While the redesigned BMW 2 Series and the performance-oriented M235i are freely roaming the streets as we speak, the range-topping M2 is still a long way from showing itself in production guise. Sure, we’ve seen the beefed-up coupe in several spy photos during the first half of 2014, but the two vehicles spotted on inner city streets and on the Nürburgring track were merely test mules wearing various M235i body parts.

Scheduled to break cover in 2015, it seems the M2 is finally starting to take shape, as our paparazzi have caught the coupe during a new test session on the ’Green Hell.’ It’s not the first time the M2 takes on the ’Ring’s twisty course, but this time around, the BMW looks closer to what we’ll be seeing in dealerships for the 2016 model year. The differences between the first mules and the new prototype are massive, especially in the bumper area, meaning this is our best look yet at the upcoming M2.

Well, it seems that the internet has been lit on fire by a set of renderings that have been posted to the Miata.net forums. While the rendering is rather attractive, what has set this apart from any other is the belief that it comes directly from a Mazda USA product engineer.

Now the rendering was posted by someone with the name “SethOfDeath” but the photo has a watermark that says Seth Elson. Jalopnik grabbed word of this and did some digging. According to a LinkedIn account, there is a Seth Elson who lives in Orange County California that is an engineer at Mazda North America. Jalops also found a twitter account named SethOfDeath that is based in Orange County and has a few references to Mazda as well. It hasn’t been confirmed that this is really from a Mazda employee, but all signs are pointing in that direction.

Jalopnik reached out to Mazda about these renders but only received, "another nice rendering. You fanatics."

Judging by the renders here and the photos and spy shots we have so far, this rendering does look very close to the right proportions and shape. My only concern is the that front end seems a bit to sculpted to match the spy car.

Whatever the case, we will know what the new ND Miata looks like in just a few hours when it is revealed live.

Launched in 1979 in its civilian version, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class remained largely unchanged to this day. Now an icon of the SUV market, the G-Wagon is also one of the very few vehicles to still carry its classic body and chassis configuration. The boxy Merc underwent several updates since 1990, but a beefed-up, AMG -badged version wouldn’t arrive until 2006.

That first version came powered by a supercharged, 5.5-liter V-8 and dubbed G55 AMG. The G-Class received a makeover for the 2012 model, when output was increased to 536 horsepower and the nameplate switched to G63 AMG. That same year, an even more extreme version was introduced - the G65 AMG. This SUV is powered by a 6.0-liter V-12 that generates 604 ponies and 738 pound-feet. Unfortunately, we couldn’t have it in the U.S. But that will change starting in 2016 as the Germans are planning on offering the G65 AMG on these shores as well.

At least that’s what Automotive News claims, quoting "company sources." The outlet also adds the G65 AMG will fetch more than $250,000, nearly double the base price of the G63 AMG, which retails from $135,700. Ouch!

Ok, this is getting ridiculous. A successor to the Lexus LFA has been a heated topic largely because everybody seems to have an opinion on whether Lexus is planning one or not. A few weeks ago, Lexus Executive Vice President Mark Templin told Automotive News that Toyota President Akio Toyota wants to build an LFA for this generation of vehicles.

But now, Yukihiko Yaguchi, the chief engineer of Lexus’ RC F program, told CarAdvice at the launch of the RC F in New York last week that there are no active plans to build a successor to the LFA.

So who do we believe now?

If we’re basing it on hierarchy, Templin’s statement might have more weight to it, and let’s be honest, we want to believe the guy because he’s the one who said that an LFA supercar successor is going to happen!

Is it possible that Yaguchi, whose statements were said via an interpreter, may have been misquoted? I personally don’t know and I’d like to believe that our colleagues at CarAdvice vetted that information before posting it.

Or maybe both guys are actually saying the same thing but with different timetables? Maybe Yaguchi is right by saying that Lexus has no immediate plans, and Templin is also correct that Lexus is planning on building one, just not right now?

Renowned Italian chassis manufacturer Dallara is working on a sports car for the road. That’s the word from CAR Magazine, who reports the company that has been building chassis for various motorsport series for more than three decades will sell its very own road-legal vehicle in 2017. The news was reportedly confirmed by Dallara Automobili founder Gian Paolo Dallara.

Details are still being held under wraps, but CAR says Dallara is aiming to build a lightweight sports car that will tip the scales at only 850kg (1,874 pounds). To achieve this, the Italians will use carbon-fiber to build most of the vehicle’s chassis and body. Naturally, the sports car will feature a no-nonsense interior deprived of most convenience amenities found in today’s road-going vehicles. Electronic driving aids will be missing as well.

Expected to take inspiration from the Alfa Romeo 4C , which Dallara helped to develop, the company’s first car will likely be motivated by a turbocharged, 2.0-liter engine sourced from the Fiat group. Output should sit at around 300 horsepower, resulting in a power-to-weight ratio of nearly 320 ponies per metric tonne, similar to that of a Caterham Superlight R300 or a 2013 Porsche 911 GT3 .

To be launched in 2017, Dallara’s sports car is yet unnamed and will only have a production run of 100 units per year, with pricing rumored to begin from €80,000 ($105,000 as of 09/02/2014).

