The third-generation Smart ForTwo came to be in 2014, when the German firm unveiled a completely redesigned city car with underpinnings borrowed from the Renault Twingo. For 2017, Smart introduced a new version of the higher performance ForTwo developed by long-time Mercedes-Benz tuner Brabus. A couple of special-edition models followed and Smart is now launching the ForTwo Cabrio Brabus Edition #2 at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. Essentially a limited-edition model featuring an extensive line of equipment and appointments, the Edition #2 is arguably the most bespoke ForTwo Cabrio to date. Not only offered in unique color combinations inside and out, the Edition #2 is also packed with standard features, including no fewer than four distinct packages.

Set to go on sale in March 2017, the Cabrio Brabus Edition #2 will be showcased at the Geneva Motor Show alongside the ForFour Crosstown Edition. There's no word whether the Edition #2 will make it Stateside, but until we find out more, let's have a closer look at this fancy little city car.

What makes the Smart Fortwo Cabrio Brabus Edition #2 special

The Smart ForTwo is already a highly customizable car, and the Brabus package adds even more unique features. However, Brabus didn't stop there and created this limited-edition model with even more bespoke elements.

The first thing that sets it apart from the standard model is the red over silver exterior finish. While the body is painted silver, a color that's not exactly exciting, the red soft top adds a contrasting touch and a dash of elegance to the tiny city car. The look is rounded off by 16-inch Brabus Monoblock VIII alloy wheels in matt Anthracite with a high-sheen finish and "Brabus Edition #2" lettering on the side mirror triangles.

The car is also equipped with the LED & Sensor package as standard, which adds H4 halogen headlamps with welcome function, integral LED fiber-optic daytime running lights, LED taillights, fog lamps with cornering light, and rain and light sensors.

Inside, the Brabus Edition #2 comes with a bespoke red upholstery and many standard features. The Ruby Red leather seats feature honeycomb quilting in a different shade of red. The dashboard, door center panels, and leather sports steering wheel are finished in the same Ruby Red color as the leather for a strong contrast with the black panels and the gray trim. Smart also added velour floor mats with "Brabus" lettering and sports pedals in brushed stainless steel with rubber studs.

Styling aside, the Brabus Edition #2 is equipped with just about any option available as standard. First up is the Cool & Media package, which includes the Smart Media-System with seven-inch display, an AUX/USB/SD, voice control, Bluetooth interface with hands-free system, audio streaming for music transfer, MirrorLink, navigation, and automatic climate control. Then there's the Stowage Space package, which adds a lockable glove compartment, stowage net in front passenger footwell, and retaining strap for securing items on the front passenger seat.

The Comfort package is also offered, adding height-adjustable driver’s seat, height-adjustable steering column, backrest adjustment with one-touch function for driver and front passenger, and electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors. Finally, both seats are heated for enhanced comfort.

Motivation is provided by the turbocharged, 0.9-liter three-cylinder engine rated at 89 horsepower and 100 pound-feet of torque. Mated to a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the mill enables the ForTwo to hit 60 mph in around 10 seconds, while fuel consumption is rated at 4.2 l/100 km combined.

Although the drivetrain didn't change compared to the standard Brabus ForTwo, a sportier suspension that lowers the ride height by 10 mm (0.4 inches) was added.

Limited to only 100 units, the Brabus Edition #2 goes on sale starting March 7 with prices starting from €26,750 (around $28,240 as of March 2017). For reference, the Brabus ForTwo Cabrio it is based on retails from €23,080 (about $24,380).
