sedan

A sedan car is a four-door vehicle, with a separate hood covering the engine in the front, and a separate trunk for luggage at the rear — the achetypical 3-box car. However, other variations of the body style exist as well, including two-door and hatchback/fastback models.

The new Sonic RS sedan is offered with the same Ecotec 1.4 liter turbo engine found in the Sonic RS hatchback, which delivers a total of 138 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque. The engine is mated to a standard six-speed manual or an optional six-speed automatic.

When Nissan unveiled the new Juke Nismo , it also announced that it was simply the tip of the iceberg for the new Nismo family. We have already seen the GT-R Nismo that followed it, and now a new Sentra Nismo Concept. This concept is on display next to the GT-R Nismo at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show , and we have big hopes to see it put into production.

The concept features the usual Nismo elements, like the more powerful engine, the aerodynamic kit, tuned suspensions and a high performance braking system, red accents all over and, of course, a sporty interior.

The Sentra Nismo Concept rocks a Bright Pearl White exterior paint combined with a carbon fiber pattern on numerous exterior elements and the staple Nismo red line on the front spoiler lip, the side skirts, the rear spoiler and the exterior mirrors.

Dodge is preparing to celebrate its centenary with the unveiling of two special editions based on two of the most popular models in its lineup: the Challenger and Charger . The two models are offered exactly 100 years after John and Horace Dodge developed America’s first mass-produced, all-steel-bodied cars in 1914.

According to Tim Kuniskis, President and CEO: "The Dodge Charger and Challenger are the perfect foundation to celebrate 100 years of Dodge style and performance... They represent the Dodge brand’s heart and soul."

The 2014 Charger 100th Anniversary Edition will get interior and exterior updates, including a specially developed High Octane Red Pearl Coat and a three-spoke, flat-bottom, performance steering wheel with die-cast paddle shifters. It is based on either the SXT Plus or R/T Plus trims, giving customers a choice of either a V-6 or V-8 engine. The best part is that it costs only $2,200 over the base price of the SXT Plus and R/T Plus models.

Somewhere along the way, people have continuously slept on the Chevrolet SS as a performance-minded sedan that’s ready for its turn of the spotlight.

With aftermarket tuners like Callaway on its side, the SS is primed and ready to be the car we all thought it would be. Callaway knows what its doing when it comes to Chevrolet vehicles and the program it prepared for the SS just goes to show how far the performance sedan can go when treated with a nice dose of tender love.

The unquestioned highlight of Callaway’s program is the engine upgrade, which comes with an extensive list of new components, including an Eaton Roots-style TVS supercharger system, liquid-to-air intercooler, increased-flow-rate fuel injectors, a high-flow intake system, and a low-restriction exhaust system, all of which lets the car’s 6.2-liter, V-8 engine produce a staggering 570 horsepower and 535 pound-feet of torque — a nice increase from the stock 415 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of twist. This is good enough to allow the SS to cover 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds — down from teh stock 4.9 seconds — to go with a top speed of somewhere in the neighborhood of 180 mph.

A few other pertinent features highlight Callaway’s program for the SS, including the tuner’s badging on the car, embroidered seat mats, and key fobs, among others.

Gemballa’s troubles seem like distant memories now. It’s not really worth rehashing all the details of the company’s recent history; instead, we can celebrate how it has rebounded from it to produce some pretty impressive tuning programs.

It’s most recent project will be on display at this year’s Essen Motor Show and by all accounts, it’s going to be a pretty incredible project. The program, called the GTP 700, is for the upgraded Porsche Panamera Turbo and like the name indicates, it gives the German sedan quite a hefty performance boost, increasing the output from the already-impressive 520 horsepower to an incredible 700 horsepower.

With the Panamera carrying a 4.8-liter, V-8 twin-turbo engine, that spike in output is made more impressive by the fact that Gemballa was able to massage the modification to ensure that no stones were left unturned in giving the Panamera Turbo that jump in numbers.

No word yet on how the increased output translates to performance numbers, but considering that the standard Panamera Turbo already hits 60 mph in 3.9 seconds to go with a top speed of 189 mph, we won’t be surprised if the final numbers approach 3.5 seconds with a top speed of around 205 mph.

Maserati is that sales underdog you want to win. The Italian automaker has all the room to grow, with roughly 6,200 cars sold last year. So, the sky is the limit in terms of conquest buyers and Maserati plans to find many of them in the United States.

The Maserati lineup has grown to include the stunning Quattroporte luxury sedan, the upcoming Levante SUV and this beauty, the Ghibli. Aimed squarely at the Audi A6 , BMW 6 Series , and the Mercedes CLS-class , the Ghibli has a lot to prove. With the uniqueness and (current) exclusivity the Maserati name carries, we think plenty of the German driving motorheads will jump ship for something new and different.

We got our first chance to meet the Ghibli at the Miami International Auto Show , along with its big brother Quattroporte. It’s amazing to witness first hand the build quality and intricacies the Italian automaker puts into its vehicles.

The engine bay, for example, is coated with the same quality paint, clear coat, and wax the glowing exterior receives. It’s the minute attention to detail that makes the car even more special than its name and heritage bequeaths it.

The Ghibli comes to the U.S. in both standard and S trims. Powered by a Ferrari -engineered 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V-6 engine, the standard model makes 345 horsepower. The more athletic S version gets a 59 horsepower bump to total 404. Its sprint to 60 mph happens more quickly at around 4.5 seconds. Both versions are mated to a ZF eight-speed automatic powering all four wheels.

With a starting price around $65,000, we expect the Ghibli to catch the eye of some Audi, BMW and Mercedes drivers when it crosses the pond sometime in the near future.

Chrysler unveiled the 300S at the 2011 New York Auto Show and has updated it pretty much every year since. Of course, the changes were minimal and usually limited to some new colors or materials, but it was enough to keep the model fresh.

The "S" in its name may trick you into thinking this is some souped-up version of the 300, but don’t let it fool you, because all the 300S adds is a blacked-out grille and headlamps, and a black trimmed interior.

The same carries into the 2014 300S, which Chrysler updated with an even more blacked-out look and new a Ambassador Blue sport interior. There is also an exclusive Beats by Dr. Dre audio system that offers the best sound experience in the segment.

As usual, customers can choose between two engines — a Pentastar V-6 or HEMI V-8 — combined with either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive systems.

Aftermarket companies usually pay close attention to performance and aesthetic upgrades when they’re building new programs for vehicles. On the rare occasion though, a tuning company eschews all that in favor of security and one firm that has made a good business out of it is Transeco.

Known for its armored vehicles, Transeco is taking a stab at turning the 2014 Mercedes S-Class into a veritable luxury fortress on four wheels. The program, which has been dubbed the Transeco S500L, is catered towards VIPs who know that security is paramount to their businesses.

As such, Transeco is acquiescing to these needs, fitting the S-Class with a ballistic protection level of 7, enough to withstand everything from a .357 Magnum to an M16 pelleting it with 5.56-by-45 mm rounds.

Laminated glass windows, armored pillars, and underbody protection were also added to beef up the security of the German luxury car while high-performance brakes, a modified suspension setup and run-flat tires were installed to provide performance and handling improvements that ties in well with the security enhancements given to the S-Class.
