2011 Scion iQ "Pit Boss Cartel" by Cartel
 
Cartel has been a fixture in the auto scene for the better part of the last 15 years, so when you’re in the discussion of an aftermarket company that knows what it’s doing, they’re right up there at the top. That’s why it wasn’t all that surprising when Scion came looking for companies that can build a special edition iQ that would rock the SEMA Auto Show, they knew who to call. To give the iQ a distinctly Cartel-ian look, Cartel went ahead and chopped off the roof and sealed the doors. In their place, the company added a one-piece welded rocker and side panels, as well as a custom glass front window and custom metal fabrication on both the exterior and interior panels. Cartel also fitted the car with an AccuAir Suspension and E-Level air management package included SNAPON toolbox drawers and tools molded into the car’s rear bumper before dressing it up with 18" (front) and 19" (rear) Lorenzo WL028 wheels wrapped in Toyo Proxes 4 tires with Wilwood Dynapro brake calipers. Meanwhile, the interior of the iQ was given a massive overhaul, one that carries the style and influence of Cartel. The seats were treated to a black carbon fiber and Orion Grey finish, as were the door panels, which incidentally carry some blasting speakers. There’s also an iPad in the front dash, a tire rack and roll cage, an Autonet Mobile WiFi, a 12V and 110V power charging station, and Scosche wiring and Interface modules. The sound system comes courtesy of Alpine Electronics, which brought a full cavalcade of elements including two PDX 4-channel Power Density Digital Amplifies, a PDX Mno Power Density Digital Amplifier, two sets of Type-R 5.25" component two-way speakers, a Type-R 6.5" component two-way speakers, and a Type-R 10" Thin Subwoofer. The 2011 Scion iQ has just been luanched and already it has received its first customization program. The program comes from none other than Five Axis, who presented a couple of customizations for Scion at this year’s 2010 New York Auto Show. The Five Axis Scion iQ was parked right next to the standard iQ. The customized version is painted in a pearl bismuth silver accented with black chrome titled Titanium. The interior not only gets custom leather-trimmed seats and door inserts, but it also has Little John’s Interior Concepts and custom floor mats provided by Chilewich. At last year’s NY Auto Show, Scion brought the iQ concept, but this year they came packed with the production version. Known as the Toyota iQ on the European market, the Scion iQ is defined as the perfect car for the new trendsetting generation of urban drivers. The 2011 Scion iQ is powered by a 1.3-liter, four-cylinder engine that delivers a total of 90 hp. With a 78.7-inch wheelbase, the iQ offers enough interior room for four passengers. Despite being a very small car, the iQ is offered with a very long list of safety features including: Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), an anti-lock brake system (ABS) with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Traction Control (TRAC) and 10 SRS airbags. As you know Toyota will bring to the US market a small iQ 3+1 city car badged as a Scion. Sales will begin in 2011. The Scion iQ will be 118 inches in length. Sold as a Toyota iQ in Europe, the car needs minimal modifications, mostly to the bumpers, to meet U.S. standards. Under the hood the company will place a 1.0-liter I-3, a 99-hp 1.3-liter I-4 and a 1.4-liter diesel, but a 1.6-liters is also a possibility.

Europe and Japan will get the Toyota iQ, but in USA the small city car will be badged Scion. Unlike the other markets where the 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine is available, the IQ will only be available with the 1.3-liter four cylinder unit.  While the IQ is already sold in Japan and Europe as a Toyota, it’s getting its shot at the U.S. with the younger, hipper Scion brand. Unlike the other markets where the 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine is available, the IQ will only be available with the 1.3-liter four cylinder unit. This makes a respectable 93 hp — not bad for a three-seat (plus luggage) car that may return over 55 mpg. More details and pics in the press release after the jump.
