  A sedan car is a four-door vehicle, with a separate hood covering the engine in the front, and a separate trunk for luggage at the rear — the achetypical 3-box car. However, other variations of the body style exist as well, including two-door and hatchback/fastback models.

Introduced in 1966 as a two-door coupe and revised in 1968 and 1971, the Dodge Charger quickly made a name for itself as one of the most important muscle cars ever built. The Charger nameplate started to fade as the oil crisis hit the United States in the early 1970s and disappeared completely in 1977. A fifth-generation model resurrected the brand in 1982, but the Charger was axed for the second time in 1987. The iconic name was revived yet again in 2006, when the Charger became the vehicle we all know today: a four-door sedan. The sixth-generation model was built until 2010, when a brand-new, evolutionary iteration was unveiled. For the 2015 model year, the Charger received yet another overhaul, this time receiving brand new front and rear fascias and a revamped interior. As we’re moving toward 2015, the refreshed Charger had the outrageous Hellcat engine and its 707-horsepower glory dropped under its hood.

The amazing output figures that come with the supercharged HEMI V-8 place the Charger SRT Hellcat atop the four-door sedan segment in terms of horsepower and speed, while numerous exterior upgrades gives it proper, menacing looks. All told, the 2015 Charger SRT Hellcat plays in a league of its own. Read on to find out why.

Maserati’s masterplan to sell 75,000 vehicles per year by 2018 won’t include a model smaller than the Ghibli or a less powerful version of said sedan , Australian outlet Motoring reports, adding that the Italian brand aims to remain exclusive, albeit not exotic.

Speaking at the Ghibli launch in the Land Down Under, Maserati’s Australian general manager Glen Sealey said the Italians are ruling out a compact sedan to slot under the Ghibli, currently the company’s cheapest model ever. "In terms of model strategy, there are no plans to go below Ghibli or Levante," he said.

In an effort to increase global sales, Maserati revived the Ghibli nameplate to take on the BMW 5 Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class . Going lower would enable the brand to field a competitor for the BMW 3 Series and the Mercedes C-Class , and their high-performance derivatives, but, as things stand, Maserati is more concerned about retaining its exclusivity.

"Maserati will certainly remain exclusive, but not exotic. A year ago it was exotic," he added.

As far as a less powerful, and consequently cheaper, version of the Ghibli is concerned, Sealey stressed that the entry-level diesel model won’t account for a large proportion of sales, with the more expensive gasoline models to move more units globally.

This is arguably one of the coolest promo videos we’ve seen in quite some time. It’s for the Infiniti Q50 , or to be more specific, it’s transformation from the Q50 into the beastly Q50 Eau Rouge . Obviously, the full moon effect was used to highlight that fact akin to how werewolves rise whenever there’s a full moon. Oh, and guess what, a wolf even makes a cameo in the video !

Then there’s the Q50 Eau Rouge’s hesitancy to drive through a lighted tunnel, a fear that proved to be real when it turned back into the Q50 under the glare of all those tunnel lights. Once the sun starts to rise, the Q50 Eau Rogue makes hasty to return to its owner, but not before reverting back to Q50 form just as the owner/driver leaves the house to get into the car.

It’s a great ad that points out a lot of things about the Q50 Eau Rouge. My favorite, and something I just thought of now: the Q50 Eau Rouge is the automotive personification of a car that is actually a wolf hiding in sheep’s clothing.

That’s an appropriate use of an age-old figure of speech, right?

I’m not sure if Nissan is simply toying with us or if it’s subtly giving us a preview of things to come within its lineup. While I do know that the former is the case, I’m holding out hope that the latter will come to fruition down the road. In the meantime, do check out these renderings of two models that the Japanese automaker doesn’t have in its lineup…at the moment.

These models are actually concept renderings done as part of Nissan’s #NISMOmashup program. One model combines the Nissan GT-R Nismo with a Nissan Maxima sedan and the other features a combination of the Nissan 370Z Nismo and a Nissan Sentra sedan. You probably didn’t recognize them at first, did you? Don’t worry, I didn’t either.

