How many of you remember the old Renault Scenic RX? For those of you who don’t remember, it was an attempt – a rather unsuccessful one — made by Renault back in 2000 to give the Renault Scenic an off-road look.

Renault has decided to apply the same treatment to the new-generation Scenic, but slightly toned down. When compared to the old RX version, which had a spare wheel mounted at the back of the car and offered a four-wheel-drive system, the new version will just have robust-looking bumpers, wider wheel arches and a slightly raised suspension.

Since the "Cross" look is getting more and more fans and more manufactures than ever are expanding their lineups with "Cross" or Allroad versions, Renault is also jumping on that train and its new model will most likely carry the same name.

Expect to see the new Renault Scenic "Cross" launched in March 2013 at the Geneva Motor Show.

Renault has just added a new Megane Limited Edition to its lineup for those customers who want to combine the practicality of a station wagon with sporty performance. The new model will be initially offered in France and will then move on to 11 other markets from Europe to Japan — sadly it won’t make it to the U.S.

The new Megane Estate GT 220 is powered by a Renault Sport 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that delivers a total of 220 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque. The engine is combined with a Stop/Start function that helps it deliver a respectable 32 mpg.

This model will ride on the same sport chassis as the Megane R.S. and will be offered with a sport-tuned suspension, performance brakes, and specifically calibrated electric power steering.

Customers will identify the Megane Estate GT 220 special edition by its gloss-black touches on the door mirrors, diffuser, front air scoops, and roof bars. If those extra gloss-black accents aren’t a dead giveaway, the "GT 220" badges sure will give it away. This model will be offered with an exclusive set of gloss-black 18-inch "Serdard" wheels. On the interior, it will add a specific steel gear lever knob and a numbered "GT 220" plate.

Over the years, we have seen the Renault ZOE make its way into various car shows as a concept car, but nothing ever really came of it. Here we are approaching the 2013 model year and finally, Renault is announcing that it is releasing its first production bespoke EV car in the form of the oft-teased ZOE . Sure, it’s no Ferrari or Lamborghini, or even a Tesla for that matter, but it is progress toward removing ourselves from exhaustible oil.

It is rather surprising to see electric vehicles taking their sweet time developing in European market, as those countries have been hit the hardest and longest with inflated gasoline prices. European buyers and automakers have been relying more on building high-efficiency diesel and gasoline engines, while us folks in the U.S. have focused more on the EV and hybrid routes.

The real question here is can the Renault ZOE make enough of an impact to pull buyers away from these ultra-economical petrol and diesel models? And can the ZOE help start the domino effect that the Prius did here all those years ago?

Renault just unveiled its all-new Clio Renaultsport 200 Turbo road-going car in Paris and we all knew it was in for big things. Well, now we know exactly what plans Renault had for it, as the French automaker has announced that a racing version, the Clio Renaultsport Cup will be offered for competition in time for the 2014 British Touring Car Championship.

The Clio Renaultsport Cup will feature an Oreca Magny-Cours-tuned 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-banger that pumps out a stout 220 horsepower and 270 Nm (199 pound-feet) of torque mated to a 6-speed sequential gearbox via an AP Racing clutch. The power is delivered to the wheels via a limited-slip differential. Buyers can opt for a paddle-shift interface, if they desire.

Bringing this high-performance Clio to a halt are 320 mm (12.6-inch) AP Racing front rotors, which are squeezed by quad-piston calipers. One-way ZF-Sachs adjustable dampers are on the corners with custom-built aluminum wishbones. Also on the corners are 17-inch Speedline Corse alloy rims, wrapped in performance rubber to keep the Clio glued to the track. Keeping up with the times, Renault will fit the Clio Cup with a data acquisition system integrated into a color TFT screen, so the driver can pull all of his race data immediately.

The body boasts a large rear spoiler that puts down about 40 kg (88.2 lbs) of down-force at 125 mph, helping keep the tires on the ground at high speeds. The press car is draped in white with checkered livery, but we figure you can snag up the Clio Renaultsport Cup in a variety of color schemes.

There’s no mention of pre-installed safety equipment, so we are left to assume that this is something that you need to install to fit whichever racing series you choose to run the Clio Renaultsport Cup in.

This awesome racer will be ready for delivery in the UK in September 2013, so we have a while to wait. You’ll need all of that extra time to save up the whopping €37,800 (about $49,286 at the current rates), plus VAT, attached to this hot hatchback.

The Renault Clio RS sees regular use as Nürburgring Taxis, and German tuner, Cam Shaft, felt it was time to release an upgrade kit inspired by these Nürburgring cabs. Now, when we say "inspired by," we use the term rather loosely, as this modification is rather extreme, especially the aesthetics.

The exterior is wrapped in a Graphite Metallic wrap, so the color matches that found on the `Ring taxis, but you get a smattering of lime green on the mirrors, one on the hood (which also boasts a skull decal), and one on the driver side rear quarter panel. The windshield features a rather ominous “Move Right>>” decal that is inverted so you can read it in your rearview mirror. You also get a set of powder-coated lime-green 17-inch rims wrapped in 215/45R17 Kumho rubber.

On the inside, you get a rear-seat and upholstery delete and a lime-green roll bar installed. You also get a set of Recaro racing seats with “Renault Sport” stitched into the headrests. Also added into the interior are several interesting “sticker-bomb” wraps around the center stack bezel, center vent bezel, armrests, and the door sail panels.