The Mazda MX-5 Miata came to life in the late 1980s and made its debut at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show . Conceived as a small, lightweight roadster with minimal mechanical complexity, the Miata is often regarded as an evolution of classic British roadsters such as the Lotus Elan , the Triumph Spitfire or the MG MGB. Not surprising, it didn’t take long for the MX-5 to become the best-selling roadster in the world. The first-gen MX-5 was produced for no less than ten years, being replaced by a redesigned version in 1999. The second-gen model lasted for seven years before the current, NC-generation arrived. It’s been five years since the third-gen Miata debuted, and Mazda is about to launch a brand-new model on September 3rd. Just as the new roadster is getting ready to lose its veils, rumors about a coupe version of the Miata have started to emerge.

The idea is not exactly new, as customers have been demanding a coupe ever since the first-gen model became popular, but Mazda has yet to sacrifice the Miata’s long-standing heritage just to make a few buyers happy. That could change in less than two years, according to Auto News, who claims the Japanese have a fastback-like coupe in the pipeline.

When somebody brought up a statement like Ferrari using V-6 engines , they’d probably be met with either bewilderment, hysterical laughter, or maybe a combination of both. But times have changed in the auto industry and no more is that evident than a recent report indicating that Maranello is seriously contemplating a V-6-powered entry-level super car.

Sources told Car Magazine that Ferrari is currently developing a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine that will be used for future sports cars, specifically a more affordable version of the 458 Italia , considered as the incumbent “mainstream” super car. Details behind the planned engine are still being kept under wraps, but there’s reason to believe that somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque is achievable.

The rumored V-6 super car isn’t so much an admission from Ferrari that it wants to start catering to mass market consumers. Instead, it could be the next step in the company’s efforts to offer more sustainable products that can adhere to emissions regulations now and in the future.

A V-6-powered Ferrari that people can somewhat afford is definitely an interesting proposition if you think about it. Such a scenario would’ve been impossible in the past.

But times are definitely changing and we could be looking at the Prancing Horse beginning its evolution in front of our eyes.

BMW’s M5 is rumored to get a healthy boost in power while the rest of the 5-Series lineup gets some additional features both inside and out. That’s according to the German website Autobild, which reports the changes will come with the next generation of BMW’s full-size sedans .

Leading the headlines is a rumored 626-horsepower M5 that will feature all-wheel-drive. Not much is know on how BMW plans on producing that power, but it’s a possibility the automaker will still use the same twin-turbocharged, 4.4-liter V-8. Currently that engine produces 560 horsepower, so adding an extra 66 horsepower shouldn’t be an impossible task.

The next-gen 5 Series lineup is said to also roughly 100 pounds lighter, thanks to extensive use of aluminum in place of steel. Despite the added lightness, the Bimmer will feature more premium interior materials. The iDrive controller will be revised to use smaller turn/push knob and its voice recognition software will be easier to use. The car’s automated driving features are also set for an extensive update, making fully automated driving a closer reality.

A plug-in hybrid is also set for release. Its 109-horsepower electric motor will work in conjunction with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine, itself producing 240 horsepower. The hybrid is also rumored to have inductive charging abilities.

The remainder of the BMW 5 Series lineup will get power updates as well. The top version of the 3.0-liter I-6 will produce 354 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque; the diesel will produce 324 horsepower with a respectable 486 pound-feet of torque; and the M550xd will kick out 402 horses and 553 pound-feet of torque.

We can expect the new 5 Series to hit German roads for the 2016 model year.

As the redesigned, 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata is being prepared for its unveiling on September 3rd, the rumormill is brimming with unofficial information ranging from the massive design changes to the displacement of the SkyActive engine under the hood. More recently though, yet another rumor emerged, this time claiming the fourth-generation MX-5 Miata will spawn a coupe . That’s the word coming from Automotive News, who does not list a source, which is why we advise you take this report with a massive grain of salt.

The Miata coupe is supposedly scheduled to arrive "roughly a year" after the soft-top goes on sale. If this report proves to be accurate, the coupe will go on sale in mid-2016 following a late 2015 launch. The report goes on to say that the Miata coupe will be more than just a similarly shaped, hard-top MX-5. According to Auto News, Mazda is working on a unique, fastback-style body. My best guess is Mazda could adopt the same styling solution seen on the BMW Z4 Coupe . If the Japanese will indeed build such a thing, that is.

Bentley has been working on its upcoming SUV in increasingly public places, and this time, our spy photographers have captured the beast nearly void of heavy camouflage. Sure, the cladding this still there, but we certainly have a better idea of what to expect.

The Bentley SUV was caught in Southern Europe apparently hot-weather testing under fully loaded conditions. Check out how low the SUV sits sunken down. Perhaps Bentley engineers are testing its brakes and cooling capabilities on that twisty European road. Or maybe the SUV is tucking those large rims, thanks to an air suspension system designed to make the top-heavy truck perform like a Continental GT .

While Bentley has announced it’s bringing an SUV to market, its name has yet made its debut. Most speculation centers on the name “Falcon,” but other possibilities exist. We do know the Bentley SUV will share its platform with the Audi Q7 , the new Volkswagen Touareg , and the next-generation Porsche Cayenne . Also for sure is Bentley’s goal of a 200-plus mph SUV.

Getting such a vehicle up to 200 mph will require plenty of grunt, meaning either a twin-turbocharged V-8 or a massive W-12 engine. It’s likely both will be offered, with the V-8 being the standard mill and the W-12 the costlier engine upgrade.
