  A sedan car is a four-door vehicle, with a separate hood covering the engine in the front, and a separate trunk for luggage at the rear — the achetypical 3-box car. However, other variations of the body style exist as well, including two-door and hatchback/fastback models.

America has taken the Nurburgring track by storm this summer. Not only is Ford testing the upcoming Mustang SVT , but Cadillac too went to Germany to put the hotter, V-badged versions of the CTS and ATS through their paces. We’ve already seen the beefed-up sedans smoke their tires around Nordschleife, thanks to our skilled spy photographers, while video footage showed the ATS-V is fast enough for some rally-like jumping.

Thanks to TouriClips, who spends and awful lot of time on the "Green Hell" (and we’re thankful for that), we can now have a better look at the CTS-V too. Our previous spy shots indicated that the sedan felt quite cozy on the ’Ring, and the video comes to prove we weren’t just whistling dixie. The CTS-V looks planted and composed through the track’s corners, suggesting that the extra power stuffed under the hood comes with a great deal of chassis updates and precise handling.

Although the high-performance sedan is still hidden under swirly camouflage, the footage hints there’s a whining, supercharged engine between the front wheels. This can only mean the CTS-V will be launched with the same 6.2-liter, V-8 powerplant fitted in the 2015 Corvette Z06 . Previous reports suggested Cadillac could use a twin-turbo, 4.5-liter V-8, but that scenario seems less likely. Hit the play button and leave your thoughts in the comments section.

In the world of high-end luxury sports sedans, Porsche is a relatively new player. While Porsche debuted a sedan concept in the 1980s the brand never created a sedan. The Panamera itself debuted in 2009 and it has quickly started to amass sales in the segment. After a recent facelift, Porsche has decided that it want’s to push the Panamera into new and exciting classes by offering the new E-Hybrid.

Based on the technology that was developed during the creation of the 918 supercar, the Panamera S E-Hybrid is a plug-in hybrid that promises unsurpassed fuel economy and emissions, while still providing the luxury and performance suggested by the crest on the hood.

I recently took delivery of such a machine and spent a week beating on it to see if it could live up to the hype. From fuel sipping highway cruises and battery run-down tests, to a trip up one of the most grueling road in the U.S.

What I learned was a bit more than surprising, but you’ll have to read on to figure out what I really think

It seems having a powerful, V-8 engine under the hood and impressive performance credentials aren’t always enough for a sports sedan to survive. Sales are equally important, and at least one such vehicle has failed to make an impact and is now facing the axe. We’re talking about the Lexus IS-F , which will no longer be supplied to the company’s dealerships, Telegraaf reports.

So what’s wrong with a high-performance sedan that comes with a 5.0-liter, V-8 engine rated at 416 horsepower and 371 pound-feet of torque? Well, let’s say that the 11,000 units sold since its introduction in 2007 weren’t good enough for company executives. Then there’s also the fact that the IS-F gained very few updates for 2014, while the regular IS got a complete makeover. Tough competition from BMW , Mercedes-Benz and Cadillac didn’t help either.

Considering the aforementioned facts, Lexus’ decision to discontinue the IS-F is not at all surprising. However, we can’t help but notice that this sporty sedan has yet to receive the love it deserves in its seven years on the market. Will Lexus bring forth a brand-new IS-F? It’s a bit too early to speculate on that, but the RC-F is coming to carry the performance label further, albeit in a coupe body style.

U.S. Highway 129, cutting through the foothills of the Appalachian mountains, is a ribbon of tarmac that spans the gap from Tennesee to North Carolina. The section of the road that cuts through Deal’s Gap is known as the Tail of the Dragon, and it is regarded as one of the best driving roads in the world. With 318 turns in a span of only 11 miles, it is easy to see the appeal. Still, with so many sharp hairpin turns and sheer drop-offs on one side, the Dragon is not to be trifled with. Since 1995, nearly 40 people have lost their lives on this tiny strip of asphalt.

