Though Carroll Shelby’s foundation is raising lots of money, it doesn’t seem to be giving very much away.
Autoweek reports that Shelby’s foundation took in over half a million dollars in 2006, the most recent year for which tax returns are available. Yet it gave out grants of only about $25,000 in total, most of which went to only two charities.

Shelby Automobiles will use newly-developed Ford Racing GT500 performance packs to help transform a limited number of 2007 and 2008 Ford Shelby GT500’s into fire breathing “Super Snake” coupes. The Super Snake post-title package will include enhancements to the Ford Shelby GT500’s handling, styling and power; tuning options will range from a warranted 600 HP V8 to over 725 HP (unwarranted). Only a limited number of Super Snakes will be built per model year at the Shelby Automobiles facility in Las Vegas beginning in late 2007.

The Shelby Series 1 is one beast of an American automobile with 320 horses a top speed of 185mph and a note to sixty in 4.5 seconds. This special Shelby was also faster than the classic Shelby Cobra 427. To no suprise, one of the few produced was wrecked when the owner of the limited muslce car was speeding excessively and struck a curb. On September 7, 1965 CSX 3015 was shipped and invoiced to Ford Advanced Vehicles, England as a 427 Cobra Competition roadster together with CSX 3014 (another 427 Cobra Competition) and two R-model Shelby’s (5R107 and 5R209) for a European promotional tour. Sometime early to mid 1967, CSX 3015 was transformed into the Super Snake and reclassified as 427 Cobra Semi-Competition (S.C.).

The 1966 Shelby Cobra that once was the personal car of the racing veteran who developed the iconic sports car, has sold for $5.5 million at auction, a record for an American car. It was sold on Saturday at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction after a pair of bidders drove the price up.
The "Super Snake" is powered by a twin superchargers on a 427 cubic inch V8 engine that delivers 800 hp.
