A sedan car is a four-door vehicle, with a separate hood covering the engine in the front, and a separate trunk for luggage at the rear — the achetypical 3-box car. However, other variations of the body style exist as well, including two-door and hatchback/fastback models.

Mercedes-Benz is famous for inventing a lot of things, including the first series-production diesel passenger car, the first production vehicle with safety bodywork or ESP. More recently, the Germans made an impact for exploring new car niches with the launch of the CLS and CLA four-door, coupe-like sedans .

And it appears Mercedes is about to expand its ’tweener lineup even further with a C-Class -based, four-door coupe . At least that what company R&B boss Thomas Weber told Auto Express, adding that the Stuttgart crew is "intensively looking at remaining niches that will provide us with profitability and growth."

"There is room between the CLA and the CLS," he stressed, although without going into specifics, hinting that once the brand-new C-Class Coupe is out, a four-door version of it will follow. Of course, this is far from being an official statement, but it would make a lot of sense for Mercedes-Benz to come up with yet another sleek, aerodynamic sedan .

However, the new vehicle isn’t likely to show up before the 2016 model year, when the C-Class Coupe is rumored to hit dealerships.

My eyes were tired, and the sun was unnaturally bright for 7 a.m. on Tuesday, but the warm Texas weather gave me satisfaction as I opened the balcony door. In just a few short hours I would be throwing cars around a racetrack as I began my one-day crash course on tire testing and comparisons.

I’ve been on worse assignments.

The event was put together and hosted by Cooper Tire. The American tire company, one of the last still operating in the US, has just released the new CS5 line of premium touring tires. With more than 2-million testing miles, and built as a replacement for the company’s best-selling tire ever, the CS5 is quite an ambitious project. Oh, Cooper is also celebrating its 100th anniversary as well. Somehow, I have been invited along with a selection of my colleagues to put this new tire through its paces.

The day would consist of laps around both dry and wet circuits to test the tires abilities, and Cooper had brought along some competition for us to compare against as well. Our weapons of choice included the new BMW 328i and some V6-powered Ford Mustangs .

I would learn a lot about tires, myself, and the breaking point of a C7 Corvette’s rear differential.

If you want a smaller, affordable Jaguar sedan , your dream is one step closer to reality. Our spy photographers have just captured the upcoming 2016 Jaguar XE getting a workout around the "Green Hell."

The new shots don’t really give us any more information about the car, but they do give us a pretty strong indication that the car is nearing the end of its development cycle. Usually, by the time cars hit the Nurburgring , they are undergoing final suspension tuning.

Seeing the Jag on the ’Ring reiterates their desire to beat the Audi’s , Mercs and BMWs that currently dominate this segment.

That said, the XE is still wearing a surprisingly large amount of camouflage, and it makes me wonder if Jaguar might be hiding a little something we are not yet aware of. If you don’t like the camo look, we have a stunning exclusive render of what the new XE might look like after the break.

Whatever the case, expect the Jaguar XE to be unveiled late this year with an on-sale date sometime next spring as a 2016 model. Engines will include a collection of V-6 and V-8s mirroring Jag’s other offerings. Expect AWD to available as well.

There are few things in this country more American than a NASCAR race. Sure, apple pie and baseball might outrank it, but neither of those can compete with stock cars thundering around a track at 200 mph while continually riding on the brink of catastrophe as they race just inches away from a concrete wall and other drivers gunning to win. So when the opportunity arose to become deeply immersed in the culture during the recent All-Star race, I jumped at the chance.

It all started a few months ago with an email invite from Toyota. It read something along the lines of, “how about joining us at the NASCAR All-Star race and tours of the Joe Gibbs Racing Center and NASCAR Hall of Fame?” My reply went something like, “Heck yeah, I’ll be there!”

I decided to skip the crowded airports for a 2014 Lexus IS350 F Sport and a seven-hour drive through the heart of the eastern seaboard. I viewed this almost like a pilgrimage; setting out on a roadtrip for a destination of racing importance located in the rolling hills of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Once on the road, my choice of chariot was immediately affirmed. Unlike my last Lexus experience, the front seat was perfectly molded, padded, and bolstered. The more I drove, the more the car seemed to shrink around me, making tight maneuvering a thing of ease. The stout 3.5-liter V-6 offered plenty of grunt while the tight steering and sport-tuned suspension made each corner a memorable event.

It certainly goes without saying that there are few automakers in this world that can compete with Bentley’s status as a premier luxury brand . But being identified with luxury isn’t the only thing that Bentley is proud of; the company also has this goal of combining all that class and elegance with technology. So the company developed a new four-minute short film, titled "Intelligent Details," to specifically showcase how it has achieved blending luxury and technology in one package.

The short film is told through the words of Bentley Director of Design Luc Donckerwolke and Head of Exterior Design Sang Yup Lee. While riding the Mulsanne in the streets of New York, the two describe the company’s goal of offering
"performance that’s compatible with luxury", something Donckerwolke proudly claims no other auto brand in the world can claim.

The two also talk about a new goal for the company to turn the interior of its vehicles into its own living space that’s largely attributed to a renewed sense of empowering it with interior infotainment technology. This is where the short film comes circle in a really cool way. We’re not going to spoil you the ending of the video, but what Bentley used to develop, create, and edit this four-minute short film certainly may shock you, given its professional quality.