Of course, Nissan doesn’t plan on building these two models anytime soon, even though their reception has been incredibly positive. The 370Z/Sentra mashup, in particular, looks incredible with its beefier and sportier dimensions. I’m not as big of a fan of the GT-R/Maxima mashup, as it kind of looks like the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo XI at first glance.

Hopefully, Nissan submits to public clamoring and builds these two models in concept form for an upcoming auto show — SEMA may be a good place to show them off. I’ve even thought of names on what the company can call them. How does the "370 SentraZ" sound? How about the "MaxiGT-R"?

Launched for the 2011 model year, the Chevrolet Volt is GM’s first volume plug-in hybrid vehicle. Also sold as the Holden Volt, Vauxhall Ampera and Opel Ampera around the world, the five-door compact has already won numerous awards, including the 2011 North American Car of the Year. The most advanced version of the Volt uses a 17 kWh battery that enables it to return a range of 38 miles in all-electric mode. The electric motor, which delivers 149 horses and 273 pound-feet of torque, is aided by a 1.4-liter, inline-four gasoline engine. The conventional unit sends 84 ponies and 67 pound-feet to the front wheels. Both "generators" use a multi-mode electric transaxle to propel the vehicle from 0 to 60 mph in 8.7 seconds and up to a top speed of 100 mph. Combined fuel economy sits at 62 mpge, while gasoline range is rate at 40 mpg highway and 35 mpg city. Come 2015, the current Volt is being replaced by a redesigned, second-generation vehicle.

Rumors about a second-gen Volt arriving for the 2016 model year have been floating around for more than a year now. GM has finally confirmed the new Volt is being readied for 2015 Detroit Auto Show debut. Currently the best selling plug-in vehicle in the U.S. market with more than 65,000 units delivered, the 2016 Volt has big shoes to fill. Details are slim as of August 2014, but GM has dropped a few hints about the upcoming Volt in the past. Read on to find out more.

The Lexus LS is the crown jewel of Lexus’ luxury car lineup. It also belongs in a segment that includes the Mercedes S-Class , the Audi A8 , and the BMW 7 Series . That’s the epitome of competition right there. So how does Lexus separate the LS 460 F Sport from this three-headed German monster? Create a special edition line with TUMI, the ultimate lifestyle and accessories manufacturer, of course.

The collaboration between the Japanese auto brand and the high-end lifestyle and accessories company is called The Crafted Line. The good news is that the Crafted Line is available across a wide range of Lexus models. The bad news, at least in the case of the LS 460 F Sport , is that it has the fewest allotment of available models at just 750 units.

The LS 460 F Sport might feel slighted that the ES and the RX 350 F Sport both received 1,500 units of the Crafted Line, but look at this way, the LS 460 F Sport is the one model that can still stand out even without the goodies that come with the Crafted Line. That comes with the territory of already being a high-end luxury sedan.

The flip side to that is its exclusivity. With just 750 units available, we expect the LS 460 F Sport Crafted Line Edition to have plenty of interested buyers as soon as the model is launched in November 2014. In the meantime, look for the entire Crafted Line collection to be featured prominently at the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance.

We cover a ton of fast cars and torque-rich trucks here at TopSpeed, but sometimes we’ve got to examine what we’re up against — or what the bank robber who’s stolen a BMW 3 Series as a get-away car is up against. Take a look at the new 2015 Dodge Charger Pursuit. The new police cruiser from Dodge gets all the updates the civilian Charger gets, but also comes with all the right stuff for nabbin’ perps.

Cops are very demanding of their cars; it’s their rolling office and has to be comfortable for an eight-hour shift, plus be ready for chasing suspects sideways down a back road or at 120 mph on the interstate. Dodge has brought the goods with the 2015 Charger Pursuit, retaining all the positive characteristics from the previous Charger, plus incorporating some new features that keep officers happy and Dodge competitive in the squad car category. Remember Ford and Chevy offer some stiff competition.

