It’s been a few years since Spada released their Codatronca TS , but the now famous Italian car designer is back with an open top version of their supercar. The new model is called the Monza and will be making its grand debut at this year’s Top Marques Monaco.
The Spada Codatronca Monza will more than likely feature the same V8 engine found in its older brother, the Codatronca TS. The TS was going to be offered in three different variants; a TS "Sport Tourism" with 512 HP engine, a TSV "Fast Sport Tourism" with 513 HP, and a TSS "Sport Super Tourism" with 700 HP. The TSS "Sport Super Tourism" was even capable of a 211mph top speed, unfortunately, it never saw the light of production day. The only variant that successfully stomped across the production line was the tamer of the three - the TS - which brought in $425,000 per unit. It is rumored that the Monza version will feature a larger power output than that of the TS, with a probable 630 hp at 6500 rpm and 492 lbs-ft at 4800 rpm.
UPDATE 07/11/2011: We’ve finally unearthed the official engine spec of the Codatronca Monza, one that features a supercharged 7.0-liter V8 engine with 710 horsepower and 701 lb/ft of torque mated to a six-speed manual transmission, allowing the car to hit 0-62 mph in three seonds with a top speed of 208 mph. After unveiling the Codatronca Monza at the Top Marques Monaco, Spada has also released a new picture gallery of their latest 720 HP supercar. Enjoy!
UPDATE 11/14/2011: YouTube member, Marchettino, was lucky enough to capture the Spada Contronca as it makes it way around a track. The best part of the video is the soothing the engine sounds and the up close and personal shots of the sports car itself. Enjoy!
Spada Vetture Sport, an Italian supercar maker, recently released a new promotional video about its latest creation, the Codatronca. Directed by Mr. Kobayashi, the video takes advantage of the Codatronca’s unique similarity with Batman’s favorite ride, the Batmobile. While it does bear a little of the qualities of the Batmobile, the Codatronca is a powerful machine in its own right, thanks in large part to a Z06 engine underneath its hood that’s capable of clocking a 0-100mph time of 3.4 seconds.
Shot in 2D and 3D modeling, Kobayashi created the commercial by infusing the two visual elements and creating an environment that emphasizes the Codatronca’s cutting-edge look and incredible driving qualities.
After three months of tests and trials Spadaconcept - the Italian design studio founded by Paolo Spada (former designer at Smart and Honda) together with his father Ercole, (former chief designer at Zagato and BMW ), Domiziano Boschi (former Mc Kinsey) and Wojtek Sokolowski - has launched the production of its supercar, the Spada TS Codatronca. With this car Spadaconcept cherishes and revives the important heritage of Ercole Spada and the philosophy which characterized each of his creations. The company’s vision is centered on “functional design”, which, according to Ercole Spada, means to allow functionality of an object to express itself through its shape.
Following this vision Spadaconcept came up with a genuinely breaking product, something bold an daring. Far from creating a show car where anything is allowed, Spada concept has worked within strict feasibility constraints in order to reach the quality standards of a niche, handcrafted production, maximizing performance by introducing aerodynamic lines such to mould a light and essential body. The result is an extremely stable and manageable car, able to achieve good racing performances by exploiting at the best the power of its engine, with an original and nimble shape and essential but elegant interiors.

The first version, named TS (Turismo Sportivo), is a car with a naturally aspirated engine with more than 600 HP with race performances. Despite the focus at Spadaconcept wasn’t on “pure” power but rather on aerodynamics, lightness and handling, this car can still reach more than 340 km/h due to a short ratio gearbox and complies with the FIA GT1 regulations. Care for environmental issues has resulted in Spada VettureSport’s decision to add to the menu an ad-hoc “converter kit” which allows fueling the car with E85 green fuel, with a slight increase in torque and power.
