When it comes to the upcoming McLaren P1 we have seen it all, but we do not know any concrete details about it. How’s that? On one hand, we may say we know how it looks because we have seen a concept version of it, but we all know that the production version may feature a slightly different design. Additionally, everyone is speculating about its engine, but McLaren hasn’t released any final specifications just yet.
So you see, you may think you know a lot about the upcoming P1 supercar , but in fact none of us know any real details on it.
Despite the missing details, everyone has to agree that the P1 will be an amazing supercar according to what we saw with the concept, what McLaren promised us and what people who have tested the prototype version have said.
With this is mind you shouldn’t be surprised to hear that McLaren has been flooded with orders for their upcoming supercar. In fact, they have received so many requests that they are now ready to close the order book.
A McLaren owner who placed a deposit for the P1 suggested that the company had already taken deposits for about 120 units and will close order book in mid-February. We can’t be too sure what this means exactly, since initial details suggested McLaren plans to develop a total of 500 units.
From the looks of it, this closing of the books is just for the initial stage of ordering, but we can’t stop thinking that McLaren may have chosen to reduce the number of P1s it will manufacture. We also have to take into account that the buyer who passed on this information may be full of hooey. We’ll see…

Now days, to grab lost market share, most brands have doubled their lineup by announcing less-expensive crossovers and entry-level hatchbacks that aim to introduce the brand to many more customers. BMW , for instance, has updated its entry-level 1-series and are on the verge of doubling its lineup with new models that carry lower price tags. Mercedes -Benz has also started planning quite a few low-cost Models to tackle the competition. And, if reports are to be believed, Cadillac will be boarding that bandwagon soon enough.
As of now, Cadillac doesn’t have any super-luxurious halo model that could rival the big sedans from the Germans. So, expect a new flagship Cadillac in the future that can be perceived as a "pinnacle of American luxury.” Also, a new crossover is in the works, after witnessing the segment grow in popularity among customers looking for practicality in a sexy and sleek package.
Also in the cards is, surprisingly, a Bimmer 1-series rival. After being used to the long and powerful sedans that Cadillac used to make, a small, hatchback bearing the Caddy badge is somewhat weird – almost revives nightmares of the Cimarron and Catera. But, given the fact that the Germans have already plotted such a move, Caddy may also create such a rival to meet increasing demand.
With Cadillac expanding its lineup, it’s clear that its strategy to grab some shares is pretty aggressive and would help strengthening the brand’s image. Stay tuned for more info.
Do you remember theChevrolet Code 130R Concept that was unveiled last year at the Detroit Auto Show? If you liked it, you’ll be happy to know that General Motors is considering a rear-wheel-drive sports car inspired by it.
The potential new model would target the new Toyota GT-86 sports car and its derivatives. Though it hasn’t been confirmed for production just yet, "it is on the wish list of the former Holden boss."
General Motors North America boss Mark Reuss confirmed in a recent interview that the car is on GM’s list and that indeed it will be "a great entry" for the company.
A production version of the 130R would be based on a shrunken version of Cadillac’s freshly-developed Alpha rear-wheel drive platform. Reuss did not provide any other details on this possible car, but did confirm they will try to keep it as cheap as possible.
A final decision on such a car will be made in the upcoming months, so stay to see if such a car will really happen!
After Porsche jumped on the bandwagon in making four-door supercars, many enthusiasts were expecting the Prancing Horse from Modena to join in too. But, unfortunately, Ferrari’s CEO and President Luca Di Montezemolo has confirmed to an Italian auto site that such a project is not underway.
Rumors of a four door, less expensive luxury car based on a Maserati Quattroporte and designed along the lines of the Ferrari FF have been circling for several months, with rivals confirming similar projects fueling them. But, as Montezemolo states, "A Ferrari can’t have more than two doors.”
The rumors also suggested that such a car would have a competitive price point, to which he responds "a cheap entry-level Ferrari simply wouldn’t be a Ferrari, period.” This is the reason why there is a brand called Maserati. They’re merely cheaper versions of Ferraris with their styling and badging. Luca goes on to argue that the price point of the Ferrari California is as low as they can go, which is mainly why 70 percent of California owners are new to the Ferrari brand.
To people who were hoping for this rumor was true, we’re sorry. We guess you’re stuck with two-door beauties for now.
Exterior The history of the Chevrolet Corvette shows that the company has been steady with their sports car like soft curves and sporty profile. Recently, a video was released (displayed above) that showed a rendering of the sports car’s future design, detailing a supercar with hard angles and a harder edge fastback. According to a report from AutoBlog.nl, rumors are circulating that Audi is working on a Sportback version of the A6 that will feature the same e-tron technology that the recently axed R8 e-tron featured, on a less massive scale, of course.
This hot hatchback is rumored to make its debut at the 2013 IAA in Frankfurt and will feature a 300-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-banger with 100 ponies worth of electric motor added to it. This would give the A6 e-tron a total of 400 horsepower, just 20 horsepower short of the mighty 2013 S6 … not too shabby.
For now, these are just rumors that we take with a healthy serving of salt, given the on-and-off R8 e-tron. Regardless, this sounds like one bad-ass concept to say the least.
With Maserati already juggling the development of many new models to increase its lineup, like the next gen Gran Turismo , Levante , Ghibli and a new flagship GT car, it has to be nearing the multitasking breaking point with this latest rumor. Said rumor is pointing toward the Trident-bearing brand developing a compact crossover to round out its lineup..
While the larger Levante is all set to compete against luxury SUVs like the Range Rover Sport , this smaller crossover has the Range Rover Evoque and Audi Q5 in its crosshairs. So, like its unannounced rival, the Porsche Macan, expect the design to be as wild and hot as the Evoque’s. With Pininfarina behind it, that’s not a tough task to undertake.
Like the Levante, which is based on the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the compact crossover will be based on a next-gen Jeep. The Jeep model in question will be the upcoming Liberty, which shares its platform – called the Compact U.S. Wide platform – with the Dodge Dart, Fiat Viaggio and the upcoming Alfa Romeo Giulia .
With Fiat’s aggressive lineup for Maserati, it looks like many more fans may be able to step foot into a Maserati of their own.