Despite being only an hour from my house, I have never tackled the Tail of the Dragon. Sitting in my driveway is one of the latest and most advanced toys from the house of Porsche, a 2014 Panamera S e-Hybrid . What better vehicle to tame the Dragon with than a plug-in hybrid that is over 16-feet long and costs more than my house? Best yet, I got news that a plug-in charging station had just been installed at the top of the mountain and nobody had used it yet.

I took it as a sign that I needed to be the first. I pointed the big Porsche south and went hunting for Dragons.

The ATS was launched in 2013 as Cadillac’s smallest sedan yet. Aimed at the BMW 3 Series , Audi A4 and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class , the ATS was the first vehicle to ride on GM’s Alpha platform, which would later underpin the larger, third-generation Cadillac CTS . Three engines have been offered since its introduction, including a 202-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-banger as the entry-level plant; a turbocharged, 2.0-liter with 272 ponies in the mid-range model; and a range-topping, 321-horse, naturally aspirated, 3.6-liter V-6. As we move into the 2015 model year, the ATS range expands to welcome a coupe and a long-wheelbase version of the sedan.

Dubbed ATS-L, the model is exclusive to China, a market that’s overwhelmed by long-wheelbase sedans. Not to be left out in a segment that already includes longer versions of the Mercedes Mercedes -Benz C-Class and the Audi A4, Cadillac Cadillac is joining in with a model set to satisfy China’s need for luxury and added legroom. How does it stack up against German competition? Read on to find out.

Kia and luxury once went together like bleach and ammonia, but as we creep into the 2015 model year, things are starting to change. It started with cars like the Optima and Sorento getting more luxurious digs, then came to a head with the introduction of the Cadenza . And now for 2015, Kia presents its K900, a luxurious sedan that shares a platform with its sister brand’s luxury rig, the Hyundai Equus.

Not only is the K900 the most luxurious car that I have ever seen from Kia, but it is also the most powerful, thanks to is 420-horsepower, Tau V-8 that is borrowed from Hyundai . As of July 2014, this Tau V-8 remains the standard engine in all K900s, but soon the 3.3-liter V-6 found in the Cadenza will make its way into the engine compartment.

In the Cadenza, the 3.3-liter engine produces 293 ponies, but I am willing to bet it will exceed 300 horses by the time it makes its way to the K900. And this tuning is likely why the V-6-powered K900 is not on dealer lots yet — a 293-horsepower V-6 is not suitable for a 4,600-pound lard yacht.

Fortunately, I got my crack at the K900 before the V-6 had a chance to ruin the fun, so I got to enjoy all 420 roaring ponies from this Korean masterpiece. But the real question is, can it actually hang with BMW and Mercedes this early into its life?

Swiss tuner Mansory has been in the aftermarket business long enough for it have established a reputation as one of the best to ever do it. It’s programs grace some of the best luxury and performance vehicles on the market that now includes the Porsche Panamera . Mansory’s program for the Panamera features an extensive list of modifications that bring out the best in the German saloon. We’ve seen many tuners work on the Panamera before, but there’s only a handful of them that can really claim to be on the level of Mansory.

For this program, Mansory worked on giving the Panamera a more refined appearance to complement its enormous engine upgrade. It’s actually nice to see the aftermarket company restrain itself from its usual over-the-top styling tendencies.

We can even make a case that the program’s combination of efficient aerodynamics and the massive engine upgrades make for an impressive kit that owners of the Panamera should consider when looking for an aftermarket modification for their beloved German luxury sports sedan . If I had a Porsche Panamera, Mansory would be near or at the top of my list. That’s how much respect I have for a company that has been doing its thing longer than some of us have been alive.

It seems development for the upcoming Cadillac ATS V is moving along nicely. The 3 Series fighter was just recently seen viciously attacking the Nürburgring’s corners and hills. Though this ATS mule is still wearing its swirly white camouflage wrap, it seems the car is pretty well sorted.

