You know how difficult is to find a 1964 Shelby Daytona Coupe? There are only six original cars in the world. They rarer than a Bugatti Veyron and costs multiple times more — that is if you can even find a person willing to part with one. Their wins include Le Mans, Sebring, and Daytona, and it even set some land speed records along the way.
Shelby Distribution has announced that it will offer replicas of the celebrated GT. Just like the originals, the new Shelby Daytonas will be built around an aluminum body. But with time also comes improvement, and the coupe will utilize the updated suspension system that can be found in the MkII version of the Superformance Coupe.
Just like the Shelby Cobra, there are kits already available to build replica Dayton Coupes. But unlike most of them, this one is built by Carroll Shelby ’s Shelby Distribution. That means these Daytona Coupe will be official cars listed in the Shelby Registry.
With a combination of unmistakable style, raw performance and muscle-car spirit, the Cobra Venom is a car fit to compete with the world’s top marques. A spiritual successor to the 1960’s AC/Shelby Cobra, the Cobra Venom brings the power and charisma of the gorgeous classic into the 21st century.
Venom is powered by a supercharged Ford V8 block that offers performance figures of 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 214 mph.
The V8 engine delivers 524 hp and a peak torque of 420 lbs-ft. The engine is mated by a 6-speed manual transmission.
The MkII GT40 was built in celebration of Carroll Shelby’s 85TH birthday. The car is a near-exact replication of the original race car, featuring the original styling inside and out; the only difference is the use of electro-galvanized sheet steel in the construction.
The Shelby 85th Commemorative GT40 is built to accommodate only a Shelby branded engine. The top of the line engine includes the Shelby 427FE V8.
The car will be available in three different colors: Arcadian Blue with whites stripes, black with silver stripes and red with white stripes, and will be limited to a production of 85 units in each color.
Although the Shelby GT500KR is no ordinary car, Ford decided to update the car for 2008 with a new carbon fiber hood. The hood represents a premiere for the producion vehicles manufactured by Ford or Shelby . With the new hood the car looks mean but according to Ford :“It’s there purely for performance. It brings important aerodynamic and weight-reduction benefits that translate into enhanced performance for our new King of the Road”.
With the new hood the Shelby has almost 40 hp more comparing to the standard GT500. The carbon fiber hood also helps improving the aerodynamics of the car due to the fact that it creates two pressure regions by scooping fresh air into the intake and sucking hot air out of the back. In this way the engine’s temperature helps the intercooler work more efficiently and obtain better performances.
Shelby Distribution USA presented automotive legend Carroll Shelby with a custom Superformance Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe. This unique gift was made possible by Amy Boylan and the team at Shelby Automobiles in Las Vegas and Lance Stander and the employees at Shelby Distribution USA in Irvine, CA. “It was fantastic to have the opportunity to honor Carroll Shelby with this special car,” said Stander. “We hope he enjoys driving it as much as we enjoyed giving it to him.”
Painted in the same “Guardsman Blue” of the original cars, Carroll’s Daytona Coupe also features the number 98 that represents chassis #2300 that Shelby himself owned up until 1999. Power comes from a Roush 427SR V8 with 480 horsepower and 515 lb-ft torque. Unique to Carroll’s Daytona Coupe is a shifting system that utilizes paddles and buttons on the steering wheel.
Developed by MasterShift of San Diego, the Art Carr 2004R 4-speed automatic transmission can be up shifted via paddles and downshifted using two buttons on either side of the steering wheel. The system also has safety features including a one second delay from Drive to Neutral as well as a speed sensor to prevent the car from being shifted into reverse or park unless it is completely stopped. Installation of the engine, transmission and paddle shift system was handled by Exotic Auto Restoration of Costa Mesa.
No later than this weekend Long Beach, California will host the 34th Annual Toyota GP, a show during which we can assist the debut of 2 new electric vehicles. Although the idea of an electric Mustang or electric Shelby Cobra is not very well seen, HST International together with the design company Tjaarda developed a pair of new zero emissions models also named Tjaarda EVX Mustang and HST Shelby Cobra EVX.
Their electric motors use lithium iron phosphate battery packs which are developed by K2 Energy Solution. With 1,355NM of torque at zero and an output of 300hp, both cars can reach 60mph in less than four seconds and can be driven over 100 miles on a single charge. Charging the batteries takes about eight hours with 110 volt outlet and just over three hours with a 220 volt plug.
The cars have been tested and as a result the Tjaards EVX Mustang can reach 60mph in 3.9 seconds being capable of a top speed of 120mph while the HST Shelby Cobra EVX does a little better, reaching 60mph in just 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 150mphwith a range of 120 miles. Prices start from $80,000 for the Mustang and from $125,000 for the Cobra.
The liquidation of the Texan company, Unique Performance, brought nothing but trouble to Carroll Shelby, because he is now being sued by the former clients of the shady car customizer. Although his only involvement in the Unique Performance was to give the license for the use of the Shelby brand for some models the plaintiffs sustain that he is in fact guilty for their loss.
There are around 140 people with claims who paid for the desired car but never got to see it. More than sixty-one cars were seized the moment Unique Performance was raided in November 2007. Some of the former customers, actual plaintiffs, claim that they would have never bought the cars if it wasn’t for the Shelby’ s brand endorsement.