Everybody expected Lamborghini to announce the Gallardo successor during the 2012 Paris Motor Show, instead it unveiled a pretty bland update to the current Gallardo.
No need to fret, as Lamborghini has already confirmed that the 2013 Gallardo is, in fact, the final one that will roll out of Sant’Agata. This starts the rumormill spinning in reference to the next-generation entry-level Lambo.
The next-gen Lambo will sport a carbon-fiber monocoque that will sit on a platform that is it’s expected to share with at least Audi and maybe even Porsche. Rumor has it that the most of the development will be looked after by Audi, making the Gallardo replacement — rumored to be named the Cabrera — the first Lamborghini to be largely designed and developed outside Italy. While it’s cool that Lambo is working closely with its sister brands, this move might disappoint the Lamborghini purist, as Lamborghini supercars have always marched to their own beat.
With the carbon-fiber construction, we can naturally expect the price of the Gallardo successor to shoot up significantly. And the issue becomes that one of the Gallardo’s selling points is its price relative to its competition. With the Gallardo, people don’t have to keep half a million dollars in the bank to buy one. If you have a relatively high income – say $500,000, or so, per year – you could pull off putting one in their garage with creative financing. If this new monocoque – as cool as it may be – pushes the Gallardo successor’s price up too high, the 458 Italia may start looking more favorable to fence-riding buyers and maybe even Gallardo enthusiasts.
Now, if Lambo comes with something super-hot that smashes the 458 Italia and costs just a little more than its closest competitor, all is forgiven and purists won’t start storming the doors of Lamborghini and Audi wielding pitchforks. Unless you were living under a rock, you would know that nearly half of Aston Martin’s stake now belongs to former Ducati owner Investindustrial. Good to know that Aston Martin can still live to see the future.
But, like every acquisition, it does bring along changes, and Ducati’s past could influence one of them.
Ducati once collaborated with Mercedes AMG to create and market a special-edition Mercedes SLK55 AMG. It was said that Investindustrial saw more potential and a better future using AMG engines and transmission systems. Can we blame them? They’re in fact one of the best engine makers. If you don’t believe us, feel free to have a talk with the SLS AMG GT or the Pagani Huayra .
While the news may sadden some of the Aston Martin purists, remember that the engines powering current Astons aren’t really in-house developed. The 4.7-liter V-8 engine for example is basically a 4.2-liter V-8 from Jaguar that has been heavily re-tuned in Germany and slapped the Aston badge. The all mighty 6.0-liter V-12 under the Vanquish’s hood is actually a Ford Duratec engine. So, Aston Martin is no new customer when it comes to in-house development.
The changeover would make sense to us, as current Aston Martins continue to get more beautiful, its powertrain systems and electrical architecture seem to never really improve significantly.

Grand National, T-Type and GNX are three special editions offered by Buick for its second-generation Regal : the Grand National arrived in 1982, the T-Type in 1983 and the GNX in 1987. All three names were dropped once the third-generation Regal debuted. All of you gearheads already knew that, right?
We’re willing to bet that you didn’t know that rumors are floating around that Buick will resuscitate all three nameplates in the upcoming years. All three models will be offered as four-door sedans and will be built on GM’s new rear-wheel-drive Alpha platform, which will be shared with the Cadillac ATS .
Just like in the past, the Grand National and the T-Type will come with the same powertrains and suspension calibrations. The only distinctive feature being the exterior color, as the T-Type will be offered in a full color palette and the Grand National only in a black, staying true to the original. Inside Line reports that the Grand National and GNX will likely be powered by GM’s new twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V-6 engine with an output in the 350- to 400-horsepower range.
The GNX will be the most powerful version and will likely get a nice helping of LT1 V-8 muscle. We’re not too sure if GM will detune the new LT1 before installing it in the GNX, if it happens, but if not, this would put it at 450 horsepower. We wouldn’t be surprised to see it cranked down to 425 ponies – God forbid, GM step on its precious Corvette’s toes.
All three models are expected to come with six-speed manual transmissions standard with the option of a six-speed automatic.
Muscle car enthusiasts everywhere are now jumping with joy at this announcement, but keep your cool fellas, we don’t expect them to hit the Auto Show scene until sometime in 2014.