If there ever was any doubt that Lexus is serious about its venture into the world of luxury, its new Crafted Line puts those questions to bed. The Crafted Line is available on a handful of Lexus models, including the LS 460 F Sport , GS 350 F Sport , IS 250 F Sport, RX 350 AWD F Sport and ES 350 . That’s a lot of models to choose from.

The GS 350 F Sport’s status as Lexus’ high-performing, midsized luxury sedan makes it an ideal base for the Crafted Line treatment. Not that it needs any more splashes of luxury , it just doesn’t hurt to get more of it. Owners get their GS 350 F Sport dressed up in combination of Ultra White and Obsidian with a two-tone black and red interior. The color combinations are particularly vexing with the red interior highlights, creating a splash of life to the otherwise classy shades of white and black on the body.

Lexus’ collaboration with TUMI further emphasizes the level of style and luxury the Japanese automaker put into creating the Crafted Line. Every model, including the GS 350 F Sport will receive an exclusive TUMI luggage set. The participation of TUMI is a big deal in building cache among business people, some of whom are probably loyal consumers of the high-end lifestyle and accessories brand.

Look for the Lexus GS 350 F Sport’s Crafted Line version to become a hit when it debuts at the Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance before its scheduled launch in November 2014. Only 875 GS 350 F Sport models will fall under the Crafted Line collection, so expect it to sell out faster than most of its brethren.

After years, of patent leaks, spy shots, and endless rumors about its feasibility, the Cadillac LTS flagship sedan may finally become a reality. That’s the sentiment within the ranks at Cadillac after a high-level source told Autoblog that the RWD, flagship, luxury sedan is being developed in time to make its debut at the New York Auto Show in April 2015. That’s still a long ways away, so it should give Cadillac enough time to prepare its long-awaited answer to the likes of the Mercedes S-Class , the Audi A8 , and the BMW 7 Series .

Autoblog is also reporting certain design elements of the Elmiraj Coupe Concept we saw at the 2013 Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance will make their way to the LTS sedan. That’s a great way to establish a luxury identity for the LTS, because the Elmiraj is everything we hoped a Cadillac flagship sedan would be. While we don’t expect the LTS to be identical to the Elmiraj, we’re looking forward to seeing what Cadillac has in store for the model.

If anything, the company needs to be on its A game in developing the LTS. Last we checked, the S-Class, A8, and 7 Series were all heavyweights of the luxury sedan market. The 2015 S-Class, in particular, was a dramatic improvement from its own predecessor, re-validating Mercedes Mercedes ’ place in the pecking order of the segment. Cadillac will definitely have a lot of pressure on its hands, although the Caddy source did tell Autoblog that the company is prepared to embrace the challenge.

At this point, we’re holding our judgment on that one, at least not until we see the LTS in the flesh in April 2015. You still have time on your hands, Cadillac. You better make the most out of it if the LTS wants to live up to the hype.

Just because the Lexus ES falls below the segment classifications of the LS , GS , and IS models, that doesn’t mean it can’t get the same amount of attention from the Crafted Line collection as the others received. On the contrary, the ES received more "love" than any other model in the Lexus lineup outside of the RX 350 F Sport.

Even with its standing in the lineup, the ES received the same level of customization and attention-to-detail as its big brothers. That begins with the Ultra White color of the sedan , and is accented by a contrasting Obsidian splashes on various sections of the body.

Like the rest of the Crafted Line collection, the Lexus ES Crafted Line Edition will be on display at the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance before its launch in November 2014.

Don’t underestimate the selling power of the ES, especially when you’re looking at one of just 1,500 examples of the Crafted Line Edition. It’s still one of the cheapest models in the entire lineup line, so expect those who won’t be able to afford the GS 350 F Sport and the LS 460 F Sport to turn their attention to the ES 350 Crafted Line Edition.
