Renault->ke72 has unveiled a new Monaco GP package at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. This package is available for the Megane->ke1227 Coupe and Megane RS models. The new models will be offered in a limited edition with only 14 countries scheduled to receive it. The Monaco GP edition can be ordered in elegance, sport, and style versions, priced from €27,300 ($37,742 at the current rates).

The Monaco GP package was first offered in 2010 for the Laguna Coupe model and featured the same black and white color scheme as found on the new Megane Monaco GP. The pearlescent white paint was developed specially for these models. Other features include the Etoilé black body components (including the side mirrors, rear diffuser, and fog-lamp surrounds), black headlight masks, and "Monaco GP" badge work on the sides. The interior also gets a pearlescent white cabin, Monaco GP" stitching on the seats, a numbered plate, and "Monaco GP" protective mats.

Exterior and Interior

The new Renault Megane Monaco GP comes painted in an exclusive pearlescent white color and features sleekly drawn headlights, a large air intake, a broad shoulder line, Etoilé black body components (including the side mirrors, rear diffuser and fog-lamp surrounds), black headlight masks and "Monaco GP" badge work on the sides. Other features include GT/GT line front and rear bumpers and, of course, 17-inch Celsium gloss black rims. The RS version gets leather upholstery with an electrically-controlled heated driver's seat enhanced with Monaco GP stitching and 19-inch diamond-effect STEEV rims.

For the interior, Renault is offering a pearlescent white cabin, Monaco GP" stitching on the seats, a numbered plate and "Monaco GP" protective mats. The list of standard equipment includes ESP, together with bi-xenon directional headlights and latest-generation dual-chamber airbags for the standard model, while the RS version gets an extra independent pivot arm on the front axle.

Engine

The new edition can be combined with five engine options for the Megane Coupe: dCi 110hp EDC, dCi 130hp, dCi 160hp, Tce 130hp, Tce 180hp, and a 2.0 16V turbo with 250 hp for the RS version. These engines will be combined with a six-speed EDC gearbox controlled automatically or manually.

In the Spring of 2011, Renault will also offer the Energy dCi 130 engine that consumes 4.5 liters/100km, equivalent to CO2 emissions of 117g/km.

Prices

The new Megane Monaco GP will make its world debut in March at the Geneva Motor Show and sales will begin shortly after. It will be offered in limited edition in just 14 countries. Prices will be announced at a later date.

The Competition

Renault Megane has many strong competitors on the European market, including models like the Ford Focus Coupe, the Volkswagen Golf, and the Audi A3. The Focus Coupe is equipped with a 2.0-liter, Duratec 20 dual-overhead-cam (DOHC), inline 4-cylinder engine that delivers 143 HP, while the VW Golf gets four gasoline versions with output 80 hp, 102 hp, 122 hp and 160 hp. Engines will be mated to either a 6-speed or 7-speed DSG transmission.
