Skoda added today a new model to its line-up: the Yeti SUV. The Yeti SUV is a 4.2 metre long, five-door vehicle that features an impressive front end with a ribbed grille and friendly looking headlamps.

The SUV is being offered with a choice of two petrol engines and three diesel are on offer: the entry entry unit (front wheel drive), a petrol engine with four cylinders and 1.2 litre capacity, delivers 103 hp, while the top of the line is a 2.0l TDI CR with 167 hp.

The Yeti is very well equipped for load lugging, too. The luggage compartment volume is flexible; up to 1760 litres is available by removing the rear seats. A luggage cover and net as well as lashing rings are available to further secure the load. As the Yeti is born of a brand which offers clever automobile concepts as its core competence, it is designed with a highly flexible luggage system.

Press release after the jump.

<![CDATA[Skoda SUV will be launched in 2009]]> http://www.topspeed.com/cars/car-news/skoda-suv-will-be-launched-in-2009-ar59167.html

Initial rumors said the future Skoda SUV will be launched in July at the London Motor Show, but Skoda denied those rumors: "Nonsense. This is the year of the Superb," said Skoda spokesman Jaroslav Cerny, referring to the automaker’s launch this summer of its new flagship car.

He also said the SUV will be launched next year, but would not specify a time.

The car will likely be called the Yeti, the name of both concept cars earlier shown by the Czech automaker. "I think we will stay with the name," Skoda head Reinhard Jung told Automotive News Europe in March.

The SUV will be built at Skoda’s Kvasiny site alongside the large Superb and the Roomster medium minivan. The two Kvasiny assembly lines have a total production capacity of 200,000 units.

Skoda will target central Europe with its Yeti and is expected to sell around 50,000 units annually.

<![CDATA[Volkswagen to launch new family of small SUVs]]> http://www.topspeed.com/cars/car-news/volkswagen-to-launch-new-family-of-small-suvs-ar51228.html

Volkswagen is ready to launch a new family of small SUVs. Inspired by the huge success of the joint Cayenne/Touareg/Q7 project, the company wants to take this success to a smaller level: a new family made by Audi Q1, Skoda Yeti and VW Polo SUV. Even if the most important one is the Q1, the first to arrive will be the Yeti in 2009, followed by the Audi Q1 a year later and the Polo SUV in 2011.

Production of Škoda’s fifth model line is due to start in 2009 and many new jobs will be created in the firm’s home country following this announcement.