The E-Class has long been a staple in Mercedes ’ lineup, but even if its stature is firmly entrenched, the current model has struggled to keep up with more popular Mercedes models. It doesn’t help that the current E-Class has been described as undersized and worse, overpriced. But through its misgivings, Mercedes is promising to make amends with the next-generation E-Class coupe and cabriolet models, which appear to be getting that all-encompassing upgrade that the model has needed in quite some time.

Set to be launched in 2017, the new E-Class coupe and cabriolet models will be markedly different from the current model. According to CAR, the two sporty models of the E Class family will receive all-new hardware from its saloon big brother, while also getting a new technologically forward interior and a fresh lineup of straight-six engines.

With rivals like the Audi A6 and the BMW 5 Series feting their well-deserved time in the spotlight, it’s become increasingly important for Mercedes to catch up with a model that can compete with its rivals. For now, the E-Class remains a viable option, but not necessarily a top-of-the-line choice.

But once the new E-Class coupe and cabriolet models arrive in 2017, the expectation is that Mercedes will have a model that can finally stare down its rivals and not even flinch for a second.

The 2013 XTS made its first appearance at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show. The XTS bowed in with a 3.6-liter V-6 engine that pumped out 304 horsepower and 264 pound-feet of torque. This, combined with all-wheel drive in the XTS4, is enough to launch the sedan to 60 mph in 7.3 seconds.

Now, with just one model year under its belt, the XTS is set to receive its first major update: the addition of an all-new V-6 engine and a new Vsport trim level. If this V-6 powerplant seems familiar, it certainly should, as it is the same engine that will power the Vsport variant of the 2014 CTS .

Like the 2013 model year, the XTS will take on some familiar performance luxury sedans. The XTS’ key competitor, the 2014 E-Class, is revised for the new model year and features an all0new diesel engine. Also competing with the XTS is the 2014 Lincoln MKS , which carries over its full redesign from 2013 and packs a mean punch from its optional EcoBoost engine.

Updated 05/19/2014: Cadillac announced today a series of updates for the 2015 XTS which will be put on sale later this summer. The biggest update for the 2015 model year includes the addition of the OnStar with 4G LTE and standard built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, while few other changes were also made to both the exterior and the interior. The model continues to be offered in one well-equipped standard model and three optional Collections: Luxury, Premium and Platinum.

Oh, the things we see on eBay . The commerce site has and will always have some interesting items up for sale or auction. That was no more evident to us than when we happened upon a restored 1988 BMW M5 that actually looks pretty good given its age. According to the seller, this particular M5 has been restored to serve as a nice "daily driver," the kind that can take you from point A to point B in style and without any mechanical problems. Given that its essentially a 26-year old car, such ringing promises are good to hear.

More impressive in this case is the car’s reported forays in the drag strip back in its day. It can supposedly run a quarter-mile in 13 seconds, no small feat for any sports car by today’s standards.

But you’re not getting just any M5 either, as it was also given a series of upgrades. These upgrades include the installation of a new throwout bearing and new transmission output shaft and shifter seals. The best of the updates is a hot new engine that not only adds some extra firepower, but also had just 17,000 miles on it when the owner dropped it into the car.

The Chrysler brand has just announced it has received more than 10,000 orders for its brand-new, 2015 200 in the first day the ordering system for the sedan went online. The second day brought another 7,000+ requests from customers and dealers and, according to the company, orders keep pouring in.

Production of the redesigned vehicle had already commenced in mid-March at the company’s plant in Sterling Heights, Michigan, and full assembly capacity — much-needed given the 200’s pre-delivery success — is expected to be reached through mid-July.

This is great news for Chrysler, who has been struggling to survive with a lineup comprising only four models the past few years. That hasn’t changed and the offer will shrink even further once the old 200 Convertible gets the axe later this year, but the redesigned 200 might just be the pill that precedes the curing process Chrysler had to begin years ago.

There was a well-established manufacturer half a decade before Aston Martin known as Lagonda. With some early success, Lagonda became quite famous in its time till the consequences of World War II caused major struggle to the manufacturer. In 1947, Aston Martin took possession of Lagonda and reserved the name of limited number, ultra-luxurious sedans .

Aston Martin resurrected the hibernating Lagonda name in 1974 at London Motor Show by announcing the “Aston Martin Lagonda V8 ”, of which only seven units were made. The new model revived name received a humdrum response from the market and Aston Martin went back to drawing board with William Tomas. In 1976, Aston Martin lifted the curtains from a striking new concept model which surged the popularity of the Lagonda brand in quick succession. Its redesigned Lagonda received a wild response and orders piled in. With demands breaking through the roof and production rate limited to only one per week, Aston Martin rolled out the first production model in 1979 and three years later, the car finally got cleared for sale in USA.

To make the exceptional design possible Aston Martin’s engineer pushed the V-8 engine as far back as possible and even then more room was required to make the mechanism work. The engineers hatched a new intake system to compensate the space, which restricted the engine output. Tackling the issue, Aston Martin installed larger intake valves after mending the engine’s cylinder walls to meet the expected power delivery.

Aston Martin launched the Lagonda Series 3 in 1986 at New York Motor Show and the Series 4 was unveiled in all-new form in 1986.
