The Renault Megane RS is a car that’s on the cusp of being considered one of the best sports hatches in the world. Depending on some people’s preferences, the car might even be placed on the top of the proverbial heap.

Aftermarket tuning firms have all taken stabs at modifying the Megane RS not only because it’s ripe to be tuned, but also because the sports hatch is one of the most popular Renault->ke72 models in recent times. Having said that, the folks from Dutch tuning specialist, E-Motion, put their collective talents to good use by building a package for the Megane RS, one that sees improvements on the car across the board.

The Dutch aftermarket tuning firm had some help from its compatriot, Kerkhof & Visscher, in building up the Megane RS’s engine, boosting up its power by 60 ponies and giving up much more bite than the standard variant. At the end of the day, this is what all tuning firms aim to accomplish: to turn fast and powerful into faster and more powerful.

Exterior and Interior

Not a lot of changes were done on the exterior and the interior of the Megane RS with the exception of new Brembo brakes that were taken from the Megane Trophy and a new set of light alloy rims courtesy of OZ. There’s also word that E-Motions is hard at work at a lighter and faster version of this package that could end up being about 150kg lighter than the standard variant. Word is that these guys are planning on scrapping off the car’s rear seats entirely to reduce the weight by that much.

Performance

E-Motions had some help in raising the power output of the Megane RS’s powertrain from fellow Dutch tuning firm Kerkhof & Visshcer. Already powered by a 2.0-liter E-Motion engine, Kerkhof & Visscher upped the Megane RS’s power by adding a new intercooler and re-mapping the vehicle’s engine control unit (ECU). The result of this modification gave the sports hatch an increase in power from 250 horsepower to 310 horsepower.

Pricing

E-Motions’ whole package for the Renault Megane RS rounds up to a price tag of 1,000 Euro – or about $1,320 based on current exchange rates.

Competition

In the race for sports hatch supremacy, the Renault Megane RS faces a lot of formidable competition, not the least of which includes the Ford Focus RS->ke438 and the Volkswagen Golf R->ke164. With the new and improved 310 horsepower engine, E-Motions’ Megane RS is now on par with other tuned-up variants of all the aforementioned competitors. The Ford Focus RS by Mountune has the leg up with 350 horsepower while the Volkswagen Golf R by Abt Sportsline falls a little short – 310 horsepower – of E-Motions’ work on the Megane RS.
