Pros
Cons

Exterior

The exterior changes are similar to the entire Phantom line-up and they include a modern front face, featuring rectangular LED headlamp clusters, indicator strip and new front bumper design. In fact Rolls Royce becomes the first car manufacturer to offer full LED headlamps as standard. As a distinctive feature the Drophead version has received a new single piece grille surround, while color coded grille surround are offered as an option.

The entire range can be ordered with three new wheels, including painted, part-polished, and polished, with sizes going up to 21" - the largest fitted as standard to any production car.

Interior

For the interior the company has combined the finest wood, chrome, and leather. The control center display has been increased from 6.5 to 8.8 inches, while the satellite navigation system has been fully updated and now includes 3D map display and landscape topography, satellite view, guided tours, enhanced points of interest and composite route planning function.

The driver will receive better assistance thanks to a new camera system that features top view, automatic rear path prediction and split-front view.

Engine

Under the hood the engine remains identical: a 6.75 liter naturally aspirated V12 engine that delivers an impressive 453 HP at 5,350 rpm and 531 lb-ft at 3,500 rpm. This engine will sprint the car from 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds and up to a top speed of 149 mph.

As a new feature Rolls Royce is offering a new 8-speed auto ZF-gearbox that is electronically controlled to manage the extraordinary power delivered by the V12 power plant. The longer ratio in the new rear differential compensates shorter ratios in some gears of the new 8-speed gearbox, maintaining the same engine speed to augment ‘waftability’, while improving fuel economy. And the result was as expected: fuel economy was improved by 10% on the combined cycle and CO2 emissions fall from 385 to 347g/km.

Prices

Prices for the new Rolls Royce Phantom Series II will be announced closer to its market launch.

Competition

Just like with all the other Rolls Royce models, the main target for the Drophead version is of course a Bentley model. For it the Continental GTC - a model powered by a 6.0-liter, twin-turbocharged W12 engine that delivers a total of 575 HP and 516 lb/ft of torque. The Continental model however has the advantage of offering a top speed of 195 mph.