If the wrap, interior, and “International Motherf*cker Crew” decals are not extreme enough, what’s under the hood and under this hot hatch’s skin just may seal the deal. On the corners are H&R coilover units to help this hatchback handle the `Ring’s curves and a set of larger brakes borrowed from an Mk2 Renault Megane R26R. Under the hood is the 2.0-liter engine that any Renault Clio RS owner would recognize with a pair of changes, a reprogrammed ECU and a K&N sports air filter. These combine to boost the power output of the 2.0-liter 4-banger from 197 horsepower to 222 horsepower.

There’s no official pricing available on the tune just yet, but we’ll get you a price once Cam Shaft releases it.

Renault Alpine A110-50 Concept

Okay, so as we all know, the automotive rumormill has a habit of bouncing back and forth before finally resting on the truth. Back in August, we heard a rumor that the Alpine would be built in a joint venture between Renault -Nissan and Caterham . Then just days later, we started exploring the possibility of the Alpine and Infiniti Emerg-E being a Renault-Nissan and Lotus project, given the Emerg-E was already built on the Lotus Evora platform and it would be simpler to build both the Emerg-e and Alpine on the same platform.

Well, it looks as if the Lotus and Nissan talk is done with, as Caterham appears to have swooped in and all but completed a deal with Renault Nissan. Sky News is reporting that Caterham boss, Tony Fernandes, is just about to put ink to paper on a $400 million production deal that will join Caterham Caterham and Renault Renault -Nissan at the hip on the Alpine project. The deal would involve a 50-50 split in cost and profits between Renault-Nissan and Caterham.

There is no mention as to whether this will also affect the Emerg-E’s production plans, but chances are that the Emerg-E will remain a Lotus and Renault-Nissan project, since both companies are already so deeply entrenched in the deal.

This also effectively eliminates the chances that the Emerg-E and Renault Alpine will share any significant DNA. It is very doubtful if Lotus would be willing to lend its platform to Caterham for a project that it back-doored from the already struggling sports car builder.

We’ll keep a close eye on this situation because it could boil over into something a little more, as the two rivals compete to snag up a little extra business. The deal is expected to be reviewed on Monday and approved in just a few weeks.

Renault sent us for a loop at the 2012 Paris Auto Show by revealing not only the standard version of the new generation Clio , but its RS version as well. This isn’t exactly sports car material, but the RS does get a 200 HP 1.6 turbocharged engine (hence the name "200 Turbo"), which is a vast improvement over the standard model’s 120 HP capability.

When compared to a standard Clio , the RS version will be distinguished by the usual Renault sport elements, including a unique grille and spoiler, new front and rear bumpers, wide-set LED daytime running lights, sill extensions, and 17-inch wheels.

The completely new 1.6 turbocharged engine is coupled with the EDC dual clutch transmission and paddle gear changes. The engine will deliver a total of 200 HP and 177 lb-ft of torque at just 1,750 rpm. Peugeot will announce the engine’s performance numbers in early 2013 when the test drives are in session.

The new Renault Clio RS 200 Turbo will go on sale in 2013.

It looks like the new generation Renault Clio will get more than its fair share of body styles. Next to the standard version, the RS version, and the Gordini version spied by our photographers, it looks like the new Clio is also going to receive a station wagon variant.

The upcoming Clio Wagon has been caught testing somewhere in Eastern Europe, and despite its heavy camouflage, the model looks to be almost identical to the hatchback version, except of course, for its elongated trunk.

Under the hood, we will see the same engine line-up as in the hatchback: a base 90 HP 0.9-liter 3-cylinder engine, a 90 HP 1.5-liter dCi turbo diesel engine, and a 120 HP 1.2 liter four-cylinder engine. All engines will be mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Of course, the station wagon version won’t get an RS version, so customers looking for a sportier model will have to stick to the hatchback.

The new Renault Clio Wagon will make its official debut in early 2013.

Renault Clio RS 200 Turbo

The first spy shots of an almost completely naked Renault Clio RS just popped up yesterday, but the testing has resumed again today with a new testing model featuring a cool white exterior paint. As revealed yesterday, the future Clio RS will feature a more aggressive exterior look with bigger air intakes in the front bumper and bigger wheels and brakes. It will also have two big exhaust pipes, one on each side.

As for the engine lineup, rumors suggest that the upcoming Clio RS will be offered with turbocharged versions of the engines found in the standard Clio. This means we will get a choice of 1.2 and 1.4 turbocharged tCe four-cylinder engines with outputs taken up to an impressive 200 HP. A new 900 cc three cylinder engine will be added to the line-up, but power for this engine will undoubtedly be much lower.

Expect to see the new Renault Clio RS launched sometime in 2013.

Fresh from testing its upcoming Renault Clio RS , Renault took out its new Clio for a few testing rounds of its own. Our spy photographers are suggesting that this new model might be called "Gordini," and will be launched alongside the Clio RS sometime in 2013.

At first glance, this new prototype may look exactly like the Clio RS, but upon closer inspection, you will notice a sporty looking front bumper with big air intakes. This new bumper features a different design than in the RS, but will have similar characteristics. Also, while the RS features two big exhaust pipes - one on each side - the Clio Gordini will have a twin exhaust on the left side only.

The new Renault Clio Gordini will be placed under the upcoming Clio RS, meaning that it will deliver a little less power than the RS.
