attracts attention with its multi-part optics, based on suggested screw threads, and its cosmopolitan design language - and holds that attention for some time. The Megane RS is provided with 8.5 x 19 inch ET45 wheels on the front axle and 9.5 x 19 inch ET50 rims on the rear axle. Summer is here; bring out the convertibles! Not to lose out on the prime time for open air coupes, H&R has prepared a new tuning package for the new Renault Megane Coupe-Cabrio just in time for it’s arrival in sales rooms. To make the Cabrio shine, the tuner is offering a new spring set that lowers the car’s ride by 35-40 mm. The package also includes a set of H&R TRAK+ wheel spacers made of high tensile aluminum. This set is made available to all customers regardless of whether it is combined with OE or aftermarket wheels. The Renault Megane Coupe-Cabriolet made its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show. It will be offered with a choice of three petrol engines with outputs ranging from 110 HP to 140 HP and three diesel engines cranking out anywhere from 110 HP to 160 HP; all mated to either a six speed manual or a six speed EDC (Efficient Dual Clutch) automatic transmission.
