Smart Forfour went out of production in the middle of 2006. The decision came because of the low sales and the huge loses caused by the model.

But at the moment, Daimler is taking very seriously the possibility of the return of the Smart model. The reasons are very simple: the future emission regulation. In this case, Smart Forfour is considered the ideal candidate due of its low fuel consumption.

But the biggest news is that the new model will be sold with Mercedes logo and not as a Smart. Rainer Schmuckle said that an official decision has not been made yet.

Smart Forfour was built between 2004-2006 on a Mitsubishi platform.

Smart Forfour

Smart is working intensively on alternative drives and one of these is now going into series production. The smart forfour lpg (liquified petroleum gas) combines the petrol engines (47, 55, 70 or 80 kW) - which are themselves economical - with liquified petroleum gas drive. This does not only increase the vehicle’s cruising range, for example that of the 70 kW variant by 450 km to almost 1,300 km - above all it is kind to the environment and the wallet.
