The second generation Scion tC made its world debut today at the 2010 New York Auto Show. It comes with an aggressive new look, new engine, and new technologies. The 2011 tC is built on a new platform and features a specially tuned MacPherson strut front-suspension and a double-wishbone rear-suspension. Under the hood there is a new 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine that delivers a total of 180 hp (19hp and 11lbs.-ft. or torque more than the previous model) coupled to either a six-speed manual transmission with improved shift-feel or a six-speed automatic with two additional gears and sequential shift. The exterior design gets protruding fender flares, a sleek front grille, and projector headlamps, while the modified cabin’s shape is inspired by the Scion FUSE concept unveiled back in 2006. Passengers can now relax comfortably in the elongated cabin with reclining rear seat that split 60/40. The new Scion tC also arrives with key safety features such as standard Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), traction control (TRAC), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), active front-headrests, and eight airbags. UPDATE 08/06/2010: Scion has announced prices for the 2011 Scion tC sports coupe. You can purchase the tC with a manual transmission for only $18,275 or with an automatic transmission for $19,275. Both also carry a $720 destination and handling charge. Press release after the jump. Press release Launched in 2004, the tC quickly became Scion’s top-selling vehicle, at the same time attracting the youngest buyer in the entire industry. Six years later, the second-generation tC emerges with an aggressive new look, increased driving performance, and a more premium feel. The tC features two all-new transmissions: the six-speed manual transmission has improved shift-feel and adds to the car’s already fun-to-drive character, and a new six-speed automatic gains two gears along with sequential-shift. The all-new design of the 2011 tC projects a bolder and more aggressive stance. Important design cues like the helmet-inspired cabin shape were adopted from the Calty-designed Scion FUSE concept, which was unveiled at the 2006 New York Auto Show. The protruding fender flares amplify its wider, lower stance and are aggressively complemented by a sleek front grille and projector headlamps. The shape of the rear taillights flow cleanly into the overall shape of the trunk. Overall, the cabin has been lengthened for a more comfortable passenger experience with increased versatility. Utility is enhanced with reclining rear seats that split 60/40, providing more storage capacity. The panoramic moonroof remains standard in the new tC. 20 comments: Scion tC I just simply love the interior of this Scion TC. It looks very classy and very comfortable, which I really love the most in a sedan car. Well, I must also say that it’s already looking so awesome on its aesthetic design.
Scion TC is still very striking for me, in spite of having only a simple design and detailing. Well, the sleek body paint that they use on it, is only gives the classy appearance for this one, and I am glad either that it had an impressive interior.
Scion TC is absolutely so attractive in its simplicity and I noticed that the body paint on this one, only adds more appeal on it and emphasized the beauty that it had. Anyway, I hope that the engine of it, is quite good enough for this kind of car.
It appears that the Nissan Juke has been vindicated... and the Scion has lost it brand direction faster than any other car yet marketed.
Do I need to keep listing options that are not only more attractive looking visually but offer more appealing features for the money?? Epic fail on scion here with a price segment this competitive you really have to set yourself apart from a big big big crowd. Toyota needs to either pull out of the segment with this crap or make some innovative products.
I think had this car came out in the mid 90’s it would have been received a lot better, the style is just dated . I can see Toyota try to make it more sport, in a strange way it looks a bit muscular but the roof line just gives it a 2004 Hyundai accent look and that car was not the best looker out there!
The top half is boxy, the bottom half is rounded... you can’t have both, it just looks awkward. I don’t know what they were thinking at all. All the comments seem to indicate that everyone hates it.
The Fuse concept was pretty ugly, but this just takes the whole thing to a new level of fail. It’s like they took the back end of that concept and slapped the old tC face on it. Kinda like if you took some baseball player dude’s body and slapped some average looking chick’s face on it.