While Cadillac has yet to announce anything official, it’s very likely the twin-turbocharged, 3.6-liter V-6 will be the V’s motivating force. That’s the same powerplant currently found in the larger CTS Vsport. In that application, the boosted V-6 makes a respectable 420 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, however, it’s possible Cadillac will crank up the wick, reaching closer to 450 horses and 450 pound-feet. Remember, this will be the top-dog V trim, a direct rival with the BMW M3 .

The CTS Vsport’s eight-speed automatic transmission is also likely to make the jump to the ATS-V. A manual-shift mode with paddle shifters will keep the driving excitement, while the quad exhaust reminds the driver of the two turbochargers spooling under the hood.

The video includes some pretty great action sequences, including some rally-like airtime over the Nürburgring’s Flugplatz, or ‘flight place’ section, at the 47-second mark. An uninterrupted sound bite of the V-6 occurs just 10 seconds into the video, as the ATS ATS -V casually accelerates up a driveway at low rpms. Other instances throughout the short video demonstrate the V-6’s screaming abilities.

The Cadillac ATS-V is due out for the 2016 model year and will likely make its official debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show happening in November 2014. Expect to pay around $55,000 for the M3 fighter.

The Bentley Mulsanne ’s market launch in 2011 ushered in a new era for the British marque as a direct answer to the Rolls-Royce Ghost . The luxury limousine didn’t exactly set the world on fire when it was released, but a facelift to the 2015 model helped alleviate some of the Mulsanne’s design concerns. But a facelifted Mulsanne isn’t the only version in the works here. Turns out, a performance variant of the model is also in the pipeline.

Auto Express received word from Bentley insiders that the company is in the middle of preparing a high-performance Mulsanne that the automaker will likely name the Mulsanne Speed.

We don’t estimate the Mulsanne Speed to look drastically different from the limousine version. Maybe it’ll come with some tweaks here and there to make it a little lighter and give it a sportier look, but the overall design should be consistent with the facelifted 2015 Mulsanne .

That being said, the Mulsanne Speed is still being prepared as a performance model, so we expect some modifications done to the car’s chassis and suspension in order to improve its handling and driveability.

The Mulsanne’s 6.75-liter, twin-turbo V-8 will be used in the Mulsanne Speed; that much appears to be certain. The output, though, is being tipped to increase from 505 horsepower to 550 horsepower to give it a little more oomph to go with its sporty nature. The higher output will also translate to better performance numbers, including a 0 to 62 mph time under five seconds and a top speed of close to 200 mph.

Bentley CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer didn’t specifically say when the Mulsanne Speed is going to make its debut, opting only to say that it’s arriving at an auto show later this year. Well, Frankfurt is on hiatus this year so the biggest one in Europe that’s still on the calendar is the Paris Motor Show in October 2014.

The Lagonda name, previously used by Aston Martin for a hand-built, ultra-expensive sedan built between 1976 - 1990, returned under the spotlight about five years ago when the Brits introduced the Lagonda Concept .

Oddly enough, that concept had nothing to do with the four-door grand tourer, but rather a sporty SUV proclaimed to be a more luxurious alternative to the popular Porsche Cayenne . Rumors about a production version went back and forth with no relevant outcome, although the consensus was the vehicle might arrive in 2016.

But now we have to put the Lagonda SUV behind us, because it appears Aston Martin is actually planning to revive the iconic nameplate for a brand new sedan. Such a vehicle was spotted testing in the United Kingdom covered in camouflage. Our friends over at Autoblog think the Brits will slap a Lagonda badge on its trunk.

Details are scarce right now, but it’s safe to assume the four-door will be based on the Rapide S and ride on a stretched version of its wheelbase. Power is likely to come from the same 6.0-liter V-12 engine that delivers 558 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque. More details should become available later this year, so stay tuned to TopSpeed for all the updates.

Updated 07/25/2014: Aston Martin officially confirmed a bespoke product program for a new super sedan that will revive the Lagonda nameplate. The model will be put into production in 2015 and will be built in a strictly limited series, like the the One-77 hypercar and the V12 Zagato.
